Has anyone transferred from a NR70V to this NX90? I'm not sure how this works with the new OS5....I really want to transfer my Datebk5 information...need help....I don't think I can transfer the normal way..(ie, just hot sync old one and then hot sync new one with same user name)...help!?!?

i am not 100% sure but from nx70 to nz90 all i did was uninstall palm desktop, reboot, reinstall new palm desktop and it alreayd had my name there when i went to install, i then put the nz90 on the cradle synced and everything was back, it even installed old apps that i did not care about.
u don't even need to reinstall just install the new stuff and it transfers the old over

I need help on this too. I had an NR70V and have just bought an NZ90. When I try to install the Palm OS5 desktop onto the OS4, it says I have to uninstall the old one. However, after I uninstall the old one and install the new OS, all my old info is gone.\Can anyone help?

Sorry Oldster, should have been more clear, this Forum branch is for the "ClieSource > Forums > Clie NZ-series"
The originator of this post was " Jennyfer" "Senior Member".
Jennyfer posted her question which was " Has anyone transferred from a NR70V to this NX90? I'm not....."
Could be just me, but shouldn't the starter of this post, suppose to put it in "ClieSource > Forums > Clie NX-series" as the queston was directed to a NX series and not NZ with the letter X being the key part...
They have too many letters too close together, hard for me to keep them straight at times...

I think the original question was referring to the NZ90. The mistake was the letter (it's not like the NX90 exists).
Anyway, it's a moot point, let's get back to the topic at hand, upgrading NR70Vs to NZ90s...

Hmm - I'm not sure where this should be posted, but there are two major issues at work here:
1) transferring from N*** to N***; in the good old days the Palm desktop seemed to serve many different models. Now every new Sony seems to require that you uninstall and reinstall. Normally speaking this shouldn't give you any problem - your data files are not deleted and should be 'recovered' when you sync your new device.
2) moving from OS4 to OS5; this is a pain up the ****. There are still many programs that only work in OS4 or work much better in OS4 than OS5 - like Quicksheet or Smartlist

Im not exactly sure if this is what you need, but I had the same problem and somebody recommended:
1. rename your old palm folder
2. install new desktop
3. put content (inner folders with contacs etc.) from renamed folder into the new palm folder
it did work for me
is this understandable?! ;-)

Upgrading from the OS4 to OS5 operating systems require special attention. Of course if you want crashes and resets all the time, then just HotSync away...

I do it this way for NR70 to NZ90 :
1. Simply install the new Palm desktop. It will ask me to uninstall the old Palm desktop. I let it uninstall, and install the new one.
2. When ask whether to create a new user, I say YES, in order to create a new Hotsync ID for my NZ90 which should be different than that in NR70.
3. After reboot, in Palm Desktop, using the Hotsync ID of NR70, I export address/memo/date book/to do to 4 files.
4. Now switch to NZ-90 Hotsync ID, perform a hotsync with NZ90.
5. Then import back those exported files in (3). Perform a Hotsync with NZ-90.
6. For other Palm apps, I manually browse (in PC) to the backup directory of the NR-70 (found under the old Hotsync id of the Palm desktop directory), manually double click those pdb and prc of those Palm apps which I know will work in OS5. And install them to NZ-90.
7. Some other palm apps which I have moved to MS by PowerRun in NR70, I beam them directly from NR70 to NZ90.
Hope it helps.
