View Full Version : CC pricematched BB order for 319

I left a message in the CC in stock thread about getting the manager of my local CC to pricematch my BB order for 319. He agreed and I cancelled by BB order (and I have it before March). I would not have bought it for 80 dollars more, so they got my sale and BB lost one. I like the CC no hassle return policy anyways. Cheers to CC!

Just be patient and nice. I honestly also think that they were very busy at the time. He was still very nice.

Forgot to mention that the BB is just down the street from this CC, so they are in direct competition, even though it was an online purchase.

In the homepage of CC, it costs $359 and someone post a coupon code for $20 discount. How can I buy TH55 at 319? PLease advise.

Wasn't that price the Dell offer. I think cc was 399.

I've never done any price-match before but I will defintely try this online. Thanks for this tip!

Sorry , it should be Dell, by the way, would you post a link to buy TH55 at $319 in CC or BB or whatever. Thanks.

$319 deal on BB is no longer available..

bluguru
02-20-2004, 07:56 PM
Sorry, that price was from when bb offered it preorder last week. They have since changed the price back to 399. A bunch of us ordered upon the news. This will only work for those who ordered it at the 319 price, but are sick of waiting. You could try ecost for 339, but cc typically does not pricematch websites. They pricematched bb because it is their brick and mortar competition...I guess. Ecost does not have them in stock though and charges a handling fee of around 10 dollars.

Thanks for your advise. Maybe I will go to Dell @339.99. Hope it will ship to me on time.

right on bluguru, smart move.

i got my TH55 today also from CircuitCity and i ordered it from my Chase MasterCard and it got 60days price match plan, so i plan to call my MasterCard and have them match the price and credit me back the difference. I hope the TH55 price will drop more than $100 during next month or so..

KPZerone
02-20-2004, 11:07 PM
Hey UZ,

what plan exactly are you mentioning here? I have Chase Platinum Mastercard and called them about 60 days price match plan but they have no idea about it..

All I have is 90 days protection against damage or theft.

Can you help out here?

Also, I got price-matched at CC too!

Thanks for the tip!!

its a Chase Universal Master Card. goto chase web site, they have like 10 different Credit Card now and each of them have their own benefits.

Since u said u only got the Pentium Card, i dont think it got any special Cash or rebetes or Air mile or Gas reward back.

02-20-2004, 11:38 PM
btw, its insteresting that Chase would gave me $10,000 credit limit while my Capital One would only give me $250, its almost LOL but Captial one helped me alot by helping me build up my credit history in the beginning by reporting my account activities to all three credit agencies.

I love it when i see my credit report and CapitalOne keep saying my account is Paid as agreed :D

Screw credit cards. I just paid then all off. Only thing now is the car. All new toy's to be paid in cash :). Still patiently wainting for the 55 to arrive.

I do get the travel benefits and I already have accumulated enough for roundtrip to anywhere in the world :-)

It's always wise to use creditcard if you can pay off everything at the end of the month and enjoy all the benefits. I especially like Sony Card but somehow CC rejected mine for some weird reason I do not know..

Thanks bluguru for starting this thread!! I never would have thought that the CC B&M store would price-match the BB.com order. Yesterday when I saw this thread, I checked the CC stock near me, and no one had it in stock. I tried again this afternoon, a nearby CC had one, I went there, and sure enough, they price-matched for me as well!! Woo hoo!! It's charging as I type.

Just tried the same thing at my local CC and they refused to pricematch my BB on the basis that it was a pre-order price. I guess it's not a company wide policy one way or another. Apparently your mileage will vary...I'm still waiting I guess...:(

BDiddy404
02-21-2004, 03:03 PM
Yeah PCMaven, I think it does vary store to store. Do you have any other stores around...personally I went up to the customer service counter where people are "less" in the know about PDAs in general. Such as how it is brand new and $319 is a ridiculous price at this point, the customer service lady just looked it up said it was in stock and gave it to me.

I went to the PDA counter and the salesguy called his manager on the phone. Manager said no way so I left. I dunno, maybe Mgrs. got the word here in NJ not to pricematch a pre-order price?

Blueguru, Thank You!!!

