I've had a question/problem sitting in the VIDEO forum for a few days now and can't seem to get any help. In fact, I've gotten NONE. Today, I see where member Jason Hilton has a video concern also that he's getting very little response about. Where does one go for help with matters related to DVD/Video?

the video forums is there for you to READ about questions that you might have, not necessarily for you to post questions

Search first, ask questions later

Gee thanks; another winning reply - and my problem still isn't solved.

If the forums weren't for asking questions, would there even be a NEED for the forum?

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

You may not have gotten any help in the video forum. You definitely won't get any help here. This is due to the fact that you did not ask a question about your video problem. You only came here to gripe about the video forum. Now, what is your question?

My question was...

I converted some video from a DVD using Sioux Chief's method which basically has you using Smartripper to create .vob files and then MPEGModerator to convert to the .avi file and then ImageConverter to do the final conversion and copy to MS. I am pulling selected chapters from the DVD with Smartripper. After the process is complete, I launch the movie player and see the file there. When I select it, the player progress bar jumps from start to finish (left to right) continuously without playing the video. In this case, it shows the video as being 12:34 long, but it just hangs there without ever starting with the progress slider going back and forth (quickly) from left to right. I cannot stop this except by doing a soft reset. I have been successful once using this method, but I figured maybe I had some of the settings in MPEGModerater set different. Anybody know what is causing this?

Maybe you should either use a different program to convert to MPEG, or convert into AVI (With DivX Compression) instead. Usually Image Converter is known to mess up files with MP3 audio in them, with the exception being in MPEG files. So my best advice is to grab ahold of Flask MPEG (http://www.flaskmpeg.net/) and convert the .VOB into .AVI files. It is a slow process, but would probably be better than no video at all.

Greetings!
One more method you might try.

Grab the video from the DVD, using Smartripper - but rip the movie using the "movie" mode - using stream processing. Select the audio and video streams, and tell Smartripper to "Demux to extra file" for both the audio and video.

Use TMPGEnc or Womble MPEG-2 VCR to multiplex the audio/video together into a single MPEG-2 video stream.

Finally, use VirtualDubMod to import the MPEG-2 file, select the section you want to output, and write the video to disk as an .AVI file.

Best wishes,
Bawko

Thanks. I'll try these tonight. I'll report back with the results afterward.
