Since we're ahead of the game from SonyStyle, I'm hoping this means they're getting it to retailers sooner than expected and we 'Best Buy Preorder' crowd will get it sooner than we thought as well! Of course, we're dealing not only with the less-than-consistent Sony, but the even-more-less-than-reliable Best Buy at the same time. I won't get my hopes up for early delivery... ;)

Mine's been shipped too (order placed on 2/10/04 overnight) FEDEX shows delivery today at 3:00 p.m. We are receiving them much faster than I thought. I hope the Best Buy preorders ship as fast too. Let the "posts" begin....

You're probably right about a 20th release date. I called Dell, who claims to have them in stock right now, and the earliest ship date they would give me is the 2-th even though I called on the 17th.
BTW I haven;t registered yet because I am on the fence as to what PDA I will get next and my recent layoff has caused me to delay even more :<.

I am also completely thrilled that Sony shipped so soon. This will give me a couple of weeks to read others impressions while I wait for my unit from BB.
The savings I got by buying at $319 was significant. The value of reading others' first experiences, priceless.;)

Seriously, I know we all have our own values on what's important in terms of time vs. money. For me, I would wait 4-6 weeks for an $80 savings. The reason is that I currently have an operating PDA. For me to "upgrade" I needed the price to be right.

Yeah, I know. I am not a big fan of BB myself. If the price wasn't so low on pre-order I definately would have passed them up too.

Mine is supposed to be here today as well via FedEx. It's interesting though - I checked the Sony Style web page last night about 9:00PM PST and they still showed it as "out of stock" and unknown shipping date.
Thank goodness I'm in my home office today and will be able to get it as soon as it hits the door step.

Wow...congrats everyone who's TH55 shipped (and to you who've recieved it)!
Sadly, I can't get a TH55 since I spent my PDA money on the T|T3, which I actually don't regret ;). But, I'll get my hands on a TH55 somehow...:p.

Congrats on your new arrivals! :D
You guys who have received your TH55s, could you please tell us more about the Memory Stick "door". Does it have to be completely closed to use a MS?
I'm asking because some U.S. purchasers would like to use the BT memory stick (and maybe GPS) with their THs. The BT MS is longer than regular MSs, so they are anxiously waiting for this info.

WaryCary, there doesn't appear to be any reason why the MS door would have to be closed in order to use such a MS. However, the door seems to be rather vunerable and if you had it open to accomodate whatever device was protruding - it wouldn't last long, IMHO.
It should be fine as long as you don't start trying to slip the TH55 in and out of some case but without a doubt it's going to be susceptable to breakage under your scenario.
Once the unit is fully charged and I get a chance to play with it - I'll try a standard Memory Stick (all I have) and see if it's accessed with the door open - I'm sure it will be but I'll let you know later this evening.

It looks like it could be used with the door open, but the door itself is on rather weak hinges. If you were to use it with the door open, it would be flopping around and get broken off in short order. Also with any device sticking out of the slot, it would interfere with holding it in your hand. If I was going to use a MS that stuck out, I would be looking at an NX, TG, or TJ series.

Wow! Thank you guys for your quick replies!
As I suspected, even if it is possible, using the BT stick with the U.S. TH55 will be clumsy at best, and will very likely lead to a broken door.
My clients will be so unhappy - they have been dying for a BT Clie with this form factor. They'll just have to continue with their NXs a while longer. :(
Grrrr - those lucky Euros!!!

so how long are you going to charge your unit? Does it require a fully charge before use? I started to use my n760 and sj33 right away without charging them. IMHO there's no longer needed to charge 12 hours before use with Li-ion batteries.

The first card in all the literature that comes with the TH55 says the first thing you need to do is charge the battery fully, and that should take about 4 hours. With my UX50 it took 3 1/2 hours.

Try and find a store in Europe that will sell you a TH55. There were some in Germany and England that would. There were several threads in the NX group when the NX73 with BT was only sold in Europe.

Actually, I have received it and gave my first impressions in another thread called "Its here and its charging". Right now it is charging, per Sony's instructions. After it is fully charged, I'll started playing with it and posting my opinions.

The door is closed when the memory stick is inserted. You close the door when it is installed. The slot is recessed into the unit which allows the door to cover it. To remove the memory stick, you push on it, it is spring released (like the other memory stick products).

Same thing happened to me when I first got my NX80V. Took INSANELY LONG to finish the initial charge...like 5-6 hours...so long I actually was afraid something was wrong...so don't feel bad.

If you need BT, take a pass unless you want to purchase it in Europe with the Euro at an all time high vs. the dollar (translation: it'll cost big bucks).
As for the question of how long to charge for the first time. There have been a lot of posts in the SJ/SL forum about this with the SJ-33. The general concensus was that some (but not all) of those that didn't do a complete initial charge had significantly reduced battery life. There were none that had problems who did the full charge. Like the TH-55, the SJ-33 was really noted for it's longer battery life. So I'm going to play it safe and let it charge completely.

Memory Stick door can be open when using a MS - at least a 128MB magic gate stick and it worked fine.

They are very wisely letting their TH55s take a full charge in order to maximize battery life and lifespan. ;)

I remember when I pre-ordered ux50 from SS, it has been out of stock and CompUSA already got them. I went out to buy it and cancelled the preorder with SS.