OK, just got back from CC and they were great. They price matched with little hesitation and had the TH55 in stock. Matter of fact, they didn't even know what it was and had no idea it was there.

I proceded to give them a quick run down on the features of the device, which they appreciated, and I attribute to this Forum and all that have shared over the last few weeks, Thank You All.

I then went directly to the Office and called BB and canceled my order and put my spiffy new TH55 on charge, it should be done by the time that I finish my few hours of extra work.

Here is how it all shook out:

BB; $319.99 TH55+$4.62 shipping=$20.00 tax=$344.61

CC; $311.99 TH55+$20.28 tax=332.27 out the door now and no more wait, He He:D

Not only did CC honor the Price Match, they cut a little off to make it even sweeter.:D:eek::D

I will post my first impressions of the TH55 tomorrow, in the appropriate Thread, of course.:p

You have got to love the power of online communities like this, I would have never known about any of this with out your help.

Again, THANK YOU ALL for your continued help in making my life a little easier and fun.

And for those of your that didn't get the smae result, try a different store and try telling them thatt the only reason that you didn't come to them in the first place was the price. If they would have had the price $80 less, like BB, you would have done business with them way before going to BB, it worked for me, the Manager got a huge smile on his face when I said that.

OH YA!! CC Return policy, 14 Days, just like BB, but NO RESTOCKING FEE, another potential savings!! This justs keeps getting better and better!!

Kwik!! Some one pinch me, I might be dreaming!!

Now off to work while humming a snappy little tune.:D

well KPZerone, it is always smart to use Credit Card first and then pay later. CitiBank have an Credit Card that earn double Air Miles per very dollar u spent and it got no pre-set limits, i think chase have an card like that also.

I preordered the SJ33 like a year ago or more and then it got stolen, so i called up my Credit Card and they credit me back the full price :D

uz50
02-21-2004, 03:34 PM
oh btw... I applied for the Circuit City Card also and for some reason they turned me down also. they said its cuz i tried to apply too many cards in the last 90days.

anyway, i probably will get one of their pre-approved offers in the mail in the next few weeks.

some of the store Credit cards is really great, offering like no payment for 12month, its sweet, i tell u, S W E E T.!! :D

This process has been sweet all the way around. I can't believe BB posted a $319 price to begin with. And I really can't believe someone price-matched that, especially a B&M matching an online store!! Just unbelievable!! But I'll definitely take it.

Now I just hope I like this better than my NX80 and don't want to return it. :)

I just got back from my local (West Oaks) CC...I had to convince the sales guy that they had them in stock.  He had to walk back to the truck and pull the thing off. ;)

After a short talk with him, and then the sales manager I walked out of the store spending $346 total.  They price matched it on the spot and I saved $10 in expedited handling. :D

If anyone else is going to try getting their TH-55 early, I'd suggest walking in with a copy of the receipt from your preorder.  I'd also play up how badly you'd rather buy from CC then the big yellow beast...I think it helps.

Good luck!

Now off to apply a screen protector and plug it in for 4-5 hours.

I really doubt it. :(  I don't think there is any way to prove the BB pre-order price without having pre-ordered and gotten a receipt.

You could maybe get the eCost $339 price if you printed out a shopping cart screen.  It's iffy though.  In fact I was surprised they honored the BB price.  The store I called last night wouldn't do it.  Others in this forum have said their local stores won't do it either.  I think I was just lucky to get a good manager and a really good store.

I just picked up the last th55 at the Novi, MI CC. They price matched, and the out-the-door price was $330.71 -- about $9 cheaper than BB. They didn't give me a hard time whatsoever--I just showed them the printed confirmation from BB.

Thanks to everyone who posted about CC price matching!

Thanks a lot Best Buy for offering that price in the first place! So much for the people who were saying "screw BB." :D :D :D

Who did you guys talk to to get your price match? I tried calling, and I guess I probably talked to a guy in hardware, and probably not customer service. My local CC is a bit hard to get to, but it might be worth going out to. All I need is the printout of the preorder?

