Anyone seen TH55 anywhere in Canada yet? I have only see online at SonyStyles.ca.. haven't see an actual unit in store yet
As some US stores only selling for $319 compares to Sony's $399 US.. (more than 20% off).. I just hope to see some sweet deal elsewhere soon.
BTW, Why would Sony Canada set the price to $599 CAN? $399US should be just $520 CAN now. I will be more understand if they set the price at $549. Do they keep track on the money market? Do they know it is no longer $1 CAN to $0.66 US? it's $1CAN to $0.75 US these days.

Sony canada does this to make a quick buck on us Canadians
I'd imagine futureshop will have it soon - at $599...

Some of us may give in. I'm still undecided whether or not to cancel my eCost order..
I called the Sony Store yesterday - said their stock arrived the day before and they have a display unit. I imagine it's the same for all locations.

I'll check a Sony Store in Calgary today, see what they know.

The Markville Mall location in Markham was the store I called that said they had it.
Just called the Hillcrest Mall location - they don't have it, but I can order it and they will have it in a day (!). The sales person was clueless though - I had to spell out the model number for him, including the 'PEG'.
So I was wrong about it being the same across all locations. I asked the Hillcrest Mall guy about the Eaton Centre store, and he said they might be sold out because of already having pre-orders before they had the stock in.

softech and gunhed:
Since you're in Toronto, when the TH55 is actually available, instead of going to the Eaton Centre, try some of those small electronics stores on Yonge, between Dundas and College.
Some actually have Clies on display, and they're priced a bit lower than the major chains. Some like Teletime may not have any on display, but if you talk to one of the guys who actually knows stuff, they can usually get them to the store in less than half an hour, and similarly cheap.
The last time I bought a PDA from one of these places, they basically ate the tax. It's not quite as cheap as buying online from a US e-store, but you get it right away, and it's a Canadian model.
EDIT: Once you find a couple of stores that have it, ask them about their best price and compare it to another store. 20 minutes back and forth between shops can save you more than 15% from the major chains, and on a $600 retail price, that's $90.
BTW, they might be a little less flexible for brand new (less than 2 months on market) devices, but it's worth a try. Should still be cheaper than Sony.

I just tried the Sony Store in Market Mall ( Calgary ). They said they were expecting one yesterday so "any day now". Hmmm, might just be B.S. but they're supposed to call me back when it's in so I may be cancelling my sonystyle.ca order and getting one locally.
Here's hoping!

I got mine on Monday from SonyStyle.ca. It is definitely an amazing PDA.

I called the Sony Store in Mississauga (Square One). They got them in on Monday Feb 23.
They are priced at $599 and they do NOT offer the free Docs To Go...

Richard,
When did you order your TH55 from sonystyle.ca?
I ordered mine a week ago ( as of tonight ) and am still waiting.

Does anyone know if there's at least a demo unit anywhere in Vancouver? I'm planning to try the Sony Store in Metrotown, but with all the refits going on there i'm not sure if they'd get it.
I've got to try it out before I buy...

Bionic Antboy - Thanks. It's been a while since I worked in downtown T.O., but I know those stores.
softech - If you try this, I wouldn't mind hearing how it worked out. It's pretty tough for me to get downtown these days, but if it means getting the one-up over Sony Canada and their unrealistic pricing policy, I'll do it.
er_park - As long as you can register the unit at sonystyle.ca, you can get the free DTG6 download. You don't have to have bought it directly from ss.

When I ordered the TH55, it was mentioned that the available date was Feb 29 ( a Sunday ) so I GUESS that I have to wait until early March to get the unit.
If the Sony Store here in Calgary gets one in soon, I'll just buy it and cancel my sonystyle.ca order.

I bought mine after work. I went to the Sony Store at the Eaton Centre. Played with the display unit for a while and was pretty impressed. It's still charging at this moment. Going to do some more backups on my T665C before I migrate to this one. Just to make sure everything goes well. Have to get rid of the hacks...

Also keep a watch on softmagic.ca and ncix.com.
They can be cheaper than Sony/Futureshop (especially on Palm, and not so much Clie) and you don't pay PST if you live outside of their home province (Quebec and BC respectively)
And if you are in Toronto, grab a HUB magazine (free computer rag) that has ads for computer stores and they have cheaper prices.

I've never seen the softmagic site before. Thanks for the tip (not that I'm looking for a TH55 at this point).
BTW, which bar are you in? :)

Also, etronics.com has an arrangement with Canada Post whereby all shipping/PST/GST/duties are included up front, and you know the final price (Instead of crappy UPS). And the TH55 is $400USD (comes out to 625ish all in shipped)

Just went to the Sony Store in Eaton and see the actual unit.
I would say it's a bit heavy than its look. I tried to use the internet.. but either the unit has not been probably set up or the Wireless there have not been configure probably...
Also, I was hoping they have some movie clip to view.. sad, there is none..
Also compare with the TJ-37... the biggest concern I would say is that TJ-37 does not have a cover for the camera. Also, the sales said internet on TH-55 is a lot faster (BUT.. no proof).

In case anybody is interested, the Sony Store at Square One has sold it's stock of TH55's. They still had a display unit when I last checked Feb 25.
They apparently only had 3 units to sell.

I just ordered mine from the sony store today... :) -- they have the demo model in stock, and a boatload in their warehouse, but unfortunately they sold their last one awhile before I got to the store tonight. *sigh*
Soon though... and then I get to wait for it to charge :D.

I went to Futureshop a few days ago and according to their system, they're selling the new clies for the same price as posted on sonystyle.ca, which is $450 + tax. Staples and FS employees told me that they usually get the new clies 2-3 wks AFTER sonystyle.ca get theirs.
I bought mine from Dell.com for $250 USD and just waiting for a friend in the US to ship it to me. Everything included, that's costing me $375 CDN (after conversion) which I believe is a real deal! My only problem would be for me to ship it to the States if it needs repairs.
I'm not sure that the smaller stores on Yonge St can sell it for this price.
Just wanted to share my shopping experience

No, ordering from the States is usually cheaper than even the Yonge St. stores, but they have two advantages over buying in the US.
You get a Canadian model, in case there's warranty issues (which everyone hopes they never have to make use of anyways).
No delivery wait. :)

Hi,
I was at the Sony Store in Oakridge Centre (Vancouver, BC) over the weekend. They had one display model out listing for the full $599. Apparently, there's already 3 orders and they're expecting them to arrive on this Wednesday.
I handled it and found it pleasantly satisfying. The size was notably smaller but it delivered on my NX70's capability: large screen, WiFi, camera.
