Posted this over in wireless, but this forum seems to get more traffic... :)
Before someone posts a well-intended, but not necessarily helpful link to another thread in these wonderful forums, let me begin by saying I've spent the last three hours reading everything that has been posted with regards to wireless hotsyncing.
I have tried every fix imaginable and still am unable to hotsync wirelessly. I can browse the internet with Netfront with no problems. I can send and receive email with no problems. But still no hotsync.
I am running a TH55, and am using a Dlink DI-624 (Rev. C) router. When I attempt to hotsync, it makes a connection to my network (verified by my router) and then just sits there. The first icon in the hotsync screen flashes the familiar blue/red for a millisecond, and then turns grey. It sits there for several minutes like this, and then the hotsync times out and gives the standard "Unable to make a connection...." line.
If anyone has any assistance they can provide, I would appreciate it greatly as I am just about at the end of my rope with this thing. I love being able to surf, but would love even more being able to hotsync via wifi as well.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you using a firewall? Turn it off and see if you can sync. If you can, that means you need to open port 14238.

Nope. No firewall active that I can tell, although I'm no networking expert. I checked all of the options on the router and there appears to be no firewall running - unless it runs by default and I have to enable that port for syncing. I'll try it when I get home from work. Thanks for the idea.

If you've read all the other related posts, you may have already seen this.
I can't sync via WiFi when I first boot my computer. When I attempt to sync, it connects to the network, then hangs on the HotSync screen. There is no indication at all on the desktop PC that the Clie is attempting to connect.
My solution is to right-click the HotSync icon, deselect "Network," then reselect "Network." Now I'm able to sync perfectly using WiFi. In fact, I'll be able to sync an endless number of times, until I reboot the computer. Then I have to do the Network thing again.
This is still annoying to me, but not the end of the world. I still hope to find a way to fix the problem.

Good Evening Evangel-
What version of Windows are you running? If it is XP I may be able to assist you as this perfectly describes my problem that I had.

Enter the primary PC name as !! on the hotsync primarcy pc section. Make sure the IP address is correct, it should match what the hotsync on your computer detects, but ignore the computer name it finds, just enter !! on the clie.

Is the Windows XP firewall on? Control Panel>Network and Internet Connection>Network Connection>Right click on your connection and select properties> click advanced tab> turn off firewall.
Just ignore me if you've been over this too...

Thank you! I have no idea how that stupid thing got turned on as I turned it off along time ago, but that is exactly what was keeping it from syncing! Works like a charm now! I can't believe that hasn't been brought up in these threads before, although I guess it was in a round-a-bout way as they mentioned disabling "all" firewalls. I turned off ZoneAlarm but forgot about the windows one...
Thanks again!

Good Evening-
It was brought up before. I actually got assistance from someone on a UX thread.
Note that you do not need to disable your firewall to make this work. Besides, you need the firewall protection. Try this:
When you Hotsync, ensure that the correct IP address is set:
1 Computer > Hotsync > Setup > Network > TCP/IP Settings (note the IP address)
2 TH55 > Hotsync > Primary PC Setup > Primary PC Address = (Above IP address)
3 If you have a firewall enabled on XP, add the Hotsync service and ensure the above IP address is entered
in there. (The internal/external Port is 14238 via TCP)
4 On the TH55 make sure the Primary PC Name is set to: !! in your Hotsync settings.
This information cribbed from a fellow CS'er name VAGRANT. If this works for you then props are due to him/her.
Hope it helps you...it did the trick for me.

While I can seamlessly WiFi sync over my home network, I too and trying to get an ad hoc sync with my laptop in the office. Since my office doesn't have a WAP, this seemed like the way to go.

Does the wi-fi hotsync capability include hotsyncing across different networks? (ie. clie and desktop not in the same subnet)
I don't have a TH55 yet...

Yes, I can hotsync with my work machine from home over my DSL connection. This is using pilot-xfer on Linux, I don't know if Windows is different.

I must say I have done everything listed in here and the other threads and still have not been able to make it work.
XP Home, XP firewall on, Hotsync service enabled in the firewall with all settings as specified, and Clie set up as per threads.
Hmm,
I guess the cradle sync is just going to have to be it.