After reading CC price matching from this thread, I went to a local CC (Livingston, NJ) with a print out of the BB pre-order receipt. They easily matched BB's pre-order price ($319). It was straight forward without any hassle. In addition, they discounted additional 10%. The final price was ~$311 + 6% tax. (They also priced matched CompUSA's netgear 802.11b router including rebate (original $69, $20 sale + $20 rebate - I paied total $24 for the router). I am going to cancel my BB preorder. I didn't open the box yet but I have no doubt the thing in the box is defintely a keep (I will not have any complains because I have been using a stone age pda, Palm Vx. I have been waiting a pda like th55).

BTW, I have been following discussions posted in this forum and enjoyed a lot - I have been just a onlooker so far, but I couldn't keep silent today, especially after getting th55 at a deal price. Thanks cliesource!!

Add me as another convert to Circuit City! After reading this thread, I got on the phone to CC. The first location said no, but the second location said yes, bring in my BB confirmation and they'd match it.

I didn't ask for it, but they also knocked the price down to 311.99. I picked up some Fellows screen protectors while I was there, which I also got for 50% off, at $9.99. So with tax of $16.10, my total from CC was 338.08.

Pretty good considering my BB pre-order total for the TH55 *alone* was $335.99. Which I just cancelled.

It's sitting here charging as I type. I can't wait to play!

Circuitcity honored my pre-order no questions asked, the girl at the service counter actually joked around with the sales guy that asked if Circuitcity would pricematch BestBuy, "No we don't compete with bestbuy anymore" scared me at first, guess CircuitCity employees are trained in the fine art of sarcasm. Oh and this things is awesome, its killing me waiting for it to charge.

Yeah, I just called CC again, and this time talked to a lady who's in the customer service department (not sure where the guy I talked to previously worked), and she said she'd honor it using "Pricematch Plus". So I wrote down the times she worked and I'm going to make the inconvenient trip over. She better not decline me after going through all this work...

Price Match is great aint it, boys and girls :D

i start using the Price Match offers like a year ago when i notice my new Credit Card have this little thing called 60days price match benefits and i start using it ever since.

i just hope my TH55 price would drop $100 or more in the next 59days or so, so my Credit Card would price match it and credit me back the difference :D

My local CircuitCity wouldn't pricematch my BestBuy preorder. They said it was because the current price on BB is $399. I thought that was weak, but that's what the manager said.

I guess I'll have to wait patiently. Well, wait anyway. :)

That's basically what they told me yesterday. They said they wouldn't match a pre-order price. I'm going to call a different Circuit City after they open at 11AM though and see if I can make something happen. If not, I'll just wait until Best Buy finally decides to ship.

many places would not only match the price but give a 10% discount of the difference, so ($399.99-$319.99)*10% discount = $8 => $311.99

Just got back from a different CC than my local one and they pricematched my BB receipt + my original 2nd day shipping charges. I don't know why they did that but I wasn't about to argue for $4 and change. Bottom line is that final cost came out to $1 less than my original BB charges. New TH-55 is now sitting in my old T-665 charger charging away...Gonna be a looong 5 hours...:(

Thanks for your post Griff.  I went to that West Oaks CC and asked the manager in Customer Service department, Michael, this morning when the store was just open.  He said that TH55 was selling like hot cakes.  They came 5 pm yesterday and now they have 2 left.  I showed him my $320 offer from BB.  He tried to sell me for $339.99, but I said, that's not what my friend got from you yesterday.  Then he let me buy at $319.99 + tax, which ended up to be about $346.39.  Not bad for spending $6 more than BB preorder but getting it 2 weeks early. :D

He also said that he knew BB across the street was out of them as 2 guys just came by from BB yesterday to look for TH55 and ended up buying them there at CC.  By the time I left the store it was only one left.  It is probably gone by now.

My next step is to cancel my BB preorder. ;)

After reading all the post of people picking them up at CC at BB price I become insanely impatient. Why should I wait another couple weeks when I can get it now. So I went to CC showed them the reciept they gave me the TH-55 at BB price. It just took the service rep asking the manager twice. Here she sits charging beside me. It's very dificult not to turn it on, and I've read the manual twice already. I should probaly just take a nap and when I awake she'll be ready.

