Hallo!

I made a backup with Sony's own Backup-Program MS Backup and tried to restore it on another Clie NX70 but it is not possible to do that.
The reason while a wanted to do this was, that I have to change my clie cause of a fault of the display mechanic.
Has anyone tried out a posibility to do this?

Tks
Erwin

Have you tried to restore from the desktop?

I once ran a combination of programs that caused a hard reset. Restoring from the memorystick failed. I had successfully restored from memory stick on an earlier occasion so I knew something else was wrong. I then proceeded to restore from the desktop and discovered that NetFront 3.0 was causing restore to fail. By going into the backup directory on the desktop I was able to delete it, restore, then reload NetFront from CD.

This I believe is not a failure, as much as the Clie will not recognize the backup from another. Heavens forbid that Sony would have you copy something...

Chien6, you'll have to backup to the Palm desktop, then hard reset the other Clie and use the same HotSync name and restore from the desktop.

Just use Clie files to copy the files to RAM.

I found a good roundabout way for solving this problem after I had to exchange a clie at BestBuy...

the problem is that the bkSetInfo file saves some kind of device ID to each folder and only allows restore from that device.

Its easier if you use MSImport to do this, but a file manager like FileZ works too.

First, Identify which folder contains the backup files you want to restore...

rename the folder to something you will remember... such as "goodbackup"

now do a normal backup on the new clie.
it will make a new folder with a number. for this example lets just call it folder "3"

the updated bkSetInfo file will now allow you to restore from any folder named "3"

name "3" something like "old" and rename the folder "goodbackup" to "3"

now it will restore all the files for you.
If you do this, make sure you delete the bkSetInfo file when you are done or you may have trouble in the future.

Hope that helps anyone.

I had to do this a few times because BestBuy gave me 3 bad clies in a row. Ine of the damaged ones even had pictures the employees at the store had taken of each other still in the memory OTB. I showed that to the manager and he did the exchange with no questions asked.

finally the 4th NX70v works perfect
