TH software on NX80?

I'm sure this has been asked already, but is there any information on whether the new PIM software on the hires+ TH55 can also work on the NX80? Am I a fool to hope that Sony will share this with its recent customers?

Don't count on Sony sharing anything with anyone. There whole marketing thing is to get you hooked on something new like a better screen or killer software like the new CLIE organizer then force you to buy the new TH55 if you want the software program. Sony has never sold anything as a third party app. Hell they can't even get updates on there web site for anyone.

But with all that said, I love there products and it is all I buy now. I am a SONY- AHOLIC!

I agree with you mrSONYman, I'm hooked on Sony now...bastards. You know, if they just didn't make things THAT hard (software upgrades, OS upgrades, sound API's, etc.)...but, I do love their products, and now am Sony for life.

I doubt that Sony will allow sharing. I'm pretty sure when people actually get their hands on the new TH55's, some people will get the PIM software and other software on their NX's. I can't wait until that does happen.

I'm pretty certain that the new THH software will work with the NX series (the 73/80's at least). The real question is what file names they are using for the new software and how that might interact with current PIM databases. I wouldn't try installing any of that stuff without first backing up all my data, then doing a hard reset and copying the new PIM programs over.

There's also the issue of figuring out which files are needed for the PIM programs...oh, and not to mention the new Palm Desktop for Clie software. New PIM software means new PC software to sync the data with. I'm sure we'll find copies of these programs around the net within the coming weeks.

wow. I tried 3.1 on my nx70v. it works fine.
But I couldn't find support for horizontal view. It has really "fit to screen".
It also allows changing the User agent.
It asks to open a new page or not if needed.
I think it's great.
I wish it only had horizontal view.

ok.. done.. it was easy to do, all i had to do was rename netfront3 to netfront31 in filez and i moved it easily with jackflash.. wow.. 3.1 is off the hook fast... for people who want to use 3.1 with nx73/80, first copy the netfront prc onto you memory stick from yer pc using data import, then get a copy of mcfile 2.2 beta 3 and copy the netfront prc from memory stick to clie, then go into filez and rename netfront3 to netfront31 and then move it to rom using jackflash.. works perfect.. good luck everyone..

ok guys i got working perfect now.. all i forgot to change was the version id from 1 to 2 in 3.1... use filez and in details change the version id from 1 to 2 and change the name from netfront3 to netfront31 and you can then move it to rom easily with no problems.. good luck

mshaf, to install netfront v3.1 onto your nx80v, first using data import copy the netfront prc file onto your memory stick, then using mcfile 2.2 beta 3, copy or move the netfront prc file from your memory stick onto the clie. then using either filez or mcfile, i perfer filez change the name in details to netfront3 to netfront31, then also change the version id from 1 to 2, then using jackflash move netfront31 to rom. you'll automatically be using the new version as default after that.. good luck

Screwing around deleting stuff in your ROM is a GUARANTEED way to end up with a nice Sony paperweight! :rolleyes:

yes I did all that which is weird (maybe I have a NX73??) ...I use data import to put the file into the memory stick ... but everytime I try moving the file it won't let me ( b/c it's write protected) .... if u don't mind can you send me your copy if NF 3.1 ? k_wong61@yahoo.ca

use Mcfile uncheck the BAckup or any property while the File is in Memory stick. And copy the File to RAM thats it you are good to go. Ignore the error about the memory full, it is something that is triggered when you try to copy a Copyright protected file onto RAM.

So I made a mistake of first synching the Netfront31english.prc with the Clie directly instead of copying it to the MS. It gave me an error message (not very helpful).

I don't came back to the forum and found the instructions to use MvFile and Filez (really cool apps by the way, I think I will keep them :-). I copied the new NetFront to the MS, but when I try to copy it to the Clie RAM using McFile it complains that "NetFront 3.1 already exists" and that I can't overwrite it. But when I search the RAM for the NetFront3.1 I just can't find it anywhere!

Is there any kind of "registry" in the NX80 where a rogue entry to the NetFront3.1 has been created?

