You should add the $6 shipping (3-5 days shipping), and at the end you will be credited with $6 making shipping free.

How is Dell with returns? Amazon has the TH55 for $380 (and no tax), and they except returns within 30 days with no questions asked. Will Dell do that?

It never credited it. It's only 6 bucks though, no biggie.
"Total Price $335.99"
which is still the best deal I found. If you want to pay 4 bucks more, just go to ecost.com (after you add it to your cart, the price goes to 340 with free shipping)
Or if you don't want to pay 4 extra bucks, by the end of today you could just go to the Dell link to the TH55 (http://www.techbargains.com/jump.cfm?id=217&arg=A0243462) and add the
"Stackable (combinable with other discounts) $30 off $350 coupon code: 1661F0E19049 Exp 11pm CT 3/3"

Ordered mine TH55 last night thru Dell. I'm one of the Best Buy losers so I'm hoping that Dell comes thru on this $335 price.
I'm upgrading from an N610C so I can't wait to get the TH55!

How is the Dell Extended Service Plan? It says it's $69. Is it worth it?
Rolando
I would (barely) hope that you could get Dell to drop that price a teensy bit more.
My story - I don't know how this can be used but for what it is worth.
I got my TH55 about 10 days ago when I went into the Houston CompUSA located at the Galeria, did a song and a dance about bad pricing, how Circuit City was doing that deal for $311 and BestBuy was screwing people out of the $319 price and I didn't really expect anything better but the $400 price was almost laughable. I expected that compusa.com online would match some price better than 400. And then my last question was - "Would you like my money or have it go to your online brother?" and I just looked at him.
At 9 that night I figuring out wifi.

I can't wait to get this thing... I wanted ask the people here who have ordered from Dell before... How long does it take for my order status to show up on the website? I got the Order Confirmation about an hour after I placed the order, with the order number and all, but I can't check the status on the website. As you can tell, I'm very very excited about getting this amazing machine!

Dell is great to deal with for peripherals, however you have a 50/50 shot at getting the item before the status is updated (based on orders I have done over the last 6-12 months).
If the item is in stock, it will go out quickly.
Good luck!

Has anyone had experience with returns at ecost? It seems a few people have had to return their TH55's for various issues. ecost's web site requires that the manufacturer certify the unit as defective. Is that a problem or ???
"Defective returns will be accepted for exchange or repair, at our discretion, within 30 days from the shipment date. <snip> A product must be diagnosed "defective" by a member of the Technical Support Staff at the manufacturer. You can get a list of manufacturer phone numbers by clicking here. Once it has been diagnosed, please ask for a case number and contact our customer service department for a return authorization number. "

I ordered from Dell and had the estimated ship date as March 10... and turns out for once Dell actually shipped it on March 1st and I received it March 4th.. the Sony screen protector (SP70) that I had ordered together (to get to $400 original price so that I could use the dell coupon) is still delayed, ironically.
Total price was 339.95 for the TH55 and the screen protector... can't complain as I am just playing with my new clie now :)

Just an FYI for anyone who got stuck paying the $6 shipping when it was supposed to be free. I emailed Customer Service and at first they told me my order wasn't completed withing the timeframe of the free shipping promotion. Then I blasted them and told them that the shipping promotion was still up on the sight right now and I wanted a refund of the $6. They are giving it to me. You might want to contact them as well. I ordered mine on March 3rd and my estimated ship date was March 15th, so hopefully they are shipping faster than that.

eltaino,
I ordered on Feb 26 I believe, it was during the 30 of $400 coupon deal ... the ironic thing is that the screen protector is still delayed, and now I have ordered one from Martin Fields.
Oddly enough, I have an extra T3 screen protector lying around and it actually fit the TH55 screen very well! So, in the mean time, at least I still have some protection. Now I really wish I had spent the money to get the UC55 cradle with my dell order instead :)

I have never posted on here but find the info helpful and wanted to say thanks. I purchased from Dell just before midnight march 2. I too am being told by the support site that "Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order." The estimated ship date is set at march 15. I was charged $6 dollars but called customer support and she gave me a refernece number and said that when I recieve the product to call them with hte reference number and they will refund me the shipping. She at first didn't seem familiar with the free shipping but I directed her to the ad. So that is my plight. Good to hear that some of you are getting your orders faster than they estimate. I hope that will be my case.

