Is there any documentation available for changing these skins? I'd don't even care that much about a new skin but I'd love to be able to at least change the background color of the launcher.

I use the built in launcher also. I have done a few things to make it more user friendly that I posted in this thread:

looks good if you like the default nx launcher setup. i dont. tappad types shown arent supported on nx. check out wondersilk thread for graffiti skins.

Naw, I'll stay with ZLauncher! Just because it looks pretty doesn't make it work better. Two glaring defects in the OEM launcher and LauncherX is the inability to scroll a page at a time with the JOG wheel. I also find the Clie launcher awkward and confusing to look at, sorry Annie:)!

No need to apoligize. I'm just using what was already there....and finding it is not so bad. So, I will continue using it until I find something more to my liking.

I use the CLIE launcher and love it. I will eventually buy some of these skins. Kinda sucks how you cannot try out any of them first. You have to buy them. Should at least have one trial version so you can make sure it is easy to use and you are sure you want it.

Where do i download the launcher skins, it only links to the VG/status bar. Also what program do you use to skin the launcher, i'd like to try my own stuff and not charge $5 :P (dw, i will be original, no copying)

I have been reading the thread WonderSilk and they state that they do not have a
english version as of yet.
Also I cant seem to figure out what or how to use it.
They are at a more advanced level then I.
I am hoping for simple easy to understand directions if this ever comes out in a english
format.
Anyway back to my original question,
Where did you purchase the skin bars from?
I go to the web site and can only view the skins.
If you could direct me to where I need to go to purchase them I would appreciate it.
Also do I need anything in reference to app's???
If so which is the easiest to understand.

If you look at the right next to the screen there is a $ sign. You click in it and it takes you to Handango for the purchase.
The Launcher skin is easy to manage, you go into Menu > Options > Preferences, and choose the skin you installed in the Display option.
For the slikscreen and status bar, I would recommend using Photoskin to install and manage.

I am trying SkinManager to see what I can do with it. I just now downloaded a couple of skins from ClieSource's skin section. How do I delete them when I decide which one to keep? I don't see them anywhere....in the delete area or on ClieFiles.

I prefer the native launcher as well. I've tried LauncherX, Zlauncher and others...they're cool, but the Clie Launcher is different and really not so bad once you get used to it. I DO like the idea of being able to customize it, Xlr8.

Nevermind, I answered my own question. I looked in Filez and found the 2 skins I uploaded. (they had an obscure name) I was able to delete them through Filez.

I use Photoshop and Constructor (you can have constructor from the Palm OS SDK) you can use PaintShopPro and PRCEdit, too. Just open the CLIELauncherSkin.prc with constructor and have a look at the bitmaps. If you've made skins before, you should be able to grasp the how.

One thing, though : the up/down arrows bitmaps are in the app, so when you make a skin, just be careful to match the colors. and the "slider" too is app-defined. I am quite sure CLIELauncher supports active skins, so you may be able to modify those points, but I'm not enough a programmer to understand how.

I am designing the lores bitmaps, but I guess now that they're useless...

Then you'll want to modify the internal name of the skin (the one that appears in the popup menu in the prefs) you'll have to use rsrcedt (onboard app) to modify the DATA 1001 resource (for my part, I didn't changed the lenght of the res, so I have to put 12 ASCII chars for the name. I put spaces (Hex code 20) to fill the gap when needed)

I had the same problem too. Until i installed PowerRun. PowerRun is this program which lets your copy programs AND their databases onto the Clie. There are some restrictions to this but it's mostly acceptable. It then creates sort of a shortcut or link to the program on the memory stick and you can organize that link into any category you want.

Easy download and instructions. Price is not bad (hey - Mytho is a developer and trying to make a buck. I gotta respect that).

Installation was a breeze for the launcher and I used photoskin for the status bar. I didn't use the graffiti area cuz I use Fitaly.

Where do we find CLIELauncherSkin.prc? It doesn't exist on my NX.

It´s located in Rom, you need Filez to copy it to your Memstick
and MSImport to transfer it to PC.

no, they aren't. It is info for devs on how to categorize and comment their apps for CLIE Launcher (you know, the little slogan under the AppName). There's no info on CLIELauncher coming from Sony yet.

Using Filez, check the ROM box on the right then click filter and type 'launcher' (contains). Its right there staring you in the face : P. The only problem is prcedit crashed when i tried to open the bitmaps. Any ideas?

if the type/creator is OK, you just have to select it from the options in CLIELauncher

if you didn't change the name in DATA1001,
you'll have something lik this in the popup:

Default(small)

Default(small)

the third and fourth items are your skin

Ok, here is a quick test skin i made in paint (i had no choice-im on my laptop, i use gimp on my desktop).

I put together a simple skin maker to make the skin file. It's basically done except i need to make a small helper app to change the name that shows up on the preferences list.

Help!

I am stuck at trying open the ClieLauncherSkin.prc file with "Constructor for Palm OS 1.2b4" (Windows). It seems that this software only wants to open resource file (*.rsrc). Am I in a wrong place? Have I stupidly forget to select some option flag(s)?

Note: I used FileZ to copy ClieLauncherSkin.prc from ROM. Then, I transfered to my PC.

Sure, i redid that one a little, as the first one was just a quick one i did in paint to test things out. I will post it in a little bit. I had gotten sidetracked on another skin and never bothered to post that one.

Can anyone tell me what happens in the "Regular" Clie launcher after applying these lovely skins? If there was a way to have a background image in the standard launcher screens that would be perfect for me.

Just with thay way the clielauncher is, there is not much room to place a background image. The white parts you see in the launcher can only be messed with just a little bit (you can make it smaller giving more room to the left side).

In the Menu-Options-Go To Standard View.

Then you'll get the more traditional Clie launcher set up, one where you can see more than 12 apps per tab, unlike the CLIE Launcher View.

With the skins applied, does this view reflect those changes, or behave normally?

Ok, I need help, lots of it. I have been sorting through this forum and I can't find help for what I need. I have a sony clie TG50. I would like to skin my Sony Clie Launcher, not the VG area or the status bar, just the skin. I dont' have a bar or VG area. Please can someone help me!!!!!

on the NXs, you go to the menu, then tap options, then Settings (?) in the Settings window, you have a popup menu somewhere on the lower part of the window that allows you to choose through the installed skins (of course you have to install skins before)

and of course you have to be in the CLIE Launcher mode, not the standard view. (it happens sometimes, I'm not making fun of you)

If you tried that and it doesn't work, send me the default skin file; I'll look at it and try to help you.

There is no Setting section, under preferences there is not a section to select installed skins. Is the TG50 diffrent then the NX because they both you Palm OS5 dont' they. Hmmm.....

I have a TG50 too. In CLIE Launcher Preferences I can choose the following:

Show Expansion Cards
Display Animation
Use Drag & Drop
Use Beam Icon..
Display

In the box for Display I can choose either if I want the small Icon view or (large) Icon view. Would this be the place to choose the new skin if installed?
