View Full Version : Out of topic: NEW Cybershot cameras?
Sorry out of topic but this is the best forum I can find.
Does anyone know if sony is planning on comming out with newer models of the Cybershot P10/P8 that has the 30fps video?
I like my tiny T1 but the flash is SMALLLL only upto 6 feet. P10 flash is 13-15feet

I have the T1 too. And not many US people have it yet. Anyway, are you on crack. The screen is about twice as big as any camera on the market including SLR's. The size for a 5mp camera can't be compared to anything and it's built like a tank. This camera is a pocket camera that can be taken anywhere for the person who still wants great pics and not some 1.3mp party camera. If you want something nicer there's is plenty of options for the price we paid. Something like the P10 is in the middle. It doesn't take the best picks and it's not that small. Sorry but, you should really be looking at the new Canon S500, it's probably the closest competition. Better pictures and flash but I'm not giving up that screen and battery life (amazing right?, I took 120 pics and it still gave me 25min) for anything.

I just bought the Sony DSC-V1 on sale and so far love it. My last camera was an older olympus (2.5 mp) so really like having the 5mp. I looked at Sony's ultra compact new 5mp camera but the reviews down graded it for a weaker flash and so so image quality. All the reviews for the DSC-V1 came back very very good. I love the night shot / night framing and the holographic auto focus (is that a cheesy term or what!).
I searched as much as I could to see if sony was announcing a new mid range camera but could not find ANYTHING other than the new ultra compact unit.

The V1 is huge by comparison. The T1 is in competition mostly with Pentax S and the Casio serious. Just in case you guys noticed, Sony is coming out with the W1 that is just 1/2in thicker than the T1 but for only an MSRP of $400. So we could probably get it for $300. Also, the canons are getting smaller too. The V1 competes more witht the G3. Anyway, all the new Sony's record at 30fps for as long as the MS can hold. Also, the new P100 is going to be quite good, a little bigger than the W1 and T1, also the P93 is a little bigger with even a smaller screen and it's going to have 5mp as well. Oh, the W1 is the only one besides the T1 to have a 2.5in screen, the P100 has a 1.8in and the P93 has a 1.5in screen. Hope that helps and sorry if my early message was a little to aggressive.

The new line-up, especially the P100 and W1, looks very impressive!

Dont get me wrong. I love my T1. I like the 30fps video too. Its nice to take 1-3 min videos on trips if something "spontaneous/funny" is happening plus you dont have to wait for the lens to come out either.
Those new cameras look like but as you can see the P100 and the W1 both have the small flash. I would give up running time if they added a bigger flash.
I wonder how large the P93 will be. Hopefully smaller then the current P92?

Rosenkrantz. where did you buy and for what price?
I've been looking for a good deal on the DSC-V1. I know the retail price recently went down by $100 but I'm looking for under $400.
Other Cybershot owners, I welcome your responses.

Here's my opinion:
If you're getting a camera because it's small enough so you would take it anywhere, realize it could more than easily break. That's why I bought a Cybershot U30, which is cheap and takes excellent pictures given you aren't moving haphazardly (it is easy to blur unfortunately).
When I have enough money to buy a camera for ultra-quality (8+ MP) photos, I will buy a traditional lensed digital, which would only cost $1000.
To spend $200 on a super durable 2MP is smart.
To spend $1000 on a very high quality 8+MP is a good investment.
To spend $500 on a somewhat durable 5MP which won't allow for any zoom lenses or give any creative freedom is just silly.
Get a high and a low and you'll have the right tool for the right job.

Im not sure what you mean by "won't allow for any zoom lenses". The T1 has a 3x optical and 6x total digitcal zoom.
Basically perfect camera if it had a larger flash. Really cant get any better then that! Sucks that the DSC-W1 flash looks small too.
It seems like a lot of people dont really mind smaller flash. Is there something Im missing when taking pictures? Wont they be dark?

I like the new Sony DSC-W1, looking forward reading some reviews first so I can upgrade from my old good canon ixus 330 (powershot S330 in the US)
