I'm a newbie to PDA's (just got started 1/19/04), so bear with me if this is sounds like a stupid question.

1. I currently have the NX73V and will be going to exchange it for the NX80V due to the price drop.

Anyway, what steps should I take to sync the new NX80V when I get it. I always hot sync my current NX73V to my desktop computer in order to back it up. I also have a Memory Stick Pro 256mb. If you try to sync the new NX80V with the "old" NX73V data, will it restore everything. Don't know if this matters or not, but I always have to sign in, in order to sync stuff (intentional, because I'm not the only one using my computer).

2. Also, does my memory stick need to be formatted? What benefit does formatting provide? I have a SanDisk and I didn't format it when I bought it but I have a bunch of applications on it.

3. I also read about people using Flash (?) to store applications. Can this please be explained to me?

Thanks in advance!

Is it really necessary to upgrade from a unit with the same instructiion manual??? The only difference is the Camera basically.

Yep, the NX73 and the NX80 are really the same machine, and you should have no problem syncing your new NX80 with the data of your NX73, the only difference betwen both is the camera.

You should buy JackFlash for using the ROM of the NX80 for getting your apps on it. This way you'll get 16mb rom and 16mb ram, total 32 usable memory.

More questions?? just ask

1. To sync up the new NX80, just put it in the cradle and just sync it. It shouldn't prompt you to sign in because it's a new Clie. The very first thing HotSync will do is reinstall all of your stuff since the last timed you synced your NX73 onto the new NX80. After you sync the first time, you may have to redo some settings. I'm not sure what they all are, but you may have to. The second time you sync up with the new NX80, you should be prompted to sign in. That's because now, after the 1st HotSync, you should have all of the stuff from your NX73.

2. The Memory Sticks should already be formatted when you buy them. I always reformat any new media I buy, but that's just me. There might be a way to reformat the MS256PRO (I have one too) to get more than just 227MB of space, and I'm sure it's somewhere on this website. Just do a search and you should be able to find something on it.

3. Just as jfer_rs stated, JackFlash on the NX80 yields an extra 15MB-16MB of space in ROM for you to use. I moved from an NX60 and the extra space is great. Well worth the investment to get JackFlash. It's pretty straightforward on how to move programs from RAM to Flash once you get the program. You start up the program and you'll see a list of programs and databases that are installed on your Clie. Next to each program, there's going to be a setting that allows you to either delete the program/database, put it in RAM, put it in Flash, or beam the program to someone else. I suggest you download the demo version from www.palmgear.com to really see for yourself.

You might want to check out some of the thread on this website, as I just saw an NX80 for $299. It should still be current...I saw it last night. Good luck and enjoy your new NX80.
