My ZLauncher shows red with 28% memory.
Does anyone have a way to 'flush' the memory or recommend an app for memory management on the UX50?
thnx.

SMEGGIE'S RULE OF THUMB:
Unless an app needs to be updated daily, is a web app or just doesn't work well from the stick, it goes in main memory. (Agendus, AcidImage, etc.)
Everything else...goes on the stick.

most (not all unfortunately) will work from stick... i use zlauncher to move to stick which leaves a "shortcut" still on the palm/clie ... most apps run quite happily... quick office too but datafiles (ss docs) need to stay in main (palm) memory

I'd myself recommend to leave at least 3/4mb on ram and vms ; they all seem to be slower when fully charged.
Actually i have 9mb free in ram and 4 on vms ;

Do you have a memory stick? If not, there is no way to relieve your RAM aside from deleting applications and databases you do not use.
If you have a memory stick, you should be using the ZL to move apps to the memory stick as this will free up RAM. That would be the simplest solution right now. When you start an app stored on the MS, ZL will move it to RAM for you to use and return it to MS when you close out of the app.

Don't forget the 29mb vms :)

Does the NX80 have that 29mb? At first I was confused as to why Sony would make the memory allocation so strange. However, as each day passes, I am more thankful for the internal media.

Ux is the one and only clie at the moment with this feature ; according to what i read, the 64mb nand flash is very costly. It partially justifies high ux price, but also explains why it's not on the TH

The Int. Media pseudo-memorystick is unique to the UX series, I believe.
The size of it is also not necessarily 29MB -- it's 48MB less what's being used for PalmOS apps in "ROM". This differs between different locales, which have different versions of the apps. On my UX50/U, it's 30.2MB (where M=1024*1024).
By default, some of the space is already in use for add-on apps by Sony that didn't make it into the ROM. There's a hidden /System directory, where these files reside.
If you don't want these apps, they can be deleted using a 3rd party file manager that can see hidden files through the following steps:
- Browse to /System/Palm/AliasExt and /System/Palm/App on the Int. Media card, and delete the app files there
- Browse to the main memory area on the handheld, and remove the "read-only" bit from the "*AppName" (where AppName is the name of the app) file.
- Perform a normal reset.
If you change your mind and need to put the apps back, you can find them in a hidden folder on the UX40/UX50 CD, under \Bin\Sys, where the AE folder contents go into AliasExt and the AP folder contents go into the App folder. Again, this has to be followed by a reset, during which the *AppName files will be recreated.

-> arth1 it's not the app but the aliasext folder :)
The aliasext method can be used in any media (vms/ms), the defaulkt folder should be PALM\Programs\Aliasext\ you can also use the hidden system branch on the vms but still have to use the aliasext folder

Sweet. I deleted the apps already, but in case I need to get them back... It was only like three apps right?

Read what I wrote (I know, I've edited my post, but not that part). I specified BOTH the AliasExt and App folders, and BOTH are used.

Yep, this did the trick...using my 256 MB memory stick....ZLauncher is slick about this! Thnx all!
