I haven't seen this post out there. For those of you owners with the Clie N710C who are thinking about getting the TH55 consider this.
The N710C is NOT COMPATIBLE with the new Palm Desktop for Clie (ver 4.1) that comes with the TH55. You will not be able to sync the N710C whatsoever.
It's nice that the manual tells N710C owners to look at the sony.com support website for help with the Palmdesktop. Unfortunately, there is NO INFO there to help out. After 2 hours with 1st level and 2nd level tech support people, we come to the wonderful conclusion that the N710C is not supported by the new Palmdesktop and Hotsync. And they do not know if and when a patch will be created to fix this problem.
I was hoping to give the N710C to my wife to use, since she's using the Palm Vx, and I'd be using the wonderful (IMHO) TH55. Now the only solution (to sync the N710C) would be to flip installing/unstalling the new and old palmdesktops on our one and only computer, or get a second computer just to keep the old version of palmdesktpo on to back up the N710C and TH55.
To add to this nightmare... my TH55 does not have a reset button. Peering into the tiny hole, all I see is white plastic and some metal contacts. What the frick?! So now I'm taking the lesser of 2 evils by sending the unit back to sony (via their pre-paid packing), vs. trying to go back to the seller (ecost.com) to get a new unit (where I'd have to pay to sent the unit back). I think more than likely, sony would send me a new replacement unit. I cannot see them trying to open it up and try to fix on a new reset button... I hope.
If there is anyone out there sharing one of these unbelievable events please post it. I'd like to hear. Thanks.
