I would like to find a calendar app that will "popup" a month view with a stroke, and then allow me to return to my original app. It would be nice if the calendar was sizable, and has hi-res support. It should operate along the same lines as Benc's Popup utils. Any suggestions?

Muchy.com has some pop-up calendars here (http://www.muchy.com/catalog/ctcalendar.html). Not sure about hi-res or resizability though.

Appt Viewer DA. Using Slowlaunch, you can launch it with a hard button. First screen is todays appointments. Tap the "GoTo" shows the month view. There are other Month view calendar DAs, but I haven't found one that looks a good as this one.

na2rboy, some of the Muchy calendars look very good, but everything is in Mandarin. I can't make head-nor-tails about the various programs. Any English software packages that might fit the bill?
I'm thinking that maybe I could try a BigClock/McPhling combo, but I've had trouble with McPhling in the past.

Most of the apps on Mulchy.com include english versions. You can translate the site using Altavista's babelfish. It is Japanese not Mandarin. I use McPhling with no problems.

Here is a simple Calendar Month view DA. It isn't hires, but it may be just what you are looking for.

Thanks, that is the exact one that I had already downloaded from Muchy. I have not tried any DA's before. Is there a DA launcher that everyone here likes to use?

I like Hacker Dude-san's DA Launchers available at his website (http://simple-palm.com/). Once again, it is in a different language, but click palmwares on the left, and scroll down a bit to DA Launcher 4.0 and 5.0. I was a long time user of 4.0 and recently switched to 5.0.

As I previously said, I like Slowlaunch. It allows you to launch DAs with hardware buttons (as a second function of the button, it does not disable the original function). Most other DA launchers require a grafitti stroke to launch. Since I have a NR, my grafitti area is usually collapsed, which adds extra steps. Slowlaunch is great if you have six or fewer DAs you use. Very stable no problems in almost a year of use. Freeware, available at Palmgear. If you don't have a NR or NX, you might be happy with DALauncher v4 in files section on this site. McPhling and Easylaunch also launch DAs, as does ZLauncher if you use ZLauncher.

I hate to ask what will, no doubt, seem like an obvious question to many of you, but what are DAs?
Thanks!

ojleblanc, I've not used DA's before myself. Here is some text from the readme of DALauncher:
"What's Desk Accessory
On Palm OS( on which Pilot and Palm Pilot runs ) , only One Application can run at the same time. Pilot's launch time is very short and well designed application can keep it's status, so It's not so bad for user.
But Haven't you feel botherd when you must quit application to see Graffiti Help and resume it? It's same when you want to see today's date.
As for developper's side, I want to develop some application that handle's other application's data but ordinary application can't do that. So we must make it as a HACK. But HACK damages speed and stability even when it's not used only installed.
Desk accessory is a small applet for such utilities.Desk Accessory can run overt the Application. You don't have to quit applicatino to run Desk Accessory. When Desk Accessory quits, Application continues to run."

I downloaded this to try it out, but the readme file is not readable (Japanese, I suppose, and the notepad will not allow the symbols, just black blocks).
There are 3 .prc's included. Which is which? Is there an English version of the readme?
Also, did I read right that McPhling will launch DAs? So I do not need an additional DA launcher if I already use McPhling?
Thanks for all your help.

Isa43J, I cannot make any sense of the readme either. I believe that you have to the Japanese character set loaded on your PC, and then use Babelfish via copy/paste to translate. I don't have the Japanese set loaded, but I may try this out.
Yes, McPhling can launch DA's. From the readme:
"You can choose DAs (Desk Accessories) to be launched by McPhling. Note that a DA must be set as a favorite in order for it to show up in the application list. "

Thanks LanMan. Do you know which .prc to install for this DA? Do you know (apart from the readme) which .prc is what?

I also use McPhling to launch DA's, and it works fine. Since I have alot of other favorite apps I use McPhling for, I also recently installed DA Launcher and it also works well. Will have to give Slowlaunch a try. Finally, depending on your device, Muchy also has a couple of hacks (calchack and findhack, I believe) that allow you to launch DA's from the silkscreen buttons... they seem to be working OK so far.

Either calesche.prc file will work. One is a larger version (takes up more screen space). It is the one with the largest bit size also. Not sure what the other file is. I suspect it is to be able to launch the calendar as an app, with an icon of it's own.

Thanks, sebring. I assumed that the \large\calesche.prc was a large font version. However, I was wondering if the csda_conf.prc was some sort of configuration utility. I can't try them now as I am w/o a hotsync cradle.

I installed the csda_conf.prc and found that it's all in a font that my PDA doesn't support. The text ends up as a bunch of symbols (hearts, @ signs, etc). It has it's own icon and it looks like a configuration utility, but without being able to read it, it's hard to tell. I deleted it off my Clie.
I also tried both calendar sizes and I love the functionality. I chose the small one out of personal preference. You can mark dates (simply reversing the fore- and background colors of black and white). If you tap on "OPEN" and then tap a date, it opens DateBk5 (at least on mine) to the date that I tapped. Very cool. I really like it.
If anyone can translate the text in the csda_conf.prc utility, I'd be interested in knowing what it does. One of the options included a drop-down list that included all (it seemed) of my installed apps. If I know how to use it, I then don't need to know how to read it.

I checked the csda_conf.prc and it is an add on app that has it's own icon in your launcher, but it is in Japanese. The csdasche DA is self explanatory and text in it is english. After you try this one, I recommend you look at ApptViewer DA, it is a bit more polished.

I too wondered about a pop-up calendar but couldn't find anything. I did find two programs that were simple calendars. One was 6 Month view which I found at http://www.freewarepalm.com/. This is a good site for free, or more correctly, nearly free software (some of it is trialware, which IMHO is not freeware). This program doesn't look so good on the Clie but, hey, the price is right.
The other program I came across was called Calendar (version 1.7). You can download it from www.silcom.com/~njhua/cal. I had one suggestion (allowing you to chose which application started when you tapped on a date) and believe it or not, the author asked why I just didn't use Agendus' quarter view. In other words, she tried to talk herself out of a sale. Calendar really applies to the KISS principle. It does one thing and does it quite well.

According to what Isa43J says, I believe that calesche will suit my needs. I simply need to get a quick popup single-month view when doing some date calculations in apps other than my datebook (DateBk5). It looks like calesche more than fits the bill for me. Now I need to get a DALauncher working on my system.

Has anyone been able to get an english translation of the readme file for calesche?

When I tap one, it takes me to the datebook page for that day.