So..copying it from the launcher folder on the MS using either Zlauncher or McFile 2.2Beta3 doesn't work?? I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem could be then! :confused: Both those programs were able to load it into RAM while I got numerous 'Can't do it' error messages with FileZ. BTW, that was the first time FileZ wasn't able to do something I wanted it to. I'm crushed! LOL

Searching the RAM won't help because it's not there. As you just described, it said it couldn't overwrite it. Use Zlaunchers file utility. Or the McFile version I gave in the above post.

apparently you just import the 3.1 version from your MS into the ram and it should work the problem with that is the space it takes up, the Netfront 3.1 app is just over 1.8 meg and i don't know about you but on my NX73v i only usually have about 5 or 6 meg spare which I need when i edit large photographs. Is the new version really that much better and is it REALLY worth it if you only surf the net occasionally..my netfront 3 works very well via my T630 on GSM, not sure how to do it with gprs but that would be even faster.

I am having this out of memory error too. Did a hard reset, but when I tried to copy NF 3.1 to the RAM, it say not enough memory. and told me to delete off files to free space.

Tried to run from memory card, and it says insufficient space..

when you run off of the memory card it first copies it to RAM to run then deletes it, that is why you get the out of memory error.

I would back up RAM, hard reset to clear memory, install it, move it to flash via instructions earlier in this thread, and then restore backup.

I doubt it will work on an NX the reason being that its OS 5.0 rather than 5.2 and has a 200mHz proccessor rather than the sony 123mHz.

do you change the file name of the NEW netfront to 31 or 3.1 and do you have to use jackflash to move it to the rom can't fileZ do it, if i have to use jackflash will the demo version do it ??

and thanks to the instructions above we are able to fool jackflash and get the thing out of RAM and into the FLASH....which we have plenty of on the NX80. It's working great!

ir803 if you don't have JackFlash, GET IT!! You will save yourself much valuable RAM! Yes, change the name of the NEW netfront (version 3.1) to 31 so you can move it to Flash memory, otherwise this isn't necessary.

You probably are able to delete it. I know from what I speak because I learned this lesson about not F'ing around with your ROM the hard way. I messed with the ROM on my N7xx series Clie a couple of years ago and guess what....I ended up with a lovely, shiny N-series Clie paperweight. :(

Lessons learned the hard way are the ones that stick with ya the most. ;)

I think JackSprat is required to actually delete pre-installed programs from ROM. It was available for OS 4, but not OS 5.

Otherwise everyone here would've replaced the old NF with the new one! ;)

Nope, but its much faster and is can reconfigure a page nicely (eg. zoom in on a frame and no side scrolling)

yeah, it's cool how you can browse off your CLIE and visit Cliesource. & reply to threads and stuff. but nonetheless, screen size with all the scrolling could get a bit annoying. :D

But considering how tiny the unit is, it's just one alternative that we have to stick with for now. :D

I tried the new TH55 organizer files on the NX70. They didn't work too well. I received a fatal error and it locked up. I haven't aggressively investigated why though...

Really like the NF 3.1.

I've noticed that in NF 3.1 when replying to messages on this board, the "enter" button doesn't work. i.e. you can't insert a blank space in between lines.

I have a NX-73 and still trying to import them to MS then move them to System RAM but no luck I get " Cannot move file or memory full" Errors !!!

I have NX80. I have NF3.1 working in Flash memory. I followed the steps in this thread.
1) Using DataImport I copied the Netfront3.prc to memory stick in the Launcher folder.
2) Using FileZ I moved netfront3 found in launcher directory on my memory stick to the "PalmCard", the hit DONE
3) Found Netfront3 on PalmCard using FileZ. I notice there is one in ROM (I have ROM checked on the bottom so I can see this) but I don't use that one....I choose NetFront3 which doesn't have little memory symbol next to it and lock and then I choose DETAILS.
4) On the General screen I change the name to NetFront31 and the Version ID to 2 (from 1).
5) Hit SAVE in FileZ.
6) Now I did soft reset but not sure if necessary.
7) Open JackFlash and use it to move Netfront from RAM to FLASH.
8) Open Netfront 3.1.
PS I also see Netfront 3 in my launcher (ZLauncher) but I moved it to my "unused" category and haven't tried to run it as I'm not that brave right now.

I copy Netfront 3.1 to MS and run it from the MS by ZLauncher. It works fine. I think you must have enough RAM. I have 9.5M free...

Just double checked. I don't see any other settings I could have missed....anything with FileZ......I can't imagine why. This whole procedure went smooth as silk and took about 2 minutes to complete for me....so perhaps we can find someone who worked through the same problems you're experiencing to help. Anyone? I Finally got it working .... on our NX-73 !!!! hahahah

Instead of using FileZ or McFiles to move NF3.1 to PalmCard use " Zlauncher " to move the NF3.1 from MS to RAM !!!! then change the VERSION ID from (1) to (2) !!!! and now it's working fine !!!!

