Just brought back a T665C from the US.
Is there a way to switch it to a French OS ?
Thanks
:)
I'm not sure US version of T-665 has French & German languages in its ROM (European T-675 certainly has).
Anyway, the only way to change OS language is to perform a HARD reset on the Clie (you can do that by holding the power button down and resetting at the same time then release power button last).
The Clie will then ask you if you want to erase all your data. When it starts back, it SHOULD ask you what language you want your OS to be (once again I'm not sure the T-665 proposes that in the same way the T-675 does)

Just wondering if you can upload the ROM from a 675 Clie?
get a JackSprat backup of a T675C, and then restore it to your T665C with JackFlash,
anyone know if this would work?
I am also assuming that you have 8MB Flash ROM built in? otherwise forget it as the T675C has 8MB, don't know if the US version came with the same amount of ROM?

I was looking for this post because I remembered that some software might do what you need.
Go to this link:
http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=45572
It costs $15 but it's probaly worth it. I know it changes all the application names, keyboard and other OS related things to French. It can also be stored in Flash ROM so it sort of becomes your default OS.
It may not be the "real" French version of the Palm OS, but it is as close as I can find.
Tell me if this helps.

This program doesn't seem available for the T665C
I have contacted the tech support.
Thanks for the info

Did you try the demo version? The listing says "any Palm OS Hardware"

Are you sure?
Try it out, it looks like it should work with a T665c.

I just received the answer from the tech support:
>Unfortunately, the French ROM is bigger than the US model
>has Flash space for.
>Sorry,
>Brad.
I replied asking what about removing useless appls from the ROM and increase available flash space.

The size of the French ROM has nothing to do with the program linked above working on a US Palm OS device. It is designed to convert the English menus etc to French language.

No I understand that you want to be able to store it in the ROM of the Clie so it will become the default OS.
They told you it is not possiable but try searching for JackSprat at palmgear.com
It allows you to remove default OS applications.
However if you want you can just make it part of RAM.

What you need is for someone with the Eu version (T675C) to do a full backup, then set their Clie up in French mode and using JackSprat delete all other languages and then back the ROM up again (making sure they don't overwrite the original) they will obviously have to restore their own system with the full backup they did for themselves first,
the ROM they stripped the extra languages out of should now be small enough for you to Flash into yours using JackFlash.

The T665 has only 4 Meg's of ROM and won't have enough space with JackFlash and JackSprat (check out the Beta versions on the website... they are awesome). However, that will give you ROM memory that you can use for certain programs and give you more space ultimately. So, it will be worth it in that sense. I was only able to get just about 2 Meg's of ROM. I will look and see what else I can do to get a bit more of space. Any thoughts or experiences that might help me out there???
