Okay I've had my NZ90 since the 14th and I recieved it from the UPS guy directly from SonyStyle.com. Well today when I got home from School I turned my Nz on and the batter is at 20% the night before it was atleast at a decent 80%. Well anyways I took my NZ set it in the Cradle to let it charge. It was on at the time so I went ahead and checked the battery information display right after i set it in the cradle and the battery power said 100% and 6 hours. Well I scractched my head about this, and descided to take it off the cradle. As soon as I took it off the battery display droped down to 20% but the battery, but the Est. Usable amound of time on the display said 4hours and 20minutes. Which doesnt seem right do you? and I put it back on the cradle and the battery life jumped up to a 100% again.
Heres something else I just noticed right now also. I am using the new beta version of ZLauncher and when i check my battery life with Zlauncher it says 55% remaining battery life. but when I check it in the normal OS launcher it says 85% remaining. Whats going on here? I would appreciate it if you would know a fix for this or a solution to my problem. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Triton Bloom

I think you should ask Sony about it.

That's bizzare. I'm not having that problem at all with my battery (although it does lose it's charge quickly). I spoke with Sony tech support today about my ATRAC3 problem (listed in another post) and they know NOTHING about the 90 yet. I mentioned the battery draining so quickly, and he told me to turn off Bluetooth, so I did. That seems to help a little....

I got the NZ90 yesterday and it has the same issue. Severe battery power management problems. Turn it on and the battery shows 93%. I go to take a picture and it's at 20% with no power for the flash. 10 seconds later it's back to 66%. I'm going to have a hard time not demolishing this in my review.

sounds like you guys just need to condition/break-in the battery...
Lithium-Ions tend to work a lot more accurate after a couple weeks.

I thought that as well, but the swings are nothing like I've ever seen in any PDA and I've owned almost every single one over the past few years. I think there's something worse going on.

I drained the battery till I couldnt even turn the PDA on again and charged it for a straight 5 hours and the battery problem seems to be gone now. it is now reading my battery power correctly 100% charge at 5hours and 10 min.

Full explanation on page 20,21 of the manual.
Short version: drain that sucker til it's damn near dead, then charge it back. I'm guessing that sets some sort of baseline for the battery but it does the trick

do i need to backup first? will an almost total drain cause my data to be lost?

I just got mine yesterday. I am trying to drain mine (15%) as I type. I have the brightness on nuclear and I am playing MP3s and I am hotsynching at the same time to run the battery. Just make sure you have done a backup before you do this. I will just charge this overnight.
BTW has anyone been able to get YiShow installed on their NZ. I downloaded a version from the skins area, but it is giving me problems.

Caesar is right - backup before you drain it as a just in case. It "should" be fine and the backup cell should guard everything.
YiShow - I had it and works/worked fine. I dumped it as I'm shopping around. For now, I'm using the launcher it comes with.

Drain the battery till it is compleatly dead, till the power light doesnt even come on. After doing so charge it for 5 hours on the cradle. Draining your battery this way will not kill your info on your NZ90 unless you leave it uncharged for too long. I a few Battery Problems but they are now fixed.
