Yeah, good game. It plays nicely in full screen on my UX and gave me hours of fun, but then decided to get rid of it because i had a load of other games and it took quite a bit of space. Nice game though, definately recomended, especially UX users.

Do it really needs 7MB of Ram?
Thtas more than the half of my NX70.
Can I Install it on Card?
actually it only needs like 2 MB of ram and I put it in the internal media, and I was kinda surprised how fast its loading. the game is really good.

Snails as a game is Awsome I am a massive fan of the original Worms. BUT and a big BUT....I downloded the demo first via PDA 24/7 and it took me directly to the download page so i installed it thought wow but it had no sound and was only 320 x 320 I thought OK maybe this is just the demo and the full version will be HI RES + because the image of an NZ 90 shows it running full screen and I thought maybe the audio is limited to the full version too. So I followed the link and bought the handango full version.
Now I am dissapointed although this game is super fast on my NX73v even running off the MS it is still the 320 version and there is no sound, so I went to the main website and lo and behold there in a small piece of text that isn't on the page I downloaded the game from it says about only PALM source units having sound support. WHAT ???? so this means UX's and TH55's and other new clie's will work but my NX73V has no bloody sound. I have emailed the developer and although I realise they are probably very busy after three days they have not replied.
Now I realise that the sound is probably a brick wall to bang my head against. BUT why can't I get full screen ?????????????

OK I take it all back, I have just spent 10 minutes actually looking into this and discovered that when you PC install the game and hotsync it seems to install the recommended game for your clie, I have an NX73v and it installed the 320 version.
If you actually look in the PDAmill folder in your programfiles on you PC you will see a selection of versions and some extra files and a Txt files which again says NX73V uses the 320 version.
HERE's MY TOP TIP. uninstall the game from your clie.
install the AppSlipRotate.prc and the StatusBarLib.prc (i know it says it's for the tungsten but trust me on this)
you will need to reset after this (thats how these prc's are set so don't worry)
Now install snails480NS.prc and hotsync.
WOO HOO you now should have a full screen landscape game to play. :D
afterwards I moved it to my memory stick and apart from a few seconds to start up it works great. here's my NX73v screenshot

AppSlipRotate.prc and StatusBarLib.prc are for the T3 only. Actually the T3 has pretty funky landscape support. Emulated and VERY slow compared to portrait.

Just a warning: I downloaded the demo and installed it. I was viewing the computer vs. computer mode, however I needed to access my phone list shortly later. For the life of me I could not figure out a way to stop the game (I did not spend a hoard of time looking, since I needed the phone list like now.) I ended up hitting the reset button, however my palm was then in a continously cycle of starting to load and reseting, starting to load and resetting. I ended up having to hard reset to clear it....

Its weird, the 320 version goes full screen on mine, but whenever you switch weapons or any button that would be at the bottom, it lanches volume control or mem managment. and then it slowly draws snails over the newly apparent graffiti pad whenever a leaf falls over it.
BTW: Does anyone have any problem that it lists you as unregistered on your posts even if you are registered on other parts of the site, like pm's? Using Mozilla browser.

From pdamill:
Snails:
I downloaded the demo via the link from your site on Saturday and was blown away by the amazing graphics. I have always been a big fan of the original worms game for PC so I thought this would be a basic cut down version. How wrong I was.
After installing the demo there were a few minor points concerning my NX73v, firstly there was no sound (it wasn’t till I had bought the game and then investigated more later that I discovered sound was not supported on my NX73v, it is not very clearly stated on the download page, only a small piece of text on the main page).
I then found there was no full screen, I put this down to it being a demo. I bought the game within 10 minutes but after running the installer on my pc and hotsyncing I found I still had a 320 x 320 game, I spent the weekend pondering over this trying to find settings to change the size but gave up. It wasn’t until this morning that I discovered that the installer programme had placed a selection of prc files in a folder on my PC I read the Txt file included which said for my NX73v I should install the 320 version ??? and that the 480 versions were for the UX series, all clie versions have NS added to the file name which I presume means ‘no sound’ (thanks a bunch SONY) there are also two more prc files one is StatusBarLib.prc and the other is AppSlipRotate.prc both of which are intended for the Tungsten T3 for landscape mode.
Now this is where I made a fantastic discovery, just as an experiment I installed the AppSlipRotate and StatusBarLib prc files I then had to reset, then I installed the Snails480NS.prc file and hotsynced. Guess what…It works I now have a landscape full screen game. I moved it to my memory stick and apart from a few second to start up the game runs great. And I keep my clie’s memory.
The game itself is a work of art. The colours are vibrant and the animation is smooth. You control the game using your stylus by either tapping the direction controls or dragging your snail across the screen, both options are very smooth and accurate, there is a large selection of weapons and the aim is pretty accurate with a little practice. The humour is reflected in some very sarcastic comments if you miss your target or blow yourself up. The first game I played I was beaten and the end of game message suggested that If the developers knew I was gonna be that crap they’d have made an even easier level for me J my skills are improving and I am now winning.
I have to say that this is the best game I have ever installed on my Clie and for it’s amazingly low price aswell I would highly recommend it. For HiRes plus clie users who are forever searching for apps that work in landscape mode to maximise the se of there screen this is a refreshing and welcome addition. It’s a shame that Sony’s audio system on pre UX models restricts us to silent gameplay with Snails but the sarcastic subtitles go some way to making up for this.

