I just checked mine and it's still there.

I think they might cancel if there is a problem verifying your credit card. Give them a call and find out--then let us know. Thanks!

Mine is still there as well, so hopefully yours wasn't the first of a whole bunch of cancellations and was related to something specific to you. Still sucks for you though!!

They say VISA can not improved my shipping address, and I say I can pick it up, but she say the product already stop pre-order. so I can't buy it.

I just called them and the TH55 doesn't even show up in their system!! kind of fishy.
why is it sold out if its not even for sale yet?

They say VISA can not improved my shipping address

They match up your Visa number and the address where you get billed. If you entered a different address (or made a mistake typing), it might have caused the order to be denied. That's too bad though that they cancelled the order instead of finding out what was wrong with your address.

I received a call from CapitalOne's fraud folks to verify mine. Since I had used my billing address but have it shipping to my work address, it sent up a red flag. After a brief conversation with them they had me call BestBuy.com's verfication department to ask them to resubmit it. This all happened on the 12th (ordered on the 11th).... and mine still shows as pre-ordered.

I guess I should thank CapitalOne for verifying so quickly, otherwise I might have been in the same boat as you.

Cheers, Rich

Same thing happened to me..I ordered TH55 in bestbuy on 11th and they canceled my order on 12th ..I immediately called best buy and i asked them what was wrong with my order. They said they were unable to verify my billing address using credit card .
I checked my billing address..it was spelling mistake.

So i changed my billing address and i asked the BB representative to reprocess my order..They reprocessed my order. and it is still in "INProcess" state.

Hope i will get my TH55 on 03/05..

So those three orders were canceled because of their shipping address doesn't match the billing address not because of bestbuy will close the door for all of us. I just checked my order status on BB web site and it's still good.

Those who had their orders cancelled, did you see a charge on your credit card? Mine's still pre-ordered, and the $300+ had already been taken out of my Visa checking account. I hope that that means my info has been verified with them.

Just checked my order and it is still good. No changes on price or release date.

And, no, they don't charge you until the item ships, as far as I know.

You are correct, at least according to BB's "pre-order FAQ." It is available for anyone to read--just go to their site and search for "pre-order."

I don`t even see the preorder for the TH 55.. I only see the TJ 27 and TJ 37 coming 3-5 to 3-10-2004.

So it does seem that Best BUy had atlease temper removed the TH 55 from there list of products.

I wonder if all these "canellations" are just an excuse for them to cut their loss on some many orders being placed. At $319, they have to be selling them close to cost. My source at CompUSA says their cost for a TH55 is $324, with a selling price of $399.

ClieKun

324 and 319 is not a big deal. Maybe sony is not getting the devices to them on time. Who knows.

Yeah... Maybe BestBuy cancel TH-55 pre-order people just because can abate their lose as possible. so they try yo find any little mistake.

Now, I pre-order on eCost the price is 373 include taxes...
I think someone can get no taxes price because the state. I'm C.A

I used a Visa debit card and the money has been put on hold, which basically means that I've already been charged. It's all good though, looks like they won't have anything to complain about.

All I can say is, bestbuy as always just sucks, plain and simple. I hope they don't cancel all the orders for the TH55.

I really don't think this is a case of BB sucking as normal.  It is typical for a company to cancel an order or at least place it on hold if they can't verify shipping or billing information.  So far all the cancelled orders I've seen mention of referenced bad address/credit card info as the reason.

I checked my order last evening and it's still there and good.  I'll likely call AMEX later today to ensure BB has done an authorization for the price which is what I expect those with debit cards to have seen.  An authorization is done to hold the money aside and it does count against your credit limit, but the amount isn't actually charged.  Again, running an auth is a typical retail practice for items on pre-order.

Don't get me wrong, I am one of BB biggest critics, but I'm also fair and will point out when a company is getting a bad rap.

No. Data Vision (http://datavisioncomputer.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1239076&prmenbr=2000) sell them for $368 via DealTime.com, but when you go directly to Data Vision website, it is selling for $395 for PEG-HT55. It must be a new one, as I've never heard of such PDA.

Just checked with AMEX and BB did indeed do an auth the night of the 10th.  They haven't charged the card yet but the transaction is approved.

Has anybody actually asked BB if they plan to cancel our orders? If not, maybe I'll send them an email. I don't want to "jinx" myself, which is kind of silly, I guess.

Griff

I actually called BB and asked them about it.  They guy said there is no way they should cancel any orders unless there is a problem with billing info.  He said preorder situations are common and that prices are changing all the time.  As long as I have my order in I should get it for the $319.

ONE LAST TIME. There is NO WAY any of you will get the TH55 for $319 or $329 or $339 from BestBuy.

