Hey,

I am deciding whether to get a Ipaq 1940 or a Sony Clie SJ33/T665C/TJ35. I prefer the look of Clies, plus I have a Sony Laptop so it will be easier with the memory stick.

The thing that I don't know, is how powerfull are the 66mhz DragonBall devices? Can I run reasonable games like Warfare Inc on it?

Anyway, what would you recommend for me? Thanx

Is there any particular reason you've listed the SJ/T665/TJ? They're certainly not the fastest PDAs available . . . . and are you going to be doing anything other than gaming with it?

TJ35 isnt a 66mhz dragonball
it's a 200 MHz Motorola i.MXL processor.

Depends on a lot of things, but if that's all you're providing ...

1940.

Hey, it was me who started the thread. I forgot I already registered here :)

Anyway, I got upto £200 to spend.
Ipaq 1940 is the clear favourite, but i want background mp3 playback which only t665 and sj33 can provide.

Plus Os4 is too old for my liking and probably playing snes games will be fun.

Any advice
Thanx

???? The Ipaq is a PPC device so it can multitask anything. Of course you can background-play mp3 on it. You may even have trouble closing it, actually!

SJ/T665 are getting old. You'll be itching for a new PDA very soon, which is not healthy. The TJ35 lacks office suite and voice rec compared to the 1940. Anyway, if you're looking forward to "play" with it then PPC is clearly the choice.

The Ipaq 1940 is by far the best among your choices.

I'd agree with Marre, the ipaq is the best choice. I've heard the 1940 performs quite well in SNES/NES (its 266 mhz processor provides greater performance than some xscale 400). It's also really small and has bluetooth.

The TJ might be a good choice if you just really want a Palm.

btw, all of them can play mp3 in background.

No, but I meant play mp3 in the background without slowing down. TJ35 can't do that, and I doubt the Ipaq 1940 can play snes with mp3 at the same time (judging by toshiba e310 with nes emu i had in the past)

In case you wonder, the SJ/T665 do slow down when playing mp3. The processor still has to send stuff to the audio adapter, y'know.

Even desktops slow down with Winamp in background.

Okay, so now I have narrowed it down to Ipaq 1940 vs Clie TJ35.

I have a Sony laptop and that is nicer for memory sticks.
Are games like Game Gear playable on the TJ with the weird up-down joystick? Games are the only reason I am considering the the Ipaq as Palm can do anything else.

since when has an snes emulator been out for palm? Or is that ppc?

Personally, I would wait for the TJ-37, less bugs more use!! :)

I'd get an iPaq 1940, since PPC could run complex emulators

Sorry to get a bit off topic here ... but with all this talk about emulators ... where do you get the games from ? Do you download them ?

Typically these older games are found on SNES and NES game cartridges. How do you get them into a format to load to your Palm or PPC?

the 1940 will be able to easily play mp3 and NES. It might be able to handle mp3 and snes for simple games (Super Mario world), of course sound would have been be disabled in SNES and sound chip emulation would have to be turned off (which would get more speed, but some games will crash at points). 1940 won't slow with mp3 in the background unless it's a really really intensive task (on my pocket pc i've ran 1 video, and 2 mp3's at the same time without slowdown)

You can use a rom dumper to computer, or do the non-legal way of downloading them.

Hey, you are supposed to recommend Clies not PPC's :)

Anyway, I am going to get a Palm because a Pocket PC is unusable for PDA stuff like address book etc. (I had 2 PPC's).

So now it's a decision between TJ35 and NX73V.

i'd say 73
