Hello all, I need to tap into your wealth of information regarding dual clies..... I have an NR70 and just purchased a NX80V which I have not yet attached the cradle to my pc because I am not sure what the conflict situation could be.. Do any of you have more than one clie and sync both of your clies on the same pc? Will I be able to run 2 different versions of palm desktop? If someone could be of assistance I would very much appreciate it.. I do have more than one PC, but I would like to have both of my clies on same pc. Thank you in advance.
And CHEERS!:)

I have three sony pda's, and three computers that I use. I really only use two of the PDA's.
Each has its own name, and I just use the newest Palm desktop, and everything works except E-mail. No matter how I set it up it seems the desktop wins.
-after a crash and hard reset I might end up with double memos or double appiontments in datebook, but this is because I do not take the time to change sync settings after the crash. (only some entries will be doulbled)

So can you, or can you not, use 2 pda's with one computer, and different versions of Palm desktop? (NR - PalmOS4, NX - PalmOS5)
and still be able to sync everything up ok? TIA

I have palm desktop installed, but sync to Outlook. Multiple PDA work fine on the same PC. Just make sure they have different names.
Each time I got a new PDA I installed the new plam desktop. So recently I had the desktop that came with my SJ33 installed, and then installed the version that came with my NX80. The SJ still works fine. However I could not sync the NX on one of my computers that still had the SJ version desktop. Seems to me that the OS4 device works fine with the OS5 software, but not the other way.

I run a T665 and a NX70 on the same PC without problems. I had to figure out which Palm desktop overwrote the other(the NX70 overwrote some of the T665 files) but other than that they work fine. Basically if I installed the NX first and then the 665, the NX wouldn't sync. But the other way around works fine. Also, I have XP and have multiple users setup. My wife syncs her 665 with her desktop and I sync my NX with mine. The only other problem occurred when one of us forgets to log off and the other tries to sync. Then the PC would get confused and bluescreen. But yes, we could sync 2 Clies to the same PC(just as long as we remembered to log off before sync).

I've had multiple PDA's attached to my laptop. The Desktop software was able to distinguish them separately, but it was a nuisance every time I wanted to install a palm app having to choose which profile to use.
One click, multiplied a thousand times, produces lost hours of your life. So, I finally migrated the lesser PDA to another computer and uninstalled it from my laptop. Now I only have one, and my apps, sync'ing, etc all run smoother.
On my deathbed, when I want to use my last breath to tell where I buried all my treasure... I know I will have the time I need, now that I've eliminated the needless, aggregate clicking of multiple Palm profiles.

Thanks for more info on this guys. I currently have my NR70 setup on my pc, Still havent hooked up the cradle to the NX80 yet but I should be able to just install the NX80 then right Cerberus? then by loading the newer version of palm desktop, will overwrite all my existing addresses, Datebook, and memo stuff that is in the current version of Palm desktop for my NR? Thanks again
Cheers

This is what I did. I recently migrated from a T665C to a NX80V. I first made a backup my 'backup' file, so that I needed it later I would have it. I then proceeded to install the Palm Desktop on the NX80V cd over my existing Palm Desktop. I then used Sony's Migration tool. I can't remember exactly, but I think it asks if you want to overwrite your existing data. I was first hesitant but clicked on 'Yes'. I think it then asked if I wanted to use my original user name or create a new one. I chose the former. The Migration Tool (I think) then automatically changed my original name. The new username that was created was "Username01" or something like that. I can't remember because the computer I hotsync with is at home and I'm replying here at work. So, in the end my PIM info from my T665C transferred to my NX80V. There are now 2 profiles in Palm Desktop - "Username" for my NX80V and "Username01" for the T665C. I believe the migration tool only transfers PIM data (i.e. Datebook, ToDo, etc.) from your old handheld. I then installed applications separately in order to avoid hard resets.
Hope this makes sense.

You shouldn't have a lot of trouble installing. I would probably do like flipcap suggested and make a new username for your nex NX. That way, your NR will still have its old stuff. You can just go to the backup or archive directory and transfer your NR databases(memo pad, contacts, etc) to your newly created NX directory and sync. Then you should have a copy on your new NX.

You don't even need to change your username. Keep your username using the Clie Migration Tool and the PIM data from your NR70 will transfer to the NX80V. You will still have your NR70 data there but the Migration tool will change its user name.
