Circuit City on line shows the TH 55 in stock. I haven't been to the store yet, maybe tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was laid off last week so I can't buy it yet :<.

The website lists them, but I don't see them in any locations near me (washington state). But hey, they weren't even listed on the website yesterday. Very soon....

Off topic-so much for my tax refund: $700 :<.

I just checked Circuit City.com and according to the website, my local store has them in stock. Those who want it NOW may want to check it out. If you can wait, Dell.com can get it to you for $359.99.
I WISH I HAD MONEY!!! :<

yup, I was just at the old orchard CC store (near chicago) and they had 4 of the 55, 37 and 27... damn near bought one to play with it
I just picked up my TH55 at my local CircuitCity store and then i called up my Chase MasterCard about my free 90days price protection plan.
I will just wait a little longer and if the price drop more than $100 in the next 80days or so, i would probably keep my TH55, if not, i will just return it for a full refund :D

What you're doing is dishonest, to say the least. Is it any wonder that Best Buy is getting out of the PDA business with people like this?
I'm sure you know that CC can't sell the unit at the full retail price, so you are costing them money. People like you raise the costs for everyone else. If you don't want to pay $400, why not just wait for a price drop?

I agree completely. I had a friend that woudl constantly buy things, and almost every one of them went back to the store after a short while. I think it's rediculous - doing things that way ends up driving prices for me in the long run. I'm not against returning things to the store, but buying it with the knowledge you're goign to take it back? I don't think so.

I know a guy who intentionally breaks things and then returns them on the service plan. He wanted a new cell phone, so he put his old one in a glass of water overnight. Then he dried it out and returned it to Best Buy and picked up the latest camera phone.

My brother-in-law is not very kind to his things, and they often end up broken in one way or another. He has a habit of either buying the same item, or a close upgrade, and then returning the old one in the box for the full refund of the price of the new one.

How about getting one from CircuitCity today and return the one you get from BestBuy or Dell when it arrives. This way, at least Circuit City won't get loss other than lost sales, but that's because of its high price.

That is an interesting idea unreg...but I'd have problems doing that. While no one gets hurt I still see something wrong with it. Plus I think CC would record the serial number of the unit they're selling so they'd likely not take back the one from BB as it'd have a different number.

Well I dont' think it's dishonest and I just did that! I have my preorder from eCost and just stopped by my local Circuit City and picked up a new unit and am playing with it now!
Then when my eCost order finally arrives, I'll just return the brand new unit to the store. That means I'm returning a completely unopened, brand new unit that they can fully restock and sell. I don't see anything dishonest with that.
Anyway, it's how you get your preorder now! The guy at my CC said I was the first one to buy it from them. And they only had five in stock.

Did they scan the serial number into the system?

Uhm...folks, did you ask them if they will price match ? Probably not ecost, but I got the manager to price match my Best buy order (from my online order printout). I then canceled by BestBuy order. I prefer CC any day over BB. Something about no hassle returns that consumers should demand, but not abuse. Cheers to CC and they made a sale. Two left here now.

I went to a CC near my office in the Philadelphia suburbs and they had the TH55 in stock and ready to sell. I have preordered from BB on 2/11. I was able to use the TH55 and give it a pretty good workout. It looks and feels great. If the WiFi works as advertised, this is one hot product. The camera took a very acceptable picture.
Actually my Chase MasterCard have 60day price match insurance, and from anything within these 60days i see the TH55 at lower price anywhere, chase will price match it and credit me back the difference.
anyway...CircuitCity have something like 30days price match plan also and if you buy anything from CC and see a lower price any where, CC will credit u back the difference.
the TH55 is really cool and useful for surfing the web. :D
i hope the price of TH55 will drop more than $100 in the next month or so, so my Chase Card would Price Match it and credit me back the difference :D

The receipt does not show a serial number so I'm unsure if they scanned the number. They just scanned the UPC code to get the price. I assume the UPC code is the same for all TH55's. So in that case no they didn't scan it.
Do you think if I brought in a printout of my eCost receipt they would match that? I didn't think of that, I was just too excited to get one in my hands.

