Hello and a big thank You! All of the follwoing does work, work better than expected!

(Just one thing: when posting the first time a few days ago, I did use the older 0.7.1 version because I didn't get the "newest" ARM version to run. Again, my fault, that's because I didn't select the proper media (MMC card instead of HDD on my LifeDrive) So I do not know if these bugs I experienced have been fixed before. Sorry for this chaos :-/ )

A) The auto power off now is ok. Palm shuts down automatically after exiting the game. Independent of the ScummVM-launcher setting. (This hint text You added now displays the "old" shutdown time on launching and exiting the game. I think therefor, it has done its purpose.)

B) This new version of ScummVM lets me use the wide screen, with fast switching from normal to wide and back.

C) The buttons on my LifeDrive work.

Button 1 (Home) switches from normal to wide and back.
Button 2 (Media) works similar to an "ESC" (it interrupts running dialogues and such)
Button 3 (Favourite) opens the menu with save/load and quitting and such stuff)
Button 4 (File Browser) is like a left mouse click on the screen at cursor position
Button Up/down/left/right (the 4 way navigational buttons) control the (virtual) mouse curser position
Button middle (the 4 way navigational buttons' middle button) does nothing except a "tick" sound.

D) The sound works. It doesn't only work stuttering, but very fast and therefor enjoyable!

What else do You expect from life... aehm, sorry, from a game? A biiiiig thank You to chrilith, who made this possible!

I have just noticed that Left/Right/Select (or Up/Down/Select in wide mode) does't work on T3 :(

And I think that button 4 (Note Pad on T3) is right mouse click. Select should be left one.

I'm still having trouble with the CD audio games (Zak FM Towns, Indy 3 FM Towns, LOOM FM Towns, LOOM CD and Monkey Island 1 Multilingual CD) on my T3. I haven't mentioned the LOOMs and Monkey Island 1 because I just ripped their tracks for starting this build.

They all Fatal Exception Reset while the initial track is playing or occasionally soft reset my T3 when the intro first starts. Has anyone else had problems with these titles on this build?

Indiana Jones 4 talkie works perfectly on my T3.

There is a new version :)

BASS works great :) No memory leaks like in non-ARM version.

But there is still problem with T3 5-way contoller (BASS & Scumm). Up and down (right and left in wide) works ok , but left, right and select doesn't.

If I start BASS in normal mode everything (except 5-way) is ok even after switching to wide. But if I start in wide mode up&down works in wrong direction (up&down when it should be right&left and oppositely after switching mode) and if I switch to portrait accessing menu locks my T3 (no responses, music is still playing).

forcemaker : ok about autooff problem, in fact it wasn't fixed in v0.7.1, happy to sse that it works now :)

TK-421 : can you try the lastest version I forgot to mention (thx to notoko ;) ? this version is very stable with sound (using mutex)

nokoto : I'll try to check this 5way problem, about BASS, many memory leaks have been fixed I lastest version

I've got 320x320 screen. Ive asked before, but is 'fullscreen' option supposed to fill my display? In other words stretch it out vertically. If so, it doesn't work on Zire72. The playable screen area is a little small on regular 320x320 displays. I'm kind of hoping screen filling is or will be possible.

ScummVM Native GUI

Zak FM Towns - fatal alert object.cpp, line:1119, Assertion failed: ptr in native gui on the Zak title screen

Monkey Island 1 multilingual cd (english) - has loud clicks in intro music. It then lockups on Part one screen then I get a Fatal exception reset

Indy3 FM Towns - hangs on caboose on the intro then a fatal exception reset when I try to skip the intro and go to Barnett College or select the quit or load from the Menu screen

Loom CD and Loom FM Towns give fatal exception resets during the Title screens


PalmOS Skin (64K cache, platform specified, audio enabled FM Towns or IBM PC Jr with high with 44kHz)

Zak FM Towns - fatal exception reset during The Zak title screen

Monkey Island 1 multilingual CD (english) - Locks ups fades to white on PalmOS launch screen (the one that says the game and heap size) or fatal exception on lucasfilm splash

Indy 3 FM Towns - soft resets during lucasfilm splash

Loom CD - fatal exception reset on skill level screen

Loom FM Towns - fatal exception reset on the Lucasfilm spash screen

DOTT, Sam & Max (both floppy DOS versions with uncompressed Monster SOUs) and Indy 4 (DOS CD Talkie with uncompressed Monster SOU) work fine in Native GUI and PalmOS skin.

A Palm Tungsten T3. I would have agree with you on that assessment. How difficult would it be ARMify the old Pocket Tunes code? I would pay you for your trouble. Thanks again.

There is a new version :)

It has basic support for The Legend of Kyrandia.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me, but I have only Kyrandia demo (from ScummVM official site). All I get is "couldn't open Kyrandia resource file ('KYRA.DAT') make sure you got one file for your version" error message.

