View Full Version : Speculation on OS6 cameras?

I have a dillema. I currently own an NX70v, and like it except that I would like to get one that is a little less bulky. I am definitely going to wait for OS6, however, before I do that. I am getting a new cell phone in april (when my parents' plan expires) and plan to put a bit of extra money into getting a nice phone. Here's where my problem lies. I don't know anything about what kind of PDAs will come about with OS6. I would like to have a camera in either my phone or PDA, but don't want to have it in both obviously because that would be a waste of money. Do you all think that I should get the non-camera phone and hope that the best affordable OS6 model has a camera? Or should I go the other way around? Post your reasons with the poll.

I think you have reson to believe that OS6 Clies, even the low end ones, will have cameras.

Currently, all of Sonys PDAs (UX50, TJ37, TJ27 and TH55), whether lowend or high end, have cameras. They aren't good cameras (0.3 MP) but they are cameras.

I think that is and indication of Sony's future.

Just what I think.

none of the cameras on the pdas and cell phones are worthy of sending, except for impromptu pics or for insurance purposes. in any case, its prob better to get on the pda so you could save it to a flash card like the ms, unless u're thinking of the SE p800/900..

Heres what you should do. Get a motorola mpx100 with ms smartphone software and a camera. I would expect it to be $200-300 with a plan and be released in the spring.

I can imagine palm will release a new zire with a camera, and possibly one tungsten with one, also expect to see sony's ux, and nx replacements all with a camera and os6.

get both a camera phone and a camera pda, they just may both become the norm.

I've got a camera in both, and I don't consider it a waste at all. I have my phone with me ALL THE TIME, so I can take a picture of anything, although it looks kinda crappy. Then when I have my NX80 with me, which is most of the time, I can snap a nice 1.3megapixel picture. The advantage of the cell phone cam is I can post straight to the web with it, where I have to upload to my PC with the NX.

Yeah, they both aren't stellar quality, but it does the job for me.

Personally, I don't see a reason to not have a camera in your phone.

Yeah. Go for both...why not?

You should get to what you want to take the most pictures with.
Or both.

I also like the others above have both a camera phone, as well as the UX50 & NX70 (both CLIE with cameras). Though it takes pictures with limitations, eg. photos in the dark has de-pixelation, but least you can grab a photo of something. I mean it's not like you'll be carrying your PDA full time, there must be some certain occasions that you will not bring your CLIE to. whereas for a mobile you'll always have it with you, office hours or not. ;)

How come there aren't better cameras on Clies? It's not like they can't fit a 2-megapixel camera in a Clie body, so why don't all the new Clies have better than 0.3? Does it really cost that much more for a better PDA camera (maybe that's why NZs are still so expensive)?

Forget the cameras and get real portable PDAs and small cellphones (like a SJ30 :))
If i had to choose i would buy a pda with a cam and a cellphone without. The PDA can safe your pictures to a storage card and sync it with your desktop, cellphones also do put it is a bit more difficult.

Because I'm just 16 years old and I don't have a job yet. I can only spend so much on this.

I would go with a camera on the palm for the same reason as cenko. You can do much more with the picture from a palm, edit it, archive it, or upload it to your ftp.

That STILL IS my reaction to the NZ90!!!

little-man, what service provider do you have now? Are you going to switch depending on the phone you want, or are you going to choose from what they already offer?

I will be using verizon, because my parents are going to get a family plan. I don't really have any choice in the matter, but if I did, I'd still go with verizon.

P.S. I actually don't have a cell phone now.
