I have got my clie now for about 1 month. Now i just recieved the 128 memorystick. I know that you can put movies on the memory stick and watch then with gmovie. The problem is that you can only use *.pdb files. I now have an *.avi file.

Can anyonme help me/explain to me how i can convert the avi file to an pdb file

Oh, and if the .avi file is in divx format, you're going to need a program like VirtualDub in order to get it in the format kinoma likes, which I don't know what it is.

And you better have to check on the sony support website the updates for your Clie : I had pbms with Kinoma (movie frezzed, I needed to soft reset). Once the updates where done, pbms had gone.

No Updates is Irrelevant

You might want to ask this in the video forum.

Picture Gear can convert movies, but the quality is pretty poor. Kinoma is MUCH better, but the producer is not free ($29.95).

I can fit about 90 monutes on a 128 stick at decent quality. To get much more than that you really have to chop quality. So far I have converted Shrek (82 minutes), Lilo & Stitch (83 minutes), Tomb Raider (93 minutes) and Final Fantasy (98 minutes). All were under 128MB, but the 2 longer movies were a very tight fit (less than 500K free on 128 stick).

You are trying to convert a file that is in an incompatible video format (div3 is DivX3). Get Virtual Dub and convert the file to something Kinoma understands; Cinepak, Indeo Video (up to version 4.4) or ON2 VP31. Or use Tmpgenc to convert to MPEG-1.

If I create Trek (DS9) episodes, is there anyone who can host them? My website, www.battl.com doesn't have enough montly bandwith to keep up with demand.

geekgod just wondering what format you coded the movies in.
is it widescreen NR format?

No, the files would get too large to fit. Or would look really crappy. A larger video frame requires more video bandwidth to look the same (increasing the frame size by 50% would require something like twice the bandwidth). I've done a few shorter things in NR wide format that look cool. Didn't actually own an NR 'til about a week ago (but got to play with them a lot at work). I'll experiment a bit and let you know what I find.

Could probably do a short movie in NR wide if you split the movie across 2 sticks... I might give that a try someday just for kicks.

I've also been thinking about doing a really long movie like Fellowship Of The Ring or Two Towers across 2 sticks. Anything much above 90 minutes starts to look pretty poor when compressed enough to fit on 1 stick (although it might be fun to try, just to see if it can be done).

One of these days I'll write up and post my settings and suggestion for encoding full movies. I had several posts like that before black monday. Oh well...

Hmm, that explains why my widescreen DS9 episode was 171 MB. :)