But I still can't move NF3.1 to Flash using JackFlash thou .... it said not enough space .... ! wARsZaWiaK if u need more help just PM or leave a msg here BUT tell me which steps you are at ...

I also want to thank Dripps for his detailed account of how to get Netfront 3.1 into Flash. These past couple days I've tried to do it with Zlauncher, but with no luck. Today I tried doing it with Filez. It worked but when I would tap the icon for netfront it reverted back to netfront3.0. I then proceeded to back 3.1 out of flash and start all over. However, this time the icon for Netfront just disappeared for some reason. I was like: "Where the heck did it go?". I looked in my 'Unfiled' and 'All' tabs, but it was nowhere to be found. I then decided to once again back 3.1 out of flash and do it all over again. Finally, the icon came back in the 'Unfiled' tab and moved it on over to my 'Main' tab and voila. Netfront 3.1 is now in flash! After a couple days of using it, I must say that I'm glad I decided to go with the NX80V instead of the new TH. Netfront 3.1 is a great improvement. Overall navigation is much, much easier using the jogdial/keyboard. Sony/Access should definitely consider sending out an upgrade, regardless of whether or not they attach a price to it...

YAY! I followed Litespeed, by using ZL, and it works! Just transferred to Flash. Now I have 2 icons, for NF 3 and NF 3.1.

For those of you having problems installing, the thing to do is to do an MSBackup before you do anything, go into that particular MSBackup folder, and delete EVERY file you just backed up. In its place, put the new Netfront PRC in. Go into MSBackup, select the one you edited, and hit restore. Boom, should be a clean install.

I had the EXACT same problem in my quest to get this thing on my NX80V. You simply cannot hotsync this thing over into RAM. The OS just has a cow when you try it that way. Again, has to be installed to MS first, then imported to main memory via Zlauncher or Mcfile. FileZ just wouldn't do it for me.

i did not fix it.I was running NF31 from memory stick so I transfered to clie and I had 1 icon till hot sync then I got second NF3 icon and now I have two again.

I don't have it to try (hint, hint) but after reading other posts and other forums regarding the organizer I don't think it's all it was cracked up to be. So I've not spend any more time looking for it and/or trying to get it running. Anyone with TH think this is the best organizer app? It would take a lot to be better than just using Datebk5. Clie Organizer CANNOT work on the NXs. It requires Sony's 123mHz multimedia proccessor just like the UXs 3D launcher. The reason people have gotten it to work on the UX is because it has that proccessor ;)

meir87, i doubt its the processor that is the problem, its most like the version os palmos on ux.

wARsZaWiaK, maybe trying overclocking yer nx73v, i'm currently running nf3.1 and it was pretty fast, but i overclocked it using PXA Clocker and have it clocked to 300mhz, and its fast.. super fast.. i can finally browse the internet on my clie without gettin annoyed.
Only thing that still bugs me is how fast wifi drains the battery, and how hot my wifi cards gets. One time i plugged in the power cable and left my clie connected to the net, about an hour after i felt the back of the clie and it was HOT, not hot that i couldn't touch it, but was pretty hot that worried me so i turned off my clie. anyone else noticed this on their nx80's or 73's?

I've been experimenting with intalling the TH55 Clie Organizer on my NX70, here's the results:

Using FileZ, installing all files based on CliePet's post results in a crash.

Installing only the following files:
- CLIE Organizer
- CLIEOrganizerCommonSkin
- CLIEOrganizerIcon
- Address Sort Library
- NmDrawLib
- NmLib
- TabUILib

allows CO to be installed, no errors after soft-reset. BUT when starting CO, it crashes too. Installing this with any of the CO apps (Applications, FreeNotes, Memopad, etc) doesn't work either :(


All the crashes report the same message:
"SystemMgr.c, Line 5804,
SysLinkerStub(): Failed to load the shared library."

I am guessing that we need the prc file that holds the SysLinkerStub() function. Guessing also based on its name, this function most probably links the new CO apps to the Palm apps DBs.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Oooh, so possibly close to getting CO running on the NXs....

Um..when I do heavy duty stuff, like playing mp3's for a couple of hours with Sony studio monitor headphones while reading AvantGo the back of my NX80V near the battery area gets noticeably warm...but never really HOT per se.

Wierd...my 73 never gets warm. I know my father's 60 does and its almost unbearable.
