Tonight I had my first chance to really use the NZ90 as a real camera (not just playing around with it). It was Science Fair night at my son's school and so I shot some pics. Regular mayhem kid stuff, lots of people running about and you have to be fast on the camera trigger. Here are my thoughts, if anyone is interested. While it is very very cool to have a real digital camera inside a PDA, there are some major drawbacks so far.
1. I was able to take about 25 pics with and without the flash, not bad but my Olympus can shoot over 100 pics no prob on a set of batteries. If you're planning on using it as your only camera, this might be a problem. You would definitely need a spare battery.
2. There is a noticeable pause (1 - 1.5 seconds) from when you hit the capture button and the flash goes off and the picture is taken, this is a pain when you're trying to capture that random action family shot.
3. The start up time (9 sec) is a really bummer. Everytime you turn the pda off or it turns itself off, you have to open it up & wait 10 seconds to take a pic. Ok, not a total problem but very inconvenient.
4. The quality of the pics was ok, about what I would expect from a 2 mp camera. The flash was definitely needed indoors as some of the pics I took without the flash were a bit blurry. Its kind of odd relying only on the pda screen to frame and take your shots but it not so bad.
5. The quality of the pics was ok, about what I would expect from a 2 mp camera. The flash was definitely needed indoors as some of the pics I took without the flash were a bit blurry.
Final thoughts: If you take alot of pics and hate to lug a camera around with your PDA, this is for you. But remember that for $800 you can get both a killer PDA and a killer Camera, and the Camera you get would blow the nz90 away. But then you'd have to lug both around.
I exercised my maintenance plan so I only paid $200 plus $100 for the new warranty. I would not have paid $800 flat out to be honest.
