Hm... I installed Beyond Contacts, didn't like it, and uninstalled it. Beyond Contacts reassigned the buttons at the base of my TH55 to launch BC (datebook, addresses, etc). I assumed that BC would release the mapping when I removed it, but it didn't (a little too comfortable with Windows, I suppose). The fourth button is not user selectable, so now what?!

I called Sony, was transferred to a second tier support rep (I think), and when I told him what happened, he was silent. I explained that I understood that the designers had intended to keep the fourth button as the Data Assistant button only (so much so that the fourth button won't even turn on the unit when pressed), but they obviously didn't consider software remapping the buttons on its own. Now, because they didn't intend for me as a user to change the button, how in the world am I supposed to get the button back the way it's supposed to be?

His answer was a hard-reset. Ah... wonderful. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it makes me laugh that something this simple has slipped by the designers. At the very least, they could have included a "reset the Data Assistant" button. Of course, I would like to just remap the button away from the Data Assistant, but am at a loss on how to do that.

Any suggestions?

try using THeGoGo app to remap it to the data assistant. U can use that program to remap the fourth button as well as the capture button.

see thread http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42566 and it's the first option (at least on mine)

I kinda like that data assistant button, just highlight name, or email or whatever and do what you want with it :).

I noticed that, and I'm interested. I just seem to have bad luck with stuff like this (see my previous post)... Here's hoping that an English version is just around the corner. The capabilities seem incredible.

Did you try reinstalling Beyond Contacts, going to Options --> Map Handheld Buttons... and then setting the fourth (all of them really) to None, and the delteing Beyond Contacts again?
The B.C. settings will override the system settings, but not if you set the buttons to None within B.C. I won't promise anything, but that shoudl fix it.
BTW, I love B.C. I Use DateBk5 instead of the B.C. datebook, and usually use WordSmith for memos.

BTW, THeGoGo is working flawlessly for me.