Good for you. BB is gonna wind up getting screwed on this. There is still 11 days before BB release. How many people do you think will follow this route, now that it only makes sense to do it this way. I'm thinking they probably screwed up the release date, who knows. According to BestBuy customer service 3/4 was the release date that Sony gave them. Maybe Sony doesn't like BestBuy??? Seems kind of strange that BestBuy has a release date of 3/4 when CC already has the TH55 in stock and CompUSA is claiming to get them either on the 23rd or the 24th...All BestBuy has done is make more business for CC (although at a much lower price than CC would like I'm sure)...

btw the TH55 is almost the perfect PDA, I played with it for a while and eventhough its not as fast as the NXs, its VERY small compared to the bricks (NXs, NZ), looks very sleek and feels well balanced. the cover ROCKS its way better than I thought!!

I have 5 CCs within 20miles radius and I've been to three and two refused. They just simply won't budge. They say BB does not offer the price anymore and they dont have TH55 in stock so they can't honor that.

I was able to persuade one but still at 339, not 319.

Glad I could help...funny thing is Mike was the guy I spoke with yesterday, the sales manager.

I'm guessing that $319 is cost on these things and that BB either made a mistake or wanted to do volume sales.  I'd bet getting these from CC at that price isn't helping them a bit.

Many thanks to bluguru for starting this thread!

After playing with the TH55 at a CC yesterday (sans receipt), I returned today. The first person I spoke to who was the assistant manager said they only match "current" prices & naturally BB's is presently at $399.

Since I had met the manager yesterday & complimented her on how helpful her employee (the one who opened the TH55 box to show me the unit) was, I asked if she was still there. I was in luck, she was in the process of leaving but had not quite left. She said, "Sure!" When the salesman rang it up, they charged the BB price + tax. I said that the manager (who had left by that time) said they'd price match. Armed with my print outs about price matching from CC, he said fine. I purchased the unit for $311 plus tax! Plus I have it now.

A bit over four hours to go in the charging process so I won't really get to use it until tomorrow.

So my advice, it's worth trying. Go in person especially if you've previously met/spoken to people in the store. Bring your print out from BB as well as pages from this thread. Every bit helps!

Hehe. I've only got the CC manager to pricematch it down to 359 plus tax. I told him I'd plan on getting the 2 year service plan too if he could bring it lower. Unfortunately, he said it wasn't possible.

Well, at least I got one more place to go before I just wait till my BB order comes. Actually, if I do get it from BB and price matched at CC, I'll probably keep one and sell the other one on ebay for some profit.

I had a chance to play with the th55 and it is awesome! I was surprised and delighted at how smaller it was than my n760. It was lighter too!

The only thing that bothered me was the 4th hard button (which I plan on re-mapping somehow) and how dim the screen was compared to my n760. Hmm, maybe I didn't adjust the brightness all the way, but I also noticed that switching to the clie organizer had a slight delay. I was hoping for instantaneous response similiar to the T3. Oh well, I'm very happy to have actually played with it!

PC,

Which CC did you go to? I tried the one in East Brunswick with no luck ...

Thanks,

It was a tossup for me between Woodbridge and East Brunswick. Figured I'd just make a decision and live with it. I live near the Somerville store but they wouldn't do it. Woodbridge was where I got the deal. Good Luck!

The first person to try this was brilliant. Worked for me on Saturday, in Santa Barbara, CA, with no hassle whatsoever. So I got the Best Buy price minus and additional 10%, then came home to cancel my Best Buy order. From the looks of the Best Buy thread, this happened just in time!

I wouldn't have thought of trying this--I have ClieSource to thank for my new Clie, though!

I just got back from CC, since I wasn't able to make it Saturday (they didn't have any in stock), and I overslept on Sunday.

I talk to the girl, who is about 20, 21, about my age, and she tells me, sure, we'll pricematch it. So I get my hopes up. She calls over someone from PDA/Wireless, and asks for a PEG-TH55. Then she tells me, you'll be off in a couple, but you'll need to do some paperwork first.

The customer rep who was helping me goes to the Best Buy website, but can't find the "PEG-TH55" PDA. She then whispers kind of, it doesnt matter, whatever. I tell her to type it in, without spaces, and she finally gets it online.

