Could anyone share their experiences migrating from other Palm OS devices to Clies?

I've preordered the TH55. It has pretty much everything I've wanted in a new PDA. Great design, hi-res, wi-fi, etc. Right now I'm using a Handspring Visor Pro.

I figured I'd try to do clean installs of my registered applications but I'd like to hear about what has worked (or not) for others.

There will be a migration tool with the TH55 that will help with this. My typical mode of migration is to make a copy of the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Palm\SR\backup (you may have another subfolder for the individual user name if multiple users on one PC) and then store it in a safe place. Load the new install CD and follow it's instructions and be certain to choose the same user name as the previous device to enable all of the purchased software/shareware. Normally with a PalmOne device - this is seemless as long as your going from the same basic OS. That is OS5 to OS5.

If memory serves - your HS Visor Pro is still running OS4.x version. There will be some shareware that would/will probably have to be upgraded to OS5. Under these circumstances - I would do as above but then delete all of the shareware from the original backup directory. This would allow me to restore these apps from the copied backup directory one at a time to see how they might affect the new device since they are of a different OS type. But, this is my method.

I'd suggest reading the instructions in great detail since the TH55 is vastly different then the Visor.

I echo what Moose Man said.

Plus, it might also be helpful to visit Handango or Palmgear to find out if the programs you own have OS5 versions and/or hi-res & download them. If your code for your registration was based solely on your user name, you should have no trouble installing the newest version. If a problem arises with the registration, contact the developer for most are quite accommodating.