I have 2 local CC's (15 min in opposite directions). Only 1 of the 2 had them listed in stock on the web and it seems CC only got about 4 or 5 per store. I went to mine at 10:30am and waited about 5 min. for them to finish unloading the truck it was on. They were just dragging the daily floor stock out of todays truck and they now only have 3 left. It is charging as I type and so begins the continued marketing hype.
They (CC or BB) do not scan S/N's (only UPC codes) UNLESS you buy an extended war. then they all scan the S/N as a way to track/prove you have paid for the ext. war. on that item. Since I'm careful and I leap frog PDA's faster than they seem to wear out/break it's pointless for me to get one. I also don't like/agree with/or condone the practice of breaking one on purpose to get the newer one free.........but I will take the brand new, un-opened one, that I get from Dell at $60 less, back to CC for a refund of their $399 price. I see nothing wrong with that since it's never opened and I know there will plenty of people who will want one and won't mind the price, so it will resell very fast. Once these really hit the stores, all these early-discounts will calm down and things will pretty much get back (or closer) to the regular price. Remember CC has a web site too, so they should be competitive on that front as well, and they almost never are.
CC, BB, and every one else is paying far less than $399 a pop for them. They will still come out ahead too, as there is a very small percentage of consumers (innovators) that will buy a new product even before it's on the market mainstream.
Most of this is a pre-release marketing hype plan to get us innovative buyers to snap them up early in a feeding frenzy so we can brag about them and show them off to everyone else. The more mainstream target market will wait to see/read a few reviews and then the laggers will wait even longer till the model gets closeout type discounts. This has a marketing payoff 10 fold or more for Sony to what the massive dump/flood the market at once would get them, so they too will more than recoup any losses with these deeper pre/very early-release discounts. This will also help BB, CC and everyone else sell far more at full/near retail when the real dump/flood wave hits because we will test market early and help feed the hype.
Sooo... you see.....everyone wins. Think of us as advanced R&D market testers who help hype the "real" wave/sales of this product to hit the shelves and "every" successful marketing plan/consumer goods company needs us.

The cost of handling these units will add to the expense in the future. CompUSA builds in their reciepts that if the product is opened and returned without exchange - 15% restocking charge. They still sell alot of merchandise even though I think this is an improper policy and in California it's being challenged as being legal because there are state policies that allow a consumer to return a product within 3 days if "buyer's remorse" caused them to rethink their position. The handling charge is the only question but since they print it on their receipt - they are getting away with it for now.

here's how it works -- the upc code on the box has the unit serial number scanned in it. when you return something, if the person at the counter does it right -- then they will know if you switched the actual unit, which by the way is dishonest. if you don't agree and do get away with it, then its a free world anyway.

Several CCs around me show the th55 in stock, some adding it just this morning. Has anyone actually been able to see one on display? I wonder how many days/weeks before they get around to displaying these babies. If they're only getting per store, they probably don't even need to display them now. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

my experience with CC and new models is this -- i saw new models in the cage underneath, but no display models. i simply asked a sales rep, and he opened a box, and showed it me. even let me plug in the charger (which is kind of stupid because it needs the first minimum charge), but anyway, i would see and touch it, and this gets the ball rolling for a few hours later when it was fully charged up.

Hey new reg here, I just got my TH-55 from CC. Charging now. I actually preordered from BB and then went up to CC B&M like others have. I asked if they could price match and they did. The lady even gave me an additional 10%, making it a sweet deal. Others may not have the same luck, but it is worth the try if you go in on the BB, $319 deal. Cancelling BB order as we speak.

Concerning display models. My CC did not have it on display but listed it in-stock on their website as I mentioned earlier. I then went to the sales person in that dept., and he actually had the display unit in his pocket! He said he's been busy all day working and also playing with the unit, he didn't get around to locking it up and putting it out on display. Anyway, if you look below the displays, you'll see the boxes for all of their PDAs there so that's a good indicator.

The CC I just got mine at (Novi, MI) had literally received their shipment within the past hour, so the display model wasn't out yet. In fact, they still had all of them plus a few other models in this shipping crate on the floor in the PDA section, so they weren't even in the cage yet.
