As the title says, which wireless router would you recommend for use with the TH55?

I am planning on not buying a cradle, and just wirelessly syncing on my normal morning sync, but which wireless router would you recommend for:

1.  Ease of use with a Linksys Cablemodem

2.  Ease of use with a TH-55

3.  Security so my creepy neighbors do not steal my bandwidth?

Thank you for your advice.

One router that has good reviews right now would be the Dlink DI624. 802.11g/b with excellent reatings at CNET and PCMAG. You can get a good deal on it right now. Check out Ecost or Amazon. they have it for around 70 bucks and a $20 on top of it. This deal won't last and is easily one of the best otut there with a router with thsi feature set. Very easy to set up with a cable modem. I just got mine yesterday and I set up my LAN in a few minutes. Wireless and wired.

I'm looking at the Netgear WGR614 wireless-G router. It's been well-rated by CNET and PC Magazine as well.

Next time you can just hit the little "Edit" button below your post to fix it.

I'm a big fan of Netgears - I have one at home and an USR in the lab - the Netgear is way easier to setup and config.

However, I think the difference in quality/speed between any of USR, SMC, NetGear, Linksys, Dlink would not be noticeable, and none of them should be tough to set up. Don't expect anywhere near 11Mbps on any handheld!

I'm a big fan of Linksys because of ease of use and tech support. I've had to call them a couple of times for setups for neighbors and friends and they get right to the problem without walking me through the basics - they can tell off the bat that I've setup several units and they take me right to the DNS server settings to fix the issue rather than making me feel small.

Take a look at the warranties, too. I believe Netgear's is 3 years. That's about as good as it gets. I would stay away from somebody offering only a 1-year warranty.

Linksys WRT54G. Simply the best IMHO. I have never had any trouble with it. The latest firmaware allows you to run WPA Radius security or the standard WEP, MAC filtering and the option to disable SSID broadcast. These things will help keep your creepy neighbors from spying.... :) It's also pretty fast and is only around $80-$90. It can even be hooked to a Linksys booster to boost your signal out into the neighbor's neighbor's house!

Amen to the Linksys WRT54G.

I used to have a BEFSR41 ( I think that was the wired model # ) then switched to the WRT54G when my wife got a laptop and wanted wireless access to the Internet.

An excellent wireless ( and wired ) solution.

I have a Netgear MR814 and it is functional, in-expensive, but limited. I saw them for $20 after rebate last weekend.

Buy.com has the WRT54G for $74 w/ free shipping as of today when I ordered on...

I had problems in the past with a Netgear, then I switched to a Lynksys BEFW11S4 and it was as easy as plugging it in (it has a 4 port swith integrated)!

My vote is for the Linksys.

The next one I'll get will be the WRT54G

I'm using Netgear WGR614(router) and WG511(wireless card), got from staples. Saved $70 total as special buy. http://www.staples.com/products/SpotLights/040125/479527/Default.asp ( I got from my local staples store)
They are well designed, the router is small enough to fit on any size computer table. I used to have a linksys router, didn't like the size and the color. The WG511 wireless card perfectly matches the color of my vaio notebook.
I highly recommend people to get this package as you save a lot of money after rebate ($70).

What a coincidence. I just happened to pick up a wireless router today. I called the wife and to her to go to the local sams club and pick up the LINKSYS BEFWS114 router and WUSB11 adapter (sold as a combo kit for $79.99). It's not G, but it will serve for what I need it for.

This is my first networking experience and the overall setup went quite smoothly. The simple instruction cards guide you through the basic installation. I was up and running in under 30 mins. After installation, I noticed that my signal strength and data quality meters were reading about 20-30%. And no mater where I positioned the router antenas or adapter the strengh indicators would still only read 20-30%. Puzzled by this I sat for a moment and clicked around in XP's network settings. I found that in the available wireless networks, there were 2 access points. The one I created was there, but then there was another called default. Hmmmm default.... this isn't mine... I didn't name mine default... Apparently I was surfing through someone elses wireless network. I live in an apartment complex btw. So after selecting my created network as the default and not the default :) everything was much better. Signal strengh went up to almost 100.

So the moral of this story is, unless you want give people free internet access and who knows what else. Please set up your wireless network correctly. I still have much research do on this subject. Don't leave password or ssid name at default factory settings and enable WEP.

That last one was me. I have no idea why I was all of a sudden not logged in?? Anyway, the other thread basically says you can get a Netgear MR814 right now for ~$25.

I have many Linksys products to include a wireless router. I have been pretty satisfied with them all. Good quality and very reliable.

Also, Linksys is now a division of Cisco. So quality and support of future products "should" increase...maybe.

My vote's for the Netgear MR814 v.2. I just got the router this weekend from Amazon. It took me less than 10 minutes to setup. Didn't mess with the cds for both the router and wifi card, but just used both Mobile Connection Wizard for the Clie and installation guide for the router. Overall, I'm happy with the easy setup.

So does that mean you like or dislike it? I couldn't tell by your post....

Does anyone have experience with the Belkin 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router? It can be found here:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201522&pcount=&Product_Id=136493

I purchased this direct from Belkin because there was a great online coupon (50%), but haven't set it up yet, as I have no way to test it until my TH55 arrives.

I'm curious to know whether others have had good/bad experiences with the Belkin router though...

I just got it yesterday and the set-up was a piece of cake. I was leaning towards the linksys but ended up getting the Belkin because of a good rebate at CompUSA and because of the lifetime warranty. No regrets here.:D