Hi, I just tried it on my palm TX, Scumm engine is still working fine (tested Monkey Island 2) and Beneath a steel sky starts and is playable with voices so it's cool (but I didn't tested them for a long time)
I have also a little suggestion :
when you release a version you could add a note to the forum to tell us what should be tested if you have specific ideas on what part was changed, compatibility with Palm hardware or games compatibility or both.

Simon 2 (CD talkie) works well :) Just have to test it harder.
Queen CD uncompressed works well too. But Queen CD with MP3 sound is very unstable: it crashes on exit, there is no landscape/wide icon on DIA in portrait mode and if I tap the place where it should be my T3 crashes, and there are small graphics errors like blue rectangles appearing on the screen or wrong colors.

Simon 1 talkie works great and the scumm games as well, but sky does not start.After the loading-message the screen turns white and my TH55 locks up.
Also i get a Fatal exeption sometimes, when i quit a game by the scummmenu.

Any idea when wide mode and the Buttons/jog work again on TH55?

Thank you for the additional engines chrilith. I only had a chance to test the Scumm one on my T3. Unfortunately it was more of the same on my T3.

ScummVM GUI

Monkey Island 1 Multilingual CD English- During the title screen it dropped to the debugger with following error: Error (10:152:0x8AB): script 19 not in room 10 at 356128+66356 in file monkey.001 After exiting the debugger and tapping OK I got a fatal exception reset.

Indiana Jones 3 FM Towns - Can get through the intro fine (no stall at the caboose) however, I got fatal exception reset when I tried to quit from the ScummVM Menu.

Zak McKracken FM Towns - The first time through it work fine through the intro and I could save a game in Zak room but when I loaded it back up I got a Memory ptr 5757 error which I needed to reset from. I can’t tell you what the exact error is because didn’t have anything on me to document it with and now Zak fatal exception reset on the title screen

LOOM FM Towns – soft resets on Lucasfilm splash screen and no music plays even though the MP3s are in the same directory as the game.

LOOM CD - fatal exception resets on the skill level screen before the narrator talks.


PalmOS skin (set to 64K cache)

Monkey Island 1 multilingual CD english (Adlib sound, High, 22kHz, DOS/PC) - Worked fine through the intro the first two times then I got soft resets on subsequents game starts

Indiana Jones 3 FM Towns (FM-Towns sound, High, 22kHz, FM Towns) - soft reset on title screen

Zak McKracken FM Towns (FM-Towns sound, High, 22kHz, FM Towns) - soft reset on title screen

Loom Fm Towns (FM Towns sound, High, 22kHz, FM Towns, Boot param 1, FM Towns) - soft reset on Lucasfilm Games splash screen

Loom CD (Adlib sound, High, 22kHz, DOS/PC) - soft reset on skill level screen

Basically I'm still not having any joy with my MP3 games on my T3.

Hi, one short comment:
For left handed people it could be of advantage to have the rotation of landscape/wide (1,5x) screen the other way around.

Not important, but convinient ;-)

The test version is stable :)
It is a bit slower, but not much. I changed sound rate from 44KHz to 22KHz, Sam&Max and DOTT work very well (similar to uncompressed versions with 44KHz) on T3 downclocked to 266MHz.

Thank you very much chrilith! I am one happy trooper right now. :D

The old sound code seems to have done the trick on restabilizing the MP3 games on my T3. Zak FM Towns, Indy 3 FM Towns, Loom FM Towns, Loom CD and Monkey Island 1 are all working perfectly in on my T3 with no fatal exception resets or soft resets. I took noktoto's advice and set them as high quality 22kHz instead of 44kHz and they are running quite smoothly.

As promised, I have sent you a donation. Excellent work!

I have tested FOTAQ, DOTT, S&M, Simon2 all with MP3 sound. All games work stable, but all are a bit slower (Simon2 even more than "a bit") then uncompressed versions with older engines. That is not a big problem, using medium sound quality and 22KHz (instead of high and 44KHz) helps here.

if i watch my Palm switch off and when i turn on no music

maybe ScummVM can overide Palm power settings somehow?

you can disable autooff going to the frontend in the Misc panel -> disable autooff

I am hearing the same thing on my T3. After the auto shut off runs and I power my Palm back up I get no sound, voices or music. I confirmed it with DOTT CD, Sam & Max CD, Indy 4 CD, Indy 3 FM Towns, Zak FM Towns, LOOM FM Towns, LOOM CD, Monkey 1 CD, Monkey 2, and Maniac Mansion enhanced. I disabled auto-off in ScummVM to avoid this.

