Hey guys,
I just got a new video editing rig in my office for me to do my trip videos on and I've been using the old for about a week to encode tons of stuff for my clie. I'm curious to see if any of you guys would be interested in copies of my stuff. I'm trying to decide either to put it all on ftp site or just send it out on cd.. don't know.
Anyway, if you want any of it let me know.
I've got: (and this list is abbreviated.. I have alot more but this is all I've got time to type down.)
Tons of episodes of:
Seinfeld
Kids in the Hall
70's Show
Kung Fu TV
Tons of foreign commercials, etc
Ren and Stimpy
SNL Ambigously Gay Duo
SNL Sketches
Newsradio
Anyway, let me know...

Personally I would love to get Kids in the Hall episodes. These guys are incredibly funny and talented. I was lucky enough to see them in Seattle in what was, I believe, one of their last live shows. Amazing, and if you are from the Pacific Northwest it might interest you to know they were introduced by the cast of Almost Live.
If you decide to set up an FTP please let us know, I think it would be a great contribution to the community.

If you do a search for clie videos ftp in cliesource you'll find a ftp site already set up, with an offsite forum about it <http://www.ncoday.com/forum/index.php>
How big are the files? I might want some KITH episodes.

Nothing wrong with having another one. All the stuff he's listed, NCO doesn't have (and/ or has no intention of ever uploading)
I personally would LOVE to get Seinfeld on my NX80V. I am a Seinfeld fanatic!
I also like funny commericials, and the SNL gay duo is a hoot!

Guys,
I'll post them on ftp next week...or actually probably this weekend. I'll make sure to post the site here. The episode files for things like KITH and Seinfeld run around 15megs per 30 minutes.. so about 12-18 megs per episode. The commercials and misc things are obviously smal due to length.
Anyway, check back here this weekedn on sunday and ill post the ftp address.
Have a good one.

Great! Many thanks in advance. That size for Seinfeld is perfect..not too bad at all! God..I could load several episodes onto my 128MB memory stick.

One caveat though..that FTP site is DEATHLY slow every time I have tried it.

Don't worry I'll post it on my own site. I have a fast t-3 backbone at work.
I'll only be able to keep it up for a day or two before bandwidth goes nuts, so get it all fast!

Echoing somebody else's post... I too would like to know sizes. Given most of the shows you mentioned are 1/2 hour shows... or approx. 15min. w/o commercials (assuming that you got your stuff off of DVD or something), how big are the files?
I went to that site mentioned in an earlier post (http://www.ncoday.com/forum/index.php) and there are lots of things to download there... but it looks like you don't know the specs on what you download (i.e. folks can upload stuff, so they're not all created in the same method. I say that because one thing I downloaded played fine while another didn't... ).
Also for example, I downloaded a ep. of Family Guy... just to see the quality level when I played it back on my NZ90. It was great quality, and it played pretty well when I moved the view to landscape and maximized it... but it was also over 80Mb. That's just too large for approx. 15min of video. If I wanted 10 things like that, it'd be ~800Mb and I'd need a 1Gb ms.
So how big are yours? I'm curious to be able to down load one to see how it compares.
And for anybody who *really* knows, I'm still trying to find a EASY way to rip something off of DVD and eventually get it massaged into a format to be played on the Clie. I know that most people say you have to have it in the correct format first to then use sony's Image Converter to put in the .MQV format for Clie viewing.
I've read lots of people's write-ups... but nothing that wasn't really complicated and required purchased software packages. There's got to be somebody out there that's got this down pat. I sooo much want to be able to rip some of my DVD's for my own viewing.
Thanks,
-chris

Woot! Can't wait to load these on my MS...it will sure make my two hour dental cleanings a lot more pleasant!
lymond
02-12-2004, 03:37 PM
Some of them are things I downloaded, some are rips from DVD's .. depends. But if its a DVD here is what I do.
I have DVD X COPY, so I burn a copy of the DVD to VCD at about 70% compression. (I either burn it to a RAM CD DRIVE AS VCD OR burn an actual CDRW which I then reuse later)
Then I load the finished VCD mpg file into Imageconverter and presto! Done! On my machine I can do a 20 min episode in about 25 minutes total. Not to bad. So far I've got about 4 gigs archived of the stuff.

Thanks for the reply lymond... but I'd hate to have to purchase a product (the DVD X Copy) before I can at least test it out. Also just out of curiosity, which *type* of DVD X Copy did you use, since according to their website there's like 4 versions... :)

What speed processor I would be interested to know, took me about 2 hours to convert to DivX5 using DVDx 2.2 using a 2.4GHz P4
Or were you just thinking about on the fly copying?

