View Full Version : reason for Netfront fatal error in Hotspots?

now i know why my Netfront always gets a "fatal exception" when browsing in public hotspots (of course, paid)...

the problem being is that i use Netfront to login from the web to a particular WiFi provider... then via McPhling, switch to another application (say Iambic Mail)... then whenever I go back to Netfront, either through McPhling or pressing HOME, then selecting Nefront, I always get a "fatal exception"... and this is very reproducible - 100% of the time

my initial assumption hinged on the problem being either ZLauncher or McPhling

why ZLauncher? because when i dont use ZLauncher, it usually works out fine

then i realized that during the times im not using ZL, McPhing is not enabled too...

i did a trial run (dozens and dozens of times):

ZLauncher enabled, McPhling enabled ---> fatal exception 100%
ZLauncher enabled, McPhling disabled ---> no problem
ZLauncher disabled, McPhling enabled ---> most of the time
ZLauncher disabled, McPhling disabled ---> no problem

can anyone at least give me a reason? or at least a work-around?

thanks!!!

PS: btw, im using the CLIE NX80V (ie., meaning McPhling version 5)

the error happens when i use MZone, YahooBB, and OCN Hotspot, as well as NeoRoaming, and JR Raku Bu

the only time it does NOT happen is when im using it at my WiFi setup at home (with 128-WEP Key, and MAC address filtering)

It might be a location problem. Contact the system compatibility with the location and device.

no location problem because i have tried it at dozens of the sites for each WiFi provider - from ebisu, to shibuya, to akihabara, to kamiya-cho, to narita/haneda airport... results are the same...

furthermore, i have done the tests repeatedly, and it always comes out that the bad duckling is "McPhling" - as soon as i disabled McPhling, smooth browsing

actually today was my last day of testing...

no problem...

it is just that... why in the hell my Netfront DOES not crash at home, but it crashes in public hotspots (at least here in japan)

and why does my testing always point to McPhling? i mean, McPhling is a known and stable application, and there haven't been any reports of other users who use McPhling and Netfront while using public hotspots.

hhhhmmm... somethings will never be unraveled... the Palm is going down the way of the PPC --> unstable
