i don't know the release date of the55 in uk, until now there's no th55 in uk.
the problem is that sony uk (www.sony.co.uk) and mikro anvika (www.mikroanvika.com) don't want to ship outside uk.

yes, i tried purchasing something from www.sonystyle.co.uk and they refused to ship to the US. I suppose we can get it off from www.expansys-usa.com but the pricing there is outragous.

One thing to remember is that if you purchase your Clie from the US or Canada, you can extend the 3 month warranty to 12 months. Not sure if this warranty extension is valid for outside these countries but I tend to think not.

Something to consider...

i bet you could get dynamism.com to import one for you if you ask them to. (or tkny.com) Your best bet is the first one.

From today the TH55 is out to Pre-Order in germany as mention above. Shipping-date(<is this correct?) is middle March.
The price is about 399euro with all taxes which is equal to 311 US-Dollar.

I hope all you guys are able to get an european TH55!
It´s irrelevant where you order the european TH55 because the european version does always have 3 languages (english, german, french).

But i have luck. I live in germany!
Weeeehaaa can´t wait to get my new toy. :p

Last I checked (yeserday), the Euro was equal to about $1.28. Thus if it costs 399 Euros, it'd cost over $500 dollars, no?

Hoo, and the UK isn't getting *too* ripped off this time - it's £299, which is about 423 Euros vs. the 311 of the rest of Europe.

BTW did anyone notice that for the Wirless stuff it says "Wireless connectivity: Yes, with optional card" ???!?!?!?!?!?!

But at the top it says "Built-in Wireless LAN (IEEE802.11B) and Bluetooth®"........

Good way to fill people with FUD and confusion...!

thats absolutely correct-the EURO is about 1.3Dollars.
check this out:
http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

I checked it out the other way arround since I´d like to get a TH55 in the US:) I don´t need and want bluetooth and WiFi, so I´ll try to find a way of getting a model from the US. Why didn´t they make a TH44 -> TH55 without BT and WiFi?!

I don`t inderstand why they don`t wait until the higher device are released in April. They will have BT on them for sure.oh well fools and their money soon part.

To clear up confusion, the price is listed as 399.99 pounds, not euros. That equates to $565 US dollars. Pretty steep, since that doesn't even include the shipping costs yet.

Ya think Canada might get BT? How are you Canoodians doing with the BT integration?

Regarding the 'wireless with optional card' statement, they probably mean that it'll hook up with other things if the other thing has an optional card. I suspect they don't want people to think they can just wave it at their PC and it'll talk with no other hardware.

xynos
02-13-2004, 10:39 AM
check out sonystyle in Canada - no BT either.

Nooo! It definitely says £299.99 - Two Hundred and Ninety Nine!

I'd recommend getting it from a country in Europe - the markup won't be anywhere near as high as in the UK!

We should check to see which European country gets it cheapest, and then get the nearest ClieSource member who is VAT/tax exempt that lives there to buy lots of them in bulk (For Bulk Discount ;)) and sell them on :D

To those seriously considering importing the European model, are you really going to pay $563 (without shipping) just for bluetooth? I would just purchase it for $319 at BestBuy and just get the bluetooth card. Sure would be a lot cheaper. But that's just me...

MS BT has been discontinued.. How would we connect the US TH55 to our BT phones?

Too late to purchase it at BB. It is no longer listed.

Not a great surprise, really.

Alright my bad then.

Maybe we should all buy a bunch of U.S. TH's and then sell them over in Europe for a profit (and still much cheaper than what they're asking for). Then we could probably save and finally afford a European BT model.

Also, discontinued BT MS doesn't necessarily mean it's not supported. Time to scour eBay.

It seems like there will be some "morphologic" problems with a BT-MS. I saw on that french clie site, that the MS is inserted to the side of the unit and has a door which is closed over it. So unless the BT-MS hasn´t got the same dimensions as a normal MS it might not be possible to use it:-(.

I just gotta get rid of this:I´m VERY unhappy with sonys price politics. Why do they have to make their products SO expensive here in europe? Do they think we have more bucks than anyone else? I have to find a way to get my hands on an US TH55, and I don´t care about it not having BT since its going to save me money I don´t have.

Hey guys,

Just to tell, euro price is told to be 399€ (449 for France :| ) but i'm sure we'll find it between 350 and 400 for the release days ; many specialised sony retailers always offer lower prices than sony official ones. The device is told to be available on 3/15 ;

Would you be interested in making kind of group order for some euro models ?

I'm personnaly enjoying my jpn ux device bought at a price i could afford, because a nice japanese guy and now friend bought it for me. This also enables me to have a full warranty by hipping it back to him if a problem occurs.
Just for people who gonna see this topic as a commercial issue, i'm not considering it as a business at all ; i also have a few thing i'd like to be shipped from us btw .

Hello c0mm0n:
I am of Barcelona (Spain) and travel the month from April to Paris. You could indicate to me where I can buy the TH55 to good price in Paris?

Thanks

Hi Berni,

The 2 best places for sony products in paris are mgmi and alifax ;
www.mgmi.fr - www.alifax.fr

Mgmi is slighly cheaper than alifax ; they also both accept pre-orders abd are reliable so u may be tempted to book yours ;

I'm waiting for mgmi feedback about their price and avaiability.

Thank you very much!!

At the moment I have a Zire 71, but I have fallen in love with the TH55. That is fantastic. I like much his design, its power and its software.

I am going to take advantage of the trip to Paris to buy it.

Thanks for your information.

N770C/E The BT MS is longer than a regular MS. If the door must indeed be closed for a stick to function, a BT MS would not be an option, even if you could get one.

So, over $500 clams for a BT Clie, with that scalable processor (boo, hiss), not an enormous amount of RAM and so close to OS6/Cobalt release? Hmm - unless my Clie were in serious decline, I'd think hard about that Euro TH55.

But, people have been waiting so long for a hi-res, tablet-only, virtual grafitti Clie with WiFi and BT, I can understand the eagerness to snatch up the TH! .:)

Just MHO, YMMV

We "Uneducated Americans" could get the math right before we post.

Anyway, I will wait for the release in Germany, It will only cost about $420 because we "Uneducated Americans" in Germany do not have to pay the VAT.

The warranty is only good for the country it is purchased in. You can buy one and use it overseas, but for any warranty service/repair, you would need to return it to the country of purchase.

Just so you're aware, the door does NOT have to be closed in order for the MS to work. Heck if you didn't like it, you could just rip the door off. It's just a plastic door with no conditionaly wiring to tell the unit that it's closed and you can operate your MS or a BT MS with it.

However, I read in another post that the drivers might not work too well with the TH. And if that's the case, couldn't we just 'borrow' the bluetooth drivers from a European TH?