I also noticed another sound related issue that if I enable Stay on in Cradle in the PalmOS Power preferences and play a game's long intro (like DOTT) with my palm on the dock that the sound will cut out after 3 minutes (my auto-off setting). I can also avoid this by disabling auto-off in ScummVM.

On TH55 games tested:

Monkey Island 1 audio german:
No mp3 music(works with version 0.71)

Sky:
still crashes device at startup.

Other Scumm games:
Adlib Sound/Music is hacked even at 8KHz with low quality and there are always many noises in the Background.

Still no Buttons and no wide mode working

For my TH55 the current release is a "backstep"... :(

In frontend menus (top of the screen!!!) there is Options menu and there is Misc...
i try to launch from SD card
after i copy files to RAM all work quite well for now exepts some freezes

Paavels : try to set the card cache setting to something like 32 or 64 instead of 4. This may fix your problem (not a real freeze, just long time to autosave)

autosave dont bother me i talk about real freezes after them i have to soft reset but they dont bother me either

I am using compressed ogg sound files (*.sog) for the games (e.g. DOTT, Sam'n'Max). Sound and voice is fine, but when the sdcard is accessed the sound gets a little hickup. How can I avoid this ? Is there another tweak than changing the output rate ? (My device: Palm TX)

oh, since i figured my TE2 was an intel xscale processor, i didn't think the arm version worked. it seems to work now but i can't get sound to work. will have to fiddle with it i guess. thanks.

I tried it with a Tungsten E and a TX and it worked fine with sound, I suppose it should work with your TE2. Did you check the arm optimization option ?

On another note, can someone tell me how to get my Treo's navpad button to register as a click? I'm in monkey island one and I can't get the navpad to register as a a mouse click! I've tried looking around to see if I could find the answer, but I think I might not be looking in the right place...

It works nicely in normal mode on my T3 but, wide-mode is no longer working.

On my T3 it dosn't matter if I set wide-mode or portrait (in game options), the game starts always in portrait, but then I can switch modes with button. It only happends in scumm games. Other engines seems not to have this new bug.

What is "OS5 advanced mode" for? I have some sound problems (some noise) when I switch it on.

Can someone please point out what files are needed to play Kyrandia (book 1) ?

All I get is a blinking greed square on the top left on my screen and the my treo 650 restarts itself. I already have the kyrandia.dat file (the thing is I don't know if it is in the right folder)

how do i use scummvm in wide-rez in ux50?
i heared some were able to, and some say it will be able in clie specific version.
i remember i was able to run in wide screen with some old version, but now with the latest, its only 320*320
i know lmame was abe to run it in wide-rez (link) (http://www.1src.com/forums/showpost.php?p=297012&postcount=2)
i tried arm/snapshot versions (090cvs/svn) and test version (080cvs).
can anyone explain how to run it in 480*320?

I tested with scumm engine.
With Test2 and snapshot i get a reset when loading the engine and with Test1 the screen gets white and the Clie does not repond anymore.
The memory page shows
Dynamic 6535 kb free
Storage 11124 kb free

No startaup screen, no crash info, my T3 just resets.
I've tried BASS and DOTT.

10MB dynamic & 25MB storage free.

Tha same with test1 & test2.

I tested monkey1, Simon1 taklie, queen and sky with and without the skin.
When i start, i get a window "importing databases" and after it disapears i get a Fatal exception and have to reset my TH55.

Well, with the latest test version on my Palm TX, I always get a soft reset exiting ScummVM. When running, I get the same error mentioned above... reset after Importing Databases... I'm going to try giving ScummVM more memory under UDMH and see if that helps. PS: SkinUI isn't compatible with ScummVM; insta-reset on launch if skins are enabled for it.

Silly me... I forgot... ScummVM doesn't like UDMH either xP --disabling it doesn't fix the above problems, however.

the files inside the zipfile are all dated 30.07.2006 and the whole thing has exactly the same size as the last version from 30.07.06.
are you sure this is the new version?

Now i have the new version.
Tested Monkey Island 2 and simon the sorcerer(Here the copy protection is still functional). Both games are working fine.
But Wide mode is still not working on my Sony clie TH55.
Any plans to implement this feature again?

well, the problem is always the same I don't own an OS5 clié and so I can't dev and test.

If the OS5 have been fixed it's because someone lend me an OS5 device, without this perhaps you'll never see any new version :(

No, v0.7.1 was 68k and compiled using Clié SDK, but now there is no SDK for ARM version of these API and so I can't dev if I don't have an ARM Clié, sorry :(

i tested new 0.91 yesterday and it works fine with Monkey2, Atlantis and Simon2.
Another question about the wide mode:
Am i right that you have no OS5 Palm with virtual silk(TT3,TH55,...).

Come on guys, is there nobody who can lend chrilith such a device to get Wide mode working on OS5 Palms?