Fez,
As I stated before, I'll try to get them up on Sunday. I'll post the ftp site then.
As for the question on processor speed, my old rig is dual 2.8 processors with 2gig of ram. The encoding time I mentioned was for going from DVD to VCD, not counting the time imageconverter took. WHen I do episodes I downloaded as MPG, I have to run them thru TMPencode and that generally takes 9-11 minutes per 30 min of footage. Not too bad. Then again, I convert it in Imageconverter. Since IC is the slowest part of the process, what I've been doing this week since dedicating that machine to conversion is ripping everythnig to VCD or TMP'ing it to MPG and then copying all the MPG files into one directory. Then I plug my personal firewire backupdrive into the system and before I leave for home, I load 20-30 of them into IC and tell it to run. When I come to work in the morning, presto... all done.

Instead of an ftp have you thought about setting up a bit torrent file?
Using azerus you can go into a torrent and select only the files you want to download, however having your ftp as one single torrent would ease your bandwith concerns and keep it up as a server for longer.
greyGizmo
02-12-2004, 11:37 PM
The way that I convert my DVDs to Clie-friendly versions is ver simple, but it takes longer than lymonds method.
I use a free version of EasyVCD to create an Mpeg file of the video, then just pop that into ImageConverter. The entire process takes about twice the length of the film, but is free and easy. I have only used it for full-length films though, so I don't know how well it would work for episode-type DVDs such as Seinfeld.

Guys,
First Seinfeld videos are going up.. so check them out in about 30min. I'll keep uploading tommorow from work where I have 1mb up/down.
After Seinfeld, I'll put up a few R&S, some commercials and then I'll put up some 70's and Newsradio...
Also, please, nothing personal but .... NO REQUESTS for videos I don't already have. I have time to convert what I already have but not to do requests.
Sorry it's so slow in getting things uploaded, I'm just monitoring my bandwidth on my personal site, closely. Feel free to check out the website: www.christianodell.com I'll give some very nice discounts to anyone from here if they want to buy a pic or two.
ANyway, the website for the videos is: www.christianodell.com/private_download/

Since I was at home and use dial-up (i know i know) would have taken an ice age to download. Now I'm at school on high speed access and *POOF* no more Seinfeld available. ALrighty Then!
Well, found out my problem was that on my photog site, the host company had restricted my bandwidth since I've had alot of traffic lately. Which is crap since I've got a 500meg storage and 50gig throughput quota. Ill have to call them and straighten it out tommorow. Which may take a few days as they never answer the phone... so I'm going to switch the files to my other site. The site is www.odellevangelism.org/private_download/
I'll start reupping them now, it'll take a bit.. so check in on them from hour to hour. (Slow uplink)
AND no cracks about the other site, it's my day job and I love doing it so be kind!

1) rename file to .mov

3) played movie with movie player
The movie clip progresses but I have no picture or sound.

Do not rename them. Change the name to MOV00001.MQV, MOV00002.MQV, MOV00003.MQV Etc. Don't run them through the IC.

Interesting experience trying to get these 2 episodes onto my NX80.
Using ImageConverter (it took a while) I converted them to my Clie. Then I went to play them and it played for 1 second then quit. Deleted the movie and tried again. Same result. 1 second of playback time on a 20+ MB file. Then I wised up & used Data Import and just dragged both files into the MQ_ROOT Folder on the MS. Renamed them to MOV00001.MQV (etc.) and presto!

Welcome to Lymond's House of Episodes.
If you can mirror this stuff, please do so for me. My bandwidth is limited and I have to maintain the
majority of it for my personal stuff, as that is my living.
So anyway, it wont be until the end of the week that I can finish uploading all 200 videos
but be patient and I'll get there. Little by little.
PS I'm leaving on a trip to India this week on Thursday, so whatever I dont finish uploading
now this week will have to wait until the 3rd of March when I come back.
PSS If anyone wants to mirror this stuff that I'm uploading, let meknow and I'll mail you a DVD-R

Now he is away in the land of curry, sacred cows & Apu from the Quickie Mart until March 3 (only next Wednesday). Hey,
Is there a certain timeframe during the day when we need to d/l these? I just went to the site and attempted d/l's, but got 404 errors...
Thanks,
Jeremy

Sorry abvout the site guys.. I hit my bandwidth limit pretty fast last month.. it'll be back up in a couple of days with a dedicated site for the uploads and no bandwidth issues...
In the meantime, whoever it was that wanted seinfeld, gimme your email and ill be happy to burn you a cd/dvd of all my stuff...