Dell is still running a 10% offer until March 18th, which brings the the price down to $360. For a few bucks extra, you get Dell's generous return policy, which seems worth it to me. Did anybody catch Dells one day $30 off coupon yesterday? I saw it this morning. Dang! I guess I'll wait to see if something like that reappears before the 18th.
PS Does anyone know the street price for a TH55 in Hong Kong or Taiwan, since I might be there in May? They apparently list for ~$460  in HK, but I wonder what people *really* pay. Chinese Tecuma (I assume they come with Chinese Decuma?) might be cool too.

Good deal, arin :)
I was really lucky I got mine at Circuit City, but I brought along my price list from shopper.com, heh heh... and comp-u-plus had it for $354.95 (including the shipping) - and even though CC doesn't beat or meet Internet pricing, the manager was VERY nice although a little dense, and kept refferring to Comp--U-Plus as Compuserve, and he agreed to give me the TH for $355 plus tax.
I was a happy camper :)

If you read Traditional Chinese, here's one store in Taiwan that sells Japanese TH55 for NT$13200 (~US$395), and these are for parallel imports. I heard that Sony Taiwan has its official Taiwanes version (I believe it's just English version with add-on Chinese system) for about NT$16800 (~US$500), and the add-on Chinese system (ChOS) is not the best out there, I heard.
No Chinese Decuma yet and no BT as far as I know.

Just cancelled my order with Dell and ordered it from Ecost. I contacted Dell Customer Care twice and they are completely worthless. They just talked in circles and they have no idea about anything. I finally at least got one of them to say that it wasn't in stock. That was a few minutes ago and since my order was supposed to ship today, I cancelled it. Dell's support is terrible. I'm beginning to think they don't want to ship out all those TH55s at $329 so they'll just delay until everyone cancels.

Every time I've ordered from Dell, they've always delayed my order (maybe it's just my luck). What I really hate about Dell is their screwed up order status system. Sometimes, my order would just disappear, and it would appear the next day. I had a heck of a time cancelling my TH55 last week, too. Even a couple of days after I cancelled my order over the phone, the order status page still says my order is still being processed. I had to call them 3 more times to get them to actually cancel my order.

Just to share my experience -
I placed an order from Dell on Feb. 24th. The order went to backorder status so on the 25th so I called and cancelled it immediately. I then placed an order at eCost and it was shipped next day. I had the TH55, for $339, in my hands on March 1st. :D
Meanwhile, Dell ignored the cancellation and shipped the order anyway on March 2nd. I had requested next day delivery so the price was $405 including tax. I called Dell support again and was given shipment refusal number. I refused shipment, they had it back in their warehouse on March 8th and now I have to wait up to 30 days to get the refund for the cancelled order which they billed to my account anyway.
I used to buy from Dell regularly but will not do so again. eCost is the way to go. I've had great experiences with them and their customer service. Great prices and good service all the way!

Man, that's bad. Hope you get it all worked out.
When my mom wanted a new computer I told her to just call Dell.
She's 60 something and had no problem whatsoever. But that was a year ago.
Hate to see something like that happen.
I think I'll probably contact comp-u-plus. $338 sounds like a deal.
Or do you think that Expansys for the BT enabled would be a better deal? Don't use BT so I don't think I'd miss it.
I'm so confused.

Don't order from Expansys! I live in CA and tried to order from them way in the beginning before the TH55 was released here. Tried contacting them for a period of 3-4 weeks and they blatantly ignored my email and after sending 3 emails to them over that time period I did not get any response. I would never buy from a stupid company that ignores potential customers when asking them for help.
I definitely suggest buying elsewhere.
Good luck :)
PS - At ffirst I thoght I MUST HAVE BT... but have since got a TH55 from here (USA!) and I am happy and not missing BT at all... It worked out without it.

