Hi,

Someone on Pdafrance forums reported that a new update for mapsonic should be released on 2/14 ; main added features were told to be 3d and night views which were the biggest lacks towards pda market reference tomtom. The update will be free and confirms the trimestrial major updates announcement made in december as the ux/T3 version was released.

A pdf was first offered presenting the new features but it has been removed so nothing conrete yet but release date is very soon :)

look here:

Mapsonic problem (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37858)

And the last answer from ViaMichelin was:

"Maybe we make a couple of test"

And the last answer I got from Viamichelin (on Tuesday this week) was:

"We would like to inform you that there is no problem with MapSonic. It is no software problem of MapSonic if the program informs you that the connection is lost."

So it doesn't look too promising.

I've quiclky tested it last week with socket/emtac gps ; hadn't noticed any trouble but actually haven't used it too long to tell

I know someone who made a review with the emtac model and had no problems with it ; i'm sure he made a very extensive use and advanced testing of the software ;

His ux is standard euro model, mine is a japanese one

I'll try to find out if i can get more infos about that

I'd be very interested to see how your tests go. I find that I get the problem maybe 2 out of every 3 times that I use Mapsonic. Mine is a US-model UX50.

The 3D view made me very interested in TomToms upcoming release. Be nice to see that in MapSonic. Now, if only they bluetooth bug is miraculously fixed in this version I'll be a very happy bunny! Hope it does appear tomorrow...

Any news if this version will cure the bug on loosing GPS connection via bluetooth that ViaMichellen refuses to acknowledge?

RikF
02-17-2004, 10:27 AM
there has been no mention of a big fix - hardly supprising when you consider that they refuse to admit that their is one.

However....

When a new version of any s/w is released, new bugs do tend to appear, along with old ones vanishing, 'just because'. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm also going to try Mapsonic with my phones bluetooth disabled on the way home tonight.

Does this mean that Viamichelin now actually acknowledge the existence of a GPS bluetooth problem? I was just about to contact my credit card company to obtain a refund, as Viamichelin have not replied to my last 2 emails (I was asking for either a fix or a refund).

The guy who gave me thins info got it from viamichelin ; they asked him to make a user list, quite the same that has been made here.

Actually they know something is wrong, they also know it's related to their software; not the ux nor the gps unit.

Can't tell you that's gonna be fixed, but i really think they gonna work on it as it's a major problem

All,

The new software looks great. GPS problem still exists, but I did get an email saying that they are looking into the problem this week. One word of warning, when you install the patch, it installs in french - you need to change the language back to English in the paremeters screen.

All,

Forget what I said above, I am (for the time being), going back
to the old version withought night display and the 3D view. Why?
Well, I have made 4 trips using the new software and found a few
minor and one major problem with it. Has anybody else
experienced these problems:

1) MINOR - in night view 3d, the green 'path' sometimes vanishes
and shows you path as white. But as all roads are white, you
dont know where to go.
2) MINOR - The refresh rate of the screen is very slightly slower
than the previous version
3) MINOR - On the standard view, the 'you are here' position
cursor is a little higher up on the screen, which actually means
that on the display, you see more of where you have been and
a lot less of where you are going. I guess the 'where you are'
is supposed to be in the middle of the screen, but as the top 1/4
of the screen is taken up with the turn directions etc, you only
have 1/4 of the screen height with the roads ahread now
4) MAJOR - In all 4 trips that I have taken, the program falls over
with an 'out of memory' error - even though I have 6.2Mb of free
memory on the clie.

For information, I also received a reply from Viamichellin on these
bugs and the Bluetooth issue, which I present in its wonderful
original 'broken english' format:

We would like to inform you that our technical department is
treating this subject actually. Please note that we not give
you any information about this subject at moment, because
we are waiting for any response of the department in charge. We
thank you in advance for your patience.

Anybody else see any problems with the new version of the
softare?
