Hi Guys,

Just wanted to start a new thread to talk to all the doctors/residents/medical students and nurses.

Is there any medical software that you have found extremely beneficial in the hospital or clinic. Especially at point of care.

Just thought we could share our experiences.

I personally find:

Med Cal: very very valuable. Much more so than Med-Math. It has a steroid conversion equations. As well as a nice Na correction equation with IV Fluids. Cost is free

Epocrates: Drug data base. Two verison availabe. The paid (approx $60/year) has stanford equvilant which is quite weak and Alternative Med listing which is also very weak. I recommend just getting the base verison which is free. Give you all the information that you need. easily and quickly.

Tarascon Pharmacopoeia. Much harder to navigate than the epocrates. All the data is in one screen and the bookmarks just scroll down to it. No real stop points for the info...runs into each other. easily miss the point you were looking for. Cost approx $3/month

Diagasauraus: is actually an excellent program for differential diagnosis. Very easy to use. Cost is free

Med Rules: great check list for when to treat and when not to treat in calculator format. Cost is free

These are among my favorite programs.
Maybe people can list the one they like and if there is a cost to getting the program.

Lets get a conversation started

PEPID is my favorite. Also use ePocrates, ERSuite from Medical Wizards, BDicty medical dictionary on regular basis.

Epocrates just released their Dx program yesterday. It seems very comparable with other 5MCC programs I have used and its linked to Rx which should be handy

How much extra ram did the ePocrates Dx program take up? Discount price offer to upgrade ends soon and I am trying to decide if I want to buy.

Would have to be able to move to flash with jackflash or move to mem stick or have to dump too many other programs. I have the main ePocrates program in flash now. Works great that way.

I have found Johns Hopkins antibiotics guide useful (and free!)

www.hopkins-abxguide.org

I also carry a series of anatomical jpeg files on my clie to illustrate anatomy to students / residents (even patients).

What files did you move to flash and how much memory did you save in ram?
Thanks

Hey Guys,

I think the keysoftware to have is MedCalc. It has so many equations that make life so much easier.

Anybody using the Skyscape verison of 5MMC how does that compare to the epocrates verison of 5MMC?

Seems to be a bit price....they are trying to intice us with their 50% off coupon for medical residents.

Anybody using Diagsauraus (the differantial diagnosis program). They are acutally giving it out for free on their website. I don't have link right now...but will post it later. It is a nice program that makes you think of illiness that are logical but that you didn't think about before.

take care
