View Full Version : How to play movies on TH55?

I'm sorry, this sounds like a stupid question, but I'm now really confused...

Why is Sony's documentation so unclear?

How do I view the sample movies on the Clie? I first tried dragging the sample dolphin movie from the Clie install CD to the image converter on my desktop, then outputting it to my memory stick. I can see the movie file in the Movie Player on my Clie, but when I try to play it, I get a message that says: "Cannot play the selected movie. This format might not be supported."

So then I tried just dragging the original sample movie file (an mpg), over to the memory stick, but I can't get that to show up at all in the movie player. I've moved it around to a few different folders, but where should it be?

Also, I have a related question:

I've tried importing other movie files I have (trailers, etc.) into the Image Converter. They show up fine there, and I export them to the memory stick. But again, I get the same error.

What types of files can I convert, and what files will Image Converter not handle properly?

Also, what mpegs can the movie player view in their original format, without conversion?

Ok, I answered at least one question myself: the "High Plus Quality" mode does not work. "High Quality" and "Long Mode" do work fine.

Why doesn't "High Plus Quality" work? What device is this setting for?

I'm still curious, however, about answers to these questions:

1) what files can the movie player view in their native format, and where do they need to be stored on the memory stick?

2) What files can the Image Converter handle, and how do I get the best quality out of the transfer?

I'm having the same problem too... will someone PLEASE answer this man's question!! lol! I'm dying here! NO video I convert in High Plus Quality mode works on my TH55. It simply says "Cannot play the selected movie. This format might not be supported"... but the same video works if I use any other mode or rename the .mpg on the Memory Stick!! Are we the only two people having this problem??

I just don't think the TH-55 can handle the highest quality setting. The manual might mention this, I forget.

If that's true, that is ridiculous.

Just got off the phone with Sony and, as I feared, you were right. This is a bit upsetting for me. I was under the impression that the TH55 and the UX50 were so much alike internally..

Does this mean only UX50 can play "High Plus Quality" movie (neither TH55 nor NX73/80)? That's sad.
