I bought my clie online in september. I asked bestbuy about returning or exchanging it mine. They asked if I had a service plan I had no idea what that even was . I went home to see if it is in the box that came with my SJ30 and found nothing. Then it hit me that i was never even offered a service so now i am stuck with my SJ30. And i dont even know what a service plan is. I hate Best Buy. But its the only place i can get decent electronics at decent prices. I tried calling there customer support line and they wanted me to wait 15 minutes "estimated"
Now that i got that out. When i was in bestbuy yesterday i was eaves dropping on the pda guy with a customer and the pda guy said that the zire and M130 were the best pdas to buy. It was so funny. The guy even said he wanted a sony and didn't care the price. But come on the Zire! Lol

Maybe they should have offered you the extended warranty, but I don't think they have to. But if you don't have the extended warranty, I don't think there is anything the can do. They just don't take in old models in exchange like a car dealership. I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just trying to understand both positions.
As for bestbuy employees. Many of them say things that don't make sense. That's alright with me. As long as us consumers know what we want and what we are doing, I don't worry if they tell me a pink elephant will come out of my clie! Not all BB employees are this way, but in my experiences, many are. I'm glad that there a few good ones at my local store!

I'm really confused. Best Buy is ripping you off because they didn't presure the service plan on you? And now you want to do an "exchange" but relized that you can't rip Best Buy off because you don't have the service plan? Intresting, at first I thought this was going to be another "I bought the service plan and they told me I could exchange it for a newer model later on, but they won't let me" thread.

If it has a legit problem covered under warranty, they will replace it for you, same model only unless no-longer carried, then you can talk to Sony. You also need your reciept, and legit means: NO BROKEN SCREENS!!!
I have found dealing with Best Buy to not be for the faint of heart. My recommendation for anyone making a major purchase is to research the item to know in advance what you want, so you don't have to deal with the sales people.

IMHO thats why I love shopping online nowadays. I usually know what I want and really hate the pressure of going into places like Best Buy. Recently my old Clie s320 was destroyed by accident. So I just wanted to purchase the SJ20 because it would make a fine replacement unit. So I went to Circuit City and was told it's not in stock and why would I want such a cheap PDA when there is so many other models to choose from. Feeling insulted I left without making a purchase. Called Sony Style figuring I would get it from the source, so after getting all our payment information the rep told us it would be a 3-4 week wait for that model. We called a local shop here in NYC and they have it. Plus the rep told me that I needed the $35 3 year extended warranty just in case it goes. Now we asked if I accidently broke the screen would you replace it and quick NO! w/ a chuckle came out of his mouth. So I know what your going through.
Peace,
Wayne
Do your research!!!

Of course no one will "offer" you the replacement plan. You expect a popup saying "REMEMBER TO PURCHASE THE SERVICE PLAN OR YOU DON'T GET A FREE SJ30 REPLACEMENT!" ......Best Buy didn't screw you; you screwed yourself.

I don't hear where you "got screwed". Sounds like you would just be disappointed in how things turned out. I can relate to that.
I think I've spent $9,000 or $10,000 (maybe more) at Best Buy during the last 10 years or so, and I don't remember ever really having a problem.
Maybe it's just me?

You didn't get screwed Jenix, you're just mad because you couldn't get away with screwing best buy out of a free pda for no reason in which they are in no way obligated to give you.
