Hello everyone!

I just got my super wonderful NX-80 (we're still at that stage) and I have some Qs. *Forgive me if the following questions make me sound so much like a neophyte (although I am) - this is my very first PDA.

I installed a bunch of apps on my PDA and want to move some of them instead to my CF card (plus I also want to get rid of useless apps I installed). I have figured out which apps I want actually installed in my handheld and which ones I want on my CF card/memory stick. So i figured, hey, why don't I start fresh (especially since all I've done is load a bunch of stuff/crap)?

My questions are: Is hard reset similar to "formatting" a hard drive? Will doing this clean out my PDA and leave only apps Sony preloaded? Will soft/warm reset suffice? Will any of these be harmful to my precious PDA (since the reset would be made not out of necessity)? And, what is the easiest way to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Joy

A hard reset will not delete ROM apps that come pre-installed with the device. It will only wipe anything else you stick on your clie. It's almost like reformatting a hard disk, except this time you keep the apps that originally came with it.

EDIT: Question for others: A hard reset wipes the hotsync ID info right?

Yep, it deletes your hotsyinc info too.

You clie will be like factory settings new, and will not harm it in anyway, so you need to check in your computer when you re-hotsync it again if you want your same syncID, then you should erase it first from the Palm Desktop, because if you chose the one you already have in the desktop, you'll get the same stuff you had before the reset.

as a side note -- try "uninstalling" software such as uninstall manager. works great!

Thanks! You guys are so great! I'm going to go ahead check my manual tonight and do a hard reset to get my PDA squeaky clean (well as much as Sony would let me) and start from there.

'til next time,
JOY :)

If you have synced after loading programs, your first sync after the hard reset will load everything back. (if you use the same user name)

so what's the best way to return to a "clean slate" both on the pda and the pc?

a hard reset and also set in the palmdesktop to 'palm override desktop".