BB is doing this so they can have word of mouth promotions.
You can do a internet search on BestBuy customer store ratings and you will find out BB always do this kind of things and the customer will NEVER recieve the item at the low end price.

uz50,

I think you're wrong.  If you have some past experience with BB canceling an order of yours, then why not say that.  Give us some details to prove your credibility.  Otherwise your opinion is no more valuable than mine.

Actually 2weeks ago i wanted to pre-order the TH55 from Bestbuy, so i did a little internet search on "Bestbuy TH55" and i got a return on Th55 for $319 at Bestbuy and at the sametime i saw all these customer rating on their stores and after i read their ratings, i just do a quick Bye Bye to BB :D

Bestbuy really reminded me "The Wiz" store few year back, good Company, bad employees.

btw, check out what customers are saying about BB.

That makes absolutely no sense. Best Buy fools a lot of people into pre-ordering a PDA, only to yank the rug out from under them? That is their master plan on how to "spread the word"? Let's give the people who run Best Buy -- a very successful company -- a little more credit than that.

By the way, most people don't hate Best Buy, or they would have gone out of business long ago.

Just an interesting anecdote from BB today. Ordered a TH55 a week ago. I put it on one of my cards that only has about $500 on it (I think it had about $350 left). Order went through, no problem. Today, I get an email that there's a big problem. Turns out that my phone no. somehow "mysteriously" got changed and didn't match with my card. So what does BB do? Turn around an "recharge" my account for another Clie (even though their web site says it won't be charged 'until shipped'). No surprise, they got a rejection. Explanation was "if nothing's done with this charge in 7 days the card co. takes it off" but "mysteriously" again that failed to happen. I decided to cancel and make other arrangements.

I know, Good company, bad employees.

How many of the hundreds of Best Buy stores have you been to? How many of the thousands of employees have you met? Which stores do you shop at where you've never had any problems?

Honestly, I don't know where all the flaming of Best Buy comes from. Of course, this is a Sony forum, and plenty of people here constantly rip Sony....

Don't forget jumpg, it's always easier to complain then it is to praise.

An experiment was done where a group of people wrote to a company in which half of them wrote complaint while the other half praised them. Result?

The half that complained received coupons and even complimentary products while the other half received nothing, Not even a thank you.

I totally agree with jumpg, though, that no one should quickly bash a company because of 1 or 2 bad experience with them. Every company has its own flaw and it's up to us (the consumer) to judge for ourselves whether buying from them is worth it. Don't judge the company too critically. Instead, judge the indivduals who work there and make your complaints heard through the suggestion box they provide you. Perhaps, then, they could hire someone who is more capable.

Great point Pharoz.

When I feel like I've gotten a raw deal, I'll raise holy h3ll to get it fixed.
On the other hand, if I get good service, I usually think I'll compliment the employee or company, but it's very easy to forget.

I have had uneven luck with BB. I had a problem a couple of years ago where the local store wouldn't take care of a refund that they screwed up, but when I posted on a BB hate site, one of their CS supervisors contacted me and resolved the whole thing. I have bought all my PDA's from there, mainly since there weren't any other stores around, but the support of their ESP has been great. I only wish that their in-store support of PDA's would continue.

Am I the only person on this forum who has had a good, no GREAT experience at Best Buy!? I must be.

Seems like all the people berating BB are going back there - having some type of horrible experience - coming on here & bit*hing about it - going back there to shop - having a horrible experience, coming on here & bit*hing about it...well you get the point! Seems like some strange vicious circle, no? Or are they just BS'ing because it sounds more exciting & dramatic.

I am currently a college student and saved A LOT of moola for a while to buy a new laptop last October. I was upgrading from a 166MHz Pentium. YES..you heard right...a Pentium ONE (1) no MMX even!!!

I finally settled on a sweet emachines laptop right in my price range. I paid $1400 CASH (before GENEROUS rebates) at a BestBuy on the upper east side of Manhattan. Four days later it died! DEAD. I freaked. Brought it RIGHT back and explained what happened to the manager and she said she sees this a lot with all brands of laptops (not just mine). They're are duds from time to time from even the biggest name brands. She calmed me down and in half an hour after the tech checked out my dead laptop she handed me a brand new box. The manager couldn't have been nicer or more civil & understanding of my plight & my laptop has been performing flawlessly ever since.

I bought emachines 1.8GHz PC for my wife and mom about a year ago. They are still humming perfectly, so sucking sound. Well I take that back. I did hear sucking sound when I was using it one time and that's from my wife doing vacuuming the carpet. ;)

As to BB bashes or praises, mine will come loud and clear in 3 weeks.
