Hi
I just read that :
http://www.handshigh.com/html/wifilepr1.html
According to this press announcement, Wifile, which will be released in march will enable us to access smb based shares (windows/mac/linux) over any network but above all they announce that we'll also be able to open files remotely which opens doors to mp3 streaming, etc...
Looking foward to be playing with this new supposed killer app

I don't see smbmate specified there, but good for him. I emailed a bit with the author of SMBMate, and while his reasons for freeware were different from my reasons for writing open-source, I hope he gets the financial success he deserves and I appreciate the gift of smbmate to the community.

I got the info that it's the "successor" as the link was given on previous smbmate site :)

Yes the SmbMate web page links handshigh.
Quote from the smbmate page.
"SmbMate has been acquired by Hands High Software, Inc. Hands High is continuing to develop it into a commercially available product, and the first release is expected near the end of March. For more information, and to see the recent press release, see http://www.handshigh.com/ "

speaking of smbmate. Does anyone have any recommendations about optimisation schemes? Has anyone done any testing with wifi?

yes i have, i have found that "Mode A" is the quickest bye far. Its hard to tell by using small files but with a large file "A" works the best.

2 important things : try to set a valid username and password in the corresponding field, this has boosted my transfer rate ; regarding optimisation i think it's also gonna depend on your set up and hardware ;
Mt usual rate with smb is around 150/200 kB/s depending on media etc
Where can i download this program ?
Thanks

Regarding the Google link that was posted, you can go to the cached version of the first result (Freeware Palm's site) and download the file from there. I just did that.
