I finally got around to trying out the different settings and see what I can come up with. A couple of things I found.

First off, this camera does great in lowlight only with the flash. Without the flash it is very poor, too grainy. What is intereseting in some aspects I think the NX70 might do better without a flash (only at 640x480 max), but cannot compare to the quality of the NZ90 with flash. (not 100% sure, since dont have nx70 anymore cant compare , but dont remeber my pics without flash being this grainy)

First off here is a pic of my parrot with the flash indoors around 7 pm at night:

Now here is a pic of a scene without flash, indoors, 7:30 pm, 1600x1200, using my olympus 2.1 mp camera:

http://www.thebandalliance.org/pics/olympus.jpg

Now here is that same exact scene with my NZ90 with no flash using 1600x1200 , fine quality:

http://www.thebandalliance.org/pics/nofalshfine.jpg

Now here is the same exact same only difference is I used standard quality on the NZ90, od thing seems to be a bit better not 100% sure about that, my eyes can be deceiving me:

http://www.thebandalliance.org/pics/noflashstan.jpg

Now here is the same scene using NZ90 , fine quality 1600x1200 with flash this time:

http://www.thebandalliance.org/pics/flashfine.jpg

Now for fun same exact scene, NZ90, no flash, 1600x1200, fine quality but this time I used twilight setting, looks very good in the sense of no graininess, but it also looks a bit odd like it lost color, but I think I can live with this:

Now I am not a huge camera expert, but looking at the data, I noticed all of he NZ90 pics was using ISO 344, while my olympus without flash was ISO 100, I think that might be the reaosn why so grainy with the NZ90 without flash. I wonder if there is a way to cahnge the ISO, but did not see that option.

All in all, I think the camera on the NZ90 really rocks for the portability, definitely much better then the NX70/NR70, especially great for outdoors, and indoors with flash.

yep all of the above were taken with 1600x1200

and my bird was with flash and fine quality.

I am not sure of difference in terms of camera terms between fine and standard.

fine and standard usually deals with internal settings in camera for contrast and sharpness in general terms, very general....been in camera stuff for 9 yrs now Still trying to become professional photographer!! :)

agh ok now I know what you are talking about, in my olympus I have a setting for sharpness, soft, normal, hard

I usually set my olympus for normal, since I dont do too much post processing, and hard is too shrap.

I should proabbly just stick with standard, since most cameras dont do shaprneing too well, photoshop will do a much better job.

Too bad we could not change the ISO.

I really love this camera, was just hoping the pictures were better in lowlight without flash, since you cant always use a flash. I really thought it would be better since it is a CCD.

Couldn't resist. Besides it makes a colorful addition to the gray bird. Thanks for the work on the photos.

The fact is that this dark grainy quality extends to the video portion as well. Now we know the video portion can't use the flash, but video from the NX70V is far, far superior to the NZ90. This is a major disappointment since it is quick videos that I like about the cam versus stills.
Whatever they did, they destroyed the video camera's ability to take half-way decent vids, which the NX70V's are, unless you are in the brightest outdoor light.

Given that there isn't much else worth all this extra money, I think my NZ90 is going back to Compusa and I will be keeping my NX70V.:(

LarryB,

to be honest that is the only feature I have not tried yet is the video

mainly because I always felt the reoslution on the nx was way too small. It looked great on the nx, but once you transferred to the pc was too small for my liking.

It is a shame that the nz did not give you better resolution, I will have to test the video now and see if there is a difference. Even if it is worse, since I dont plan on taking too much videos, I am still very satisfied with nz90

to be honest i just took a video and it seemed to be the same to me as my NX videos.

either way, i really wont be using the video option too much anyway, except maybe to watch some mpeg4 movies, but not too record.

i can't post the pictures here... children might see them but trust me u don't need night shot. With pitch black and the flash on high u can take some amazing pictures. THis thing truly is awesome.