I've had a great experience with Dell. I ordered a TH55 with cradle about 3 weeks ago for $354 with free shipping. I received it within a week, actually earlier than Dell had estimated.
The TH55 developed a popping noise from the speaker when I changed screens, so I called customer support at 8:00 a.m. this morning. The lady was very nice, had me describe the problem, put in an order for an exchange, and asked me if I was pleased with Dell's service! I checked the order status this afternoon, and the replacement TH55 has shipped and is to be here tomorrow. I am to send the defective unit in the box the new unit comes in, postage paid. If this works out as it should, I can't imagine better customer care.

Well, today Dell offered another $25 off deal on top of the 10% off offer for a total of $335, free shipping, so I went ahead and ordered. The order confirmation said expected shipment "on or before April 30." IIRC, when I ordered my NR70 from Dell lo those many moons ago, I waited a couple of weeks, which I could live with, but a month and a half?!? I have no great need for a new PDA, so I told myself I should just wait patiently, but now that I've ordered, I've of course already become impatient. I guess I'll wait a bit and see what happens. The price is right at least, and I wanted the 30 day option to return.

I'm another victim of Dell's inability to cancel an order. I got in on the $329 deal for a TH-55 several weeks ago but decided to cancel the order. I both called and replied to their "your order has been delayed" e-mail days ago. Upon reading of others' experience, I re-checked my order status and found that the TH-55 had shipped yesterday!
The upside is that my wife just fell in love with the TH-55 at CompUSA yesterday, so she'll be keeping it. I've caved to the upgrade fever and am trading up from an NR-70V to an NX-80V.

I suspect you'll get the TH55 fairly soon. Unless Dell's been swamped with orders and are awaiting a new supply from Sony, I can't possibly imagine an April 30 date.
I received my initial order on something like March 2, about a week and a half before the "on or before date" for it to be shipped.
Congratulations on a good deal. I hope you get it soon and enjoy it.

PS When I ordered my NR70 two years ago, there was an identical thread, people preordered, Dell delayed shipments, people got pissed off. The same thing happens every time Sony releases a new model, so I ordered knowing full well that I'd have to wait. I don't blame folks for getting ticked off, and I'll be kind of fed up if it hasn't shipped in a few weeks, but I find it amusing that this happens every time, and nothing has changed, and people (including me) keep coming back.

E-cost is now selling TH55 at $340 with free shipping. Add $10 and you get it overnight. ;)

Would you believe my TH55 is on its way?!? :D After giving me a ship date of April 30, resulting in the above wringing of hands and nashing of teeth. I was trying to resign myself to a long wait, but in a fit of obsessiveness, I checked my order, and was shocked to see that it said "shipped." They provided a DHL tracking number, and sure enough there's a package on it's way to me. I hope this means that all the folks who've been backordered since forever will soon be getting theirs too. I guess the shortage is over. :)

Far be it from me to say, "I told . . . ."! Congratulations. I have had nothing but good service from Dell, but that doesn't mean there are never glitches in the system. I hope you enjoy your new TH55, after allowing time for a full initial charge!

I was not able to wait from Dell (I ordered last 3rd of March). I cancelled it yesterday and took the deal from eCost for $340.00 and now my staff called me this morning that I have a package delivered by Fedex and apparently that is my TH55 device!
Can't wait to put the ARM screen protector on before even charging it! :) Thank you eCost!
Cheers!

I know it may seem that I have some financial interest in Dell, but I really don't. I just like to share good experiences.
My TH55 developed a popping noise through the speaker. I called Dell yesterday morning at about 8:00, since I'd had the handheld for only a couple of weeks. This morning, at 10:45, my replacement TH55 arrived. It's charging now. I couldn't be more pleased with Dell's service.
everytime I go to the Dell web site looking for TH55 all I see is the $399 USD price. Where are you guys seeing discounted prices?

Dell seems to run their 10% off for a couple of days every few days. Plus, their is often a $20-$30 coupon which can be stacked.
Check out www.bensbargains.net and www.techbargains.com every day. They'll report any deals which Dell, as well as others, have.

