I must be losing my mind here, but when I looked at the NZ tonight at CC it appeared that the case is plastic. I probably missed it, but I do not recall anyone mentioning this in their impressions. Unfortunately, I find that I really like the mag. alloy approach Sony has taken with the NR/NZ.
I also did not like the styus as everyone else has mentioned. It kept falling out because it is housed where you grip the device in tablet mode(?) and you have to hook one end and slide the other into a housing (worse design I have seen by Sony, who is usually one of the better usability R&D companies).
Question for NZ owners: Do you really have to open up the rubber connecter protective flap/cover on the back of the device everytime you want to put it back in the craddle?
Overall, very cool device, but it did (sorry) look huge beside the NR and NX (wider was what really got me b/c everyone complains about the thickness already).
It is a very sweet device and the screen did look somewhat brighter, but I think my NX looks and feels much more solid and has a better quality feel to it than this device. Glad I got to play with it, I was close to ordering one sight unseen (well, actually device unplayed).
On a lighter note: if I attach a small mag light with duct tape to the side of my NX I can still take small pics in the dark (simulating flash with quick reflexes) and it will still be just as wide as the new NZ ;)
I like it, just not as much I now like and appreciate the quality of my NX. Guess I will wait (with my crappy small pics) for the next megnesium alloy design.
Just my 2 cents, but I would advise anyone who is just looking for the latest clie (and does not need the camera, but wants it, of course) to go compare. It might save you some dough, like me!