Then a lady next to me comes with her daughter to return her phone. Apparently the manager is called for the price-protection policy, and *suddenly* my customer service rep tells the manager about my pricematch request. THe manager looks at my receipt from Best Buy, and she says they can't order it because:

1. THe order is not in stock at Bestbuy.com
2. The order was placed a week ago
3. The order on the Best Buy site needs to be syncronized to CC's database at the time of the price-match request.

She asks again, if there were any promotions or coupons/rebates, and I say no. So the manager then tells me (who is a young girl, about 27-28) that they can't offer me the pricematch request.

My rep asks me if I still want it. I ask her at what price-she tells me 399. I then tell her, no thanks, pick up my receipt, and leave.

if any of you live in NJ, this was the CC in Wayne, New Jersey, on RT-46. Whatever you do, avoid these people.

Whoa, is somebody else from Santa Barbara? Cuz that's my hometown. =D

I'm going to the Somerville CC on Wednesday. I talked to a customer service rep named Sherri, and I made her promise me that if I made the journey out there, they'd price match. So, let's see what happens.

Just picked up TH55 at CC in Springfield VA. They price matched my BB pre-order of $319.99 + $14.40 (tax) = $334.39.

They also gave me the $8.00 off on top for $311.99 + $14.04 = $326.03.

My TH55 is charging. Better price and I do not have to wait or risk a cancellation by BB.

Thanks you bluguru.

new details:

I just got back from Livingston, New Jersey. I went in about 8:52pm, and they were vaccuming and just about to get ready to close.

I gave it to this young man with long, grunge hair, and he showed it to his manager. My dad and I waited for close to 4-5 minutes, when the manager comes to tell us he cannot offer us the price.

Apparently the manager told us that Best Buy's online website lists $399.99, he cannot offer the price of my receipt. What intrigues me is that even if I came the day when it was still on the BB website CC, they wouldn't have had it in stock anyway at CC!

Theres no point in argueing anymore-if I get it via BB, good. If I get overcharged, they'll hear from Consumer Affiairs, BB, and most of all, I will give them negative review to anything they sell!

Does cc pricematch to DELL's offer ($359)?

Thanks.

No, they wont pricematch anything that is from the internet, unless it is an actual retailer, like Best Buy, Compusa, J&R, PC Richards, etc.

Actually I just saw DELL has a local store in Houston area which is called "Dell Direct Store". I am wondering whether it belongs to one of "local retail stores".

Hi Guys,

If Best Buy is screwing you over with the deal. How about sharing the 10% off online code with the rest of us.....that way at lwast Best Buy will not gain profits from this deal!!

hehe he
Yes I am trying to cash in on the deal cuz I missed the fab price of $319

sincerely

The 10% thing isn't a code - it's apparently tied to each account and shows up by magic when you log into it, so unless someone ordered something for you, it wouldn't work.

Stopped into the local CompUSA today (they are the only ones in Utah with the TH55 so far - just came in) and chatted with an asst. manager. Told him about the Best Buy fiasco & showed him my printout. He then logged onto BestBuy.com and saw the current price - then said he'd help me out and sell it to me for $349.95. I took him up on it and it's charging as I type :)

Cheers, Rich

Woohoo! CC pricematched me after I worked hard (via the phone, etc.) and travelled far to get it. They have my vote of confidence, and thanks to BestBuy for screwing me over and saving me $10, and 10%!

CC pricematched even though it was ordered from BestBuy.com?

What about their local store policy?

Can someone share their receipt? I'd like to give this a shot!

E-cost still has the TH-55 for $339. I'll take that price match as well. Will Circuit City match this?

If you're happy with $339 from e-cost why don't you just order from them instead of trying to dishonestly use someone else's BB receipt? By the way, the BB receipt has the buyers name and address on it. I sincerely doubt if CC in Wisconsin (for example) would honor a receipt from NJ (for example) without asking a lot of questions...Honesty really does work.

I got CC in Lawrencville NJ to pricematch my BB preorder for $319. I didn't know about BB cancelling orders until after I got home and read this forum. They almost didn't do it because when they called BB, they were told they are out of stock. but since I called ahead, they still pricematched it.

I'll make it up to CC when I buy my HiDef TV from them this summer.
