View Full Version : Screen brightness&Movieplayer
I am concerned that the brightness of the TH-55 is much less
than my NX-80, has anyone been able to compare them?
Also, I enjoy the Movieplayer on the NX, I wonder how good
the display looks on the TH, I might go for the TH...
(IMHO I think maybe sony reduced brightness, and went with
lower speed processer to maximize batt life with the power
hungery wi-fi transmitter...maybe);)

Yes, the brightness on the TH55 at max 100% is about 40% of the NX80v. It is not bad though since it is easier to my eyes and still bright enough. The display on the TH55 look clearer to me than the NX80v. This is probably partly due to the brightness to be lower (the NX80v seem to produce shimmering effects when it is too bright).

Wow! THAT much huh? I suppose it's not that big a deal as I almost never use my NX80V at max brightness. It's simply WAY too bright @ maximum setting and plus, where I keep the setting(@ about 20% of max) is more than fine. I think that's why the TH55 is coming back with all these amazing battery results, it is experiencing a much less strain on it's battery (which I have a hunch is the same one in the NX80V).

There's an post from last week that had side by side screen comparisons. Do a search on it. Besides the brightness the comparison demonstrates color quality as well. (Sorry, too lazy to search for you :) )
Well I went to CC w/my NX80 and full 1 GB ms of video
I recorded off my sony VR-100 unit.
The 55 is very noticably dimmer, it really lost a lot of
details in the shadows and lower light areas of a video
(Seinfeld) it did look like a 'dark blob' as someone posted.
I really wanted the 55 to look as good or better than the NX,
but it did not.
I tend to keep my brightness up high, it seems to help my
aging eyes, and more contrast also helps.
If sony made it dimmer for batt life, I wish they had given to
option to the user,:(
