ClieSource Forums are still crashing IE6!

I don't know what's going on here but I get about two crashes per day. For the record, my system (http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.html?rigid=16856) is rock solid with all the latest software patches. While I am deeply saddened by the loss of the forum database, this is not funny anymore. ClieSource Forums are the only forums out of the 67 I frequent that do this. The problem needs to be fixed.

BTW, I have the same problems with my laptop and my backup Kayak dually. It's not my computers!

So far. But things are a tad slow, but not quite as slow as shortly before the big crash.

It's funny how the few people having this problem keep blaming it on Cliesource. I practically live here, and have NEVER had it crash my system. And I have accessed this site from more than a dozen computers with no problems.

I don't know what the problem is, but I can not replicate the problem, and I have tried. I have accessed this site from everything from an old Win95 dial-up box, to the latest WinXP Athlon and P4 boxes and I have no problems.

At home I have 3 computers running Win98SE, Win2000Pro and XP-Pro. All work fine here. At work I have 12 computers running XP-Home, XP-Pro and Win2K. All work fine as well.

I have also tried wandering around this page from several friend's computers trying to find a crash so I can help figure it out, but I absolutely can NOT make this site crash any system, so I am at a loss as to the cause of the problems some people are having.

I suspect the problem is not specifically related to Cliesource, but is a combination of factors that some systems are sensitive to. I wish I could offer something more constructive, but I really think the main problem lies within the systems that are experiencing the crashes.

I think the people having these problems should start posting system specifics to help nail this down. The problem will not be solved without information.

Special Browser Settings (filters, security, etc.):
Extra Software (Anti-Virus, Anti-Pop-Up, Anti-Spyware, Chat, etc.) anything you normally have running at the time of the problems.

Don't know what other info may be useful. Maybe a Mod/Admin can suggest more here...

The only other thing I can offer is a suggestion to try another browser, since the problem seems to be limited to IE.

Also list whether or not you have installed any instant messanger software such as Yahoo Messenger.  This software often attaches itself to IE and has definately been a source of  problems for others in the past.  Especially if you are using Yahoo Messenger software in conjuction with a pop up killer.

I'm running IE 6.0 with all the latest updates and patches on Windows ME both at work and at home, one a Dell laptop and the other an Athalon setup. I've never had a crash while visiting ClieSource at all, so I wonder if it is some other program you have installed as well. There might be some kind of monitoring program running that is giving fits when it reaches ClieSource. It could be as simple as a pop-up killer getting out of hand and crashing when it sees ClieSource's logo... hard to tell, but it's been quite stable for me.

I use IE6 at work and at home without any problems at all.

Work computer is W2K Pro -and- Home computer is WXP Home.

No problems at all.

I have IE6 at both work at home with all IE updates and cookies enabled, one computer is a Win98SE Dell laptop, the other is a WinME desktop. I use no pop-up blockers, and have a university ISP. Both have the latest version of McAfee VirusScan. I have never experienced a single crash or pop-up ad using Cliesource, and obviously I'm here a lot.

I have used Cliesource with IE6, Mozilla and Opera on systems ranging from P3 550 MHz to dual AMD 2100+, Win 98SE to XP-Pro.

This week I have used Mozilla and IE6 on the 2.1 and my laptop here at work with no problems.

I would, as a previous post, suspect either messenging software, IE Plug-in or a P2P client. Try it with another browser such as Mozilla and see if you get the same problems.

- MacClie Actually, there weren't that many people with the problem. When you consider the size of the member base here, the percentage having trouble was VERY small.

I visit from home (XP/ IE6 and Mozilla 7.0) and work (2000/IE6 and Win98SE/IE5.5) and don't have any problems on any of them. I had a pop up killer installed for awhile (don't remember which one) and found I could not enter some sites. Could it be your security settings?

Before the database problem, there was a few times that the page wouldn't load and attempt to load an ad that took forever. It seems to be fixed up now though. I run WinXP with IE 6.1

I use a IE 6 and Netscape on an Athlon XP using wireless connection at home - no problems, EVER. At work Windows 98 and NT on a network connection with no problems from any machines in the building. The systems there are 700 MHz Intel (crap inside) machines with pathetic 64 MB of memory.

ClieSource must have something to do with it. The crashes occur when a ClieSource window is open. Otherwise, an IE6 crash is rare.

CWO dialup (Top of the line service and equipment, I used to work for them.)
XP Pro SP1
IE6 with all the latest patches
Standard security settings
No chat software. Problems occur whether AdsGone and PC-cilliin are running or not.

I find it interesting that my W98 laptop and W2K SP2 Kayak dually have the same problem with ClieSource. I’m no networking wiz but perhaps there is something going on between my ISP and ClieSource?

No problems at home with WinXP and Phoenix. No problems too at the office with OS X and Safari. :)

No probs here... IE 6 on a ThinkPad with Win 2000 and on HP desktop with Win XP.

I had this problem continually until the crash. IE6 Win XP on HP Laptop and Win 98SE on one desktop and Win 98SE on the other desktop. I did not change any settings or delete any programs. The problem I used to have was that the ads kept trying to load over and over until it froze. Now it works fine. I definitely believe it had something to do with the ad server somehow taking away focus. I sympathize with anyone who still has the problem but I do think ClieSource was to blame as I had never had any such problem on any other site.

Just because you have the latest patches does not mean that your system is rock solid.... As new patches may be worse than the old ones...