Dell had a 10% off deal going for a while which ended on the 18th, and every few days they'd run a daily special for an additional $25 or $30 off. These deals are gone for the moment, but they always come back, so if you're not in a hurry, keep your eyes open. You can check a site like this periodically:
http://www.dailyedeals.com/free_online_coupons/dell.htm
Some of the deals come and go in a day, so when I got serious about buying, I checked every day.
In case you don't know, other places to look for deals are:

well, I ordered my TH55 from Dell, then decided to cancel and order it from Expansys (I decided I wanted bluetooth) So, I cancelled it from Dell, but they shipped it anyway.
<rant>
I guess Dell apparently seems to think if you cancel, it means hurry and send one from the hidden stash they keep for emergencies. I had even received a confirmation email that it would be cancelled!
</rant>
It's says it will arrive on the 23rd.
But since I had already also ordered it from Expansys, I'm going to just refuse the shipment from Dell and wait an extra couple weeks... oh the agony of waiting!
I guess I'm just too used to having bluetooth to play games and transfer files with my fam/friends.
Expansys recently raised the price, so I'm glad I got it before that happened.

Just forget it. Don't even get TH55. It can't even play High Plus Quality movies from Image Converter. No 30fps, just 15fps. No 768kbps video, just 384kbps. Just don't even get the damn thing. Get a UX50...
*cries some more*

High Quality must be extremely important to you. So... you're even saying you'd rather have a smaller screen? Plus, if you want to watch a full movie on it, you'd have to have (and I'm just guessing) a 1GB stick at least for that high of bitrate/framerate.
You may as well get a laptop or a mini-dvd player for that much.
So that (UX50+1GB MS) is quite o' bit of cash wasted on a smaller (although more crisp) screen. I'm definitely not going to cry about this awesome new device. <grin> A TH55 and a 512mb MSPro will be more than sufficient for me.

I don't know if anyone else watches this, but Amazon.com has a very low price - $359.99 with free shipping.
I've found that Amazon will do it's best to match prices with a competitor for at least a couple of weeks. All you need to do is let them know the lowest price and they will usually match it or beat it. I matched them to Newegg last week (at $366) and look this week Amazon has it at $359.99.
Amazon rocks!

Okay, I'm ready to spend the extra $$$ and get a TH55 w/ BT.
Where should I go for the best price these days since I missed most of the pre-order hoop-la and savings? :(
Thanks for your help.
I just bought mine at Circuit City for $399 but you'll also get a $40 merchandise card.

I used to use NewEgg all the time, but they opened a distribution center in Tennessee and now they charge sales tax. :( They also charge tax to CA and NJ residents.
So I ordered mine from Mwave.com. It was $354 and I paid $22 for overnight shipping ($376 total). I figured that I was still getting it for $50 less than the local store price + tax. A gift card would have evened it out, but no place around here carries any decent Sony accessories to use it on...though in retrospect I could have put that down on the Wi-Fi router I just bought.

I tried to get Circuit City to price match Dell's $40 off (via 10 percent off). No luck, guy said it was against corporate policy. I asked him if a manager could do anything, even if just to make a sale and he said no. I'm sure I could have gotten more out of a manager, but I was just out of the dentist and half of my face was numb. Unecessary talking wasn't on my to-do list. I walked out of there and today I ordered my TH55 from NewEgg for $366. I'm in no mood to play price games at this point. I just want my PDA already... :(

Just a quick update, for all the people looking for a good deal. Office depot has a 100$ mail in rebate for any PDA 299$ and up. Just bought my TH55 there.
399+30$tax=429-100=329............................

I was at Office Depot yesterday (Woodinville, Washington) and I did not see that deal! I checked online and the only offer they had was a $40 mail-in rebate. =( Does that discount only apply in your particular state?

OK, I am in the UK - anyone know a good place to get a TH55 - new or garaunteed re-furb in the UK?
I don't fancy the potential problems of Import Tax or transport problems. And I want BT.

At the time, Amazon.co.uk were cheapest here but it took them 2 friggin' months to get it to my house so I can't really reccommend them...
The only other good sources seem to be the Duty Free Dixons at airports :D
Most places charge full or near-full price :/

Ach. That's infuriating. I have also hunted all round the net.
I wonder why Sonystyle don't do refurbs in the UK...
Ah well. I am mainly after it to aid in my reviews - compatability and all that. I can wait.
