I currently use the SJ33 and when I get the new TH55, I want to be able to import my PIM data (address mostly and schedule). Can this be done easily, like a simple back-up and then restore it on the new Clie or what?

its probably recommended that you install your old apps onto the new TH one by one. Don't restore from your backup on your PC, since it contains apps that are SJ33 native. It will screw your TH bad.

Okay thanks. One other question and I'll probably look really stupid for asking this, but I've never used OS5 so bear with me: will OS4 apps work on OS5? Is it backwards compatible?

most OS4 apps will work on OS5, except for your hacks, and a few others.

FYI: Sony includes a migration tool with their PDAs.

In case you're wondering, here's the link to the latest migration tool software:

Shouldn't you just be able to hot syc and transfer everything from NX80v to TH55?

I'm going to have two Clies syncing with the same computer for the first time. One will be my old S320 (which my wife gets) and the other will be my TH-55.

Is it okay to run two versions of Palm Desktop? Any issues with syncing these two devices on the same computer?

You shouldn't have to run to versions of the Palm Desktop - you should just assign a new user name to the TH55 that is unique to that device - say JumyG for your TH55 and your wife's is MrsJumpyG. The names need to be unique enough not to get confused with each other but your S320 will work with the "newer" Palm Desktop (should) but since we haven't actually seen the desktop yet - be certain to read thoroughly the instructions when you get it.

I've upgraded desktops on Palms and then to a T615 and then to a Tungsten T with no issues so don't expect any here either.

But the new features of the Clie Organizer almost lend me to believe that Sony has updated it's destop components to where there might be some differences that are worth reading the instructions.

Moose--What happens when I launch the Clie Desktop software? Does it give me a choice whether to view my data or my wife's?

I don't yet have the TH55 I"ve ordered so I can't tell you how different it is from the current Clie Desktop app. I'd suspect that it's similar to the Palm Desktop that I'm familar with but this new PIM applications on the TH55 may throw a wrench into the works.

You'll have to get the specifics when you load the software, I guess unless someone else jumps in here. :)

Based upon my experience with the Palm Desktop - you simply select the user that you want to view. When I had a T615 that was exactly the same method for it at that time however I'm just not familiar enough to say here.

I agree about only one desktop (uninstall the first version & install the latest) & having unique names for the two PDAs.

That said, if you have shareware software registered to the first PDA, it will not run after expiration on the "renamed" PDA & this could cause a problem.

If you have only freeware or no additional software, no problem at all.