Both PDAmill games are causing all sorts of issues with my UX50. I've tried the demos for both Gamebox Solitaire and Snails and in both instances I'm getting a VG/status bar glitch on the right-hand side of the screen that is so annoying that I can barely play the game.
What's worse is that Gambox Solitaire won't let me tap "Exit" in the upper right corner because my " <-- " button for expanding the VG is causing a conflict.
I have to use my calendar button the UX to back out of both games, but when I get back to my launcher and try to execute something else, I get an error and have to reset.
I'd LOVE to play both of these games in all their glory - so if you have a UX, please let me know how it performs.

I tried the demo on my NX70 and in my T3. Graphically (after tweaking with the prc's and getting it to work on fullscreen in the NX) both versions are amazingly good and beautiful.
As for sound... well if you have a PalmOne device you're in for a treat. The music is very funny (cartoon like) and the sound effects are simply great.
On my NX it has given me some trouble. Sometimes the screen is not drawn correctly or the game exits by itself. On the T3 no problems at all. It works flawlesly
To PdaMill:
Congrats on a superior game!!

if your having status bar woes, have you tried installing the StatusBarLib.prc to see if that helps, it's only 11k once installed.
it's been running on my NX73v in landscape full screen for a few days now and I have had some wicked battles, still no problems with graphics or crashing. :D

This game is huge !
Thank you guys for so much feedbacks about snails.
Soo, there are lot of questions to answered:
-Do it really needs 7MB of Ram?
Thtas more than the half of my NX70.
The memory requirement depends on the prc you installed and the size of the dynamic (program) memory your devices has. I think the 480x320 no music version on nx70 you needs about 4mb to run.
-Can I Install it on Card?
Yes, you can.
-320x320 version on nx60/nx73:
It seems a bug in the installer, sorry for that. Until the update please install manually the 480NS.prc version. It can be found in the directory in what you have installed it.
-Sound/Music on pre UX50 devices:
It is because of the non-published sony sound api (or rather the lack of it). As soon as they release one that supports REAL streaming sound we will update our games to support it. Using 8khz ADPCM is rather annoying.
-Mac install:
We used .exe because of copy protection. A good news! We intend to finish our online registration interface on pdamill.com by next friday (02/27), where you can register and download your personal, registered .prc. (it will be available for ALL of our games) and it will be useable on windows boxes too.
-Its weird, the 320 version goes full screen on mine, but whenever you switch weapons or any button that would be at the bottom, it lanches volume control or mem managment. and then it slowly draws snails over the newly apparent graffiti pad whenever a leaf falls over it.
Hmmm. Thanks for that. I think I know why does it happens.
About two or three weeks from now we will release an update. Please check it then if it addresses it.
Cheers,
Goro

On UX50 doesn't that Clie as well as the TJ that I have both use the Palm sound API?
I'm glad to hear about the option for Mac users. I still haven't recieved a reply from your support person though. It has been awhile now.
Jamie
No, the UX50 was the first (and as far as i know so far the only) sony that supports the palmOS's sound api.
On other devices the Sony did not release any interface to use it for high quality music (only their proprietary softwares can use the hardware.. so the device is capable, but...).
Later on I think they realised that it was not a clever move.
Support guy:
Sorry for that, he is definiately going to contact you, I know that he was very busy recently (as last week we have released 2 games), but he is catching up with it. :-)

Yup, I'm having this problem on my NZ90 as well, although I THINK moving Snails back onto the Clie from the MS might have fixed it.
I'm also getting the problem of battery status, graffiti, etc launching whenever I tap their onscreen locations in the game.
Makes it totally unplayable. :..(

Having said that...
I've just tried the suggestion from earlier in this thread of installing the 480NS version instead. Not only does this run the game in beeeeautiful landscape mode on my NZ90, but the graffiti, battery status, etc buttons are no longer being activated. Superb!
Didn't need to install those other two Tungsten .prcs either.
Still getting the battery problem though, with Snails on the MS.

Okay, this battery thing is pretty intolerable.
On the NZ90, it would seem, after about a minute of playing Snails either from the Clie or the MS, a message pops up saying that the battery is very low. Seconds later, the Clie turns itself off, and then when you turn it back on, the battery is completely drained! A soft reset makes no difference - a recharge is the only solution.
I've never had this happen with any other app, and it makes no difference if the battery is completely charged to start with.
Most upsetting. :-(

must me a problem with the whole infolithium deal . . . . why did they have to make it all smart for = P
maybe it's seeing the rapid drain of playing games from the MS or CF that it figures it's degrading . . . .
S_Bruv
02-21-2004, 09:03 PM
And there's more...
If I fire up Snails, play it til the battery message pops up (ie, for about a minute at most), hit the Back button to get rid of it and exit Snails immediately, the battery indicator shows 0 charge for a few seconds and then goes back up to wherever it was prior to launching Snails. If I don't quit Snails immediately, it really means it - the 0 charge becomes 'real' and I have to recharge.
Hope this info is of some use to PDAMill...

I used HRCapt for the earlier screenshot, but on the first attept it captured a white box where my DA's window popped up, on the second attempt though it worked fine as you can see, it could just be that if you take a shot at a very labour intensive moment for the processor it can't quite manage a clean shot, keep trying it should work.

I am a registered user of Snails since it came out. You need to download the windows.exe file and not the palm prc files. Run the .exe file and you will have an icon on your computer to enter the unlock code. It will place your name in the Snails program screen, signifying registration.

for PDAmill games, there are 2 seperate setup files. One for the demo, another for the full version. It's in teh naming scheme. Also, the reg code is to install the game from the Windows Installer (you[re asked this code just before you select which files to should be installed on your PDA). Once installed on your PDA, you're done... it's the full version. For the post to be authentic, u'd need a DL to the full version unless PDAmill cirumvented this for us.
