OK. I did it!!!!
Last time I was feeling more and more uncomfortable with my Clié. Not that it´s a bad machine, oh no, I love it....but..........always when I switched it on it felt like a brick on my heart.
More than 100 apps, knows the h*** how many databases, e-books, games.....................:(
Once I bought my first Palm because I wanted it to make my life easier, better organized, more time for the important things. In the meanwhile the Palm became another, of course better, Palm and than a Clié and the purpose of this gadget went out of sight.
I didn´t spend more time with the important things but less. More and more I became a slave of the Clié, not viceversa.
No, that´s not how it was meant to be, for me at least.
So I decided to to a hard reset, restore my ROM with JackSprat (worked like a charm), and here I have a brand new Clié.
This is a load off:)
I will begin from scratch.
The only thing I´ll restore is my address database. Wouldn´t make so much sense to write xxx addresses again in my Clié. But thats it.
I download and try a few progs, datebook apps or so and only if I´m sure it will fit my needs I will, hehehe, enter the regcode (or, if I find another one, purchase it).
What can´t be done with life, it´s possible with the Clié...........new beginning.
I feel free..............:) :) :) :)

These day´s I´ve been reading a lot of messages about people who messed with their wifes (husbands?) or got broke with the purchase of a NZ!
I think I need a break from all this gadgetitis:D
I will enjoy this site even more, now I freed up a little space of my memory:cool:

I've done that before.
It was amazing to me, that even when I installed ALL the programs I had on my Clie before the hard reset, I still had more memory than I did before I started. Guess 'leftovers' are like dustbunnies. They multiply if left alone . . .
;)
Organization of your Clie like anything else is the key. Wow that rhymes.

I remember a trip a few years ago where I did something similar.
I had gone to a 7 Habits course in October, and decided to take a trip up to the Georgia mountains as a bit of a retreat, and romantic get-a-way in January.
My Plan was to design a good HanDBase database system with with to implement the 7 habits, roles, goals, big rocks, the whole thing.
After 3 days I'd desgined an awesome system. Had 4 or 5 databases, all linked, it was a pure beauty of design genious.
The problem? It wasn't useable at all. The system was clumsey, sure I could track everything, but it took too many steps to do so, and the datbases got deleted once they were HotSync'd back at home.
Sometimes we all have to step back and look at how we're doing things. I personally would love to conduct a study to see if those using PDA's are any more effective than when they were using paper systems...I think the results would shock alot of people.

Well, I'd disagree with you there. They actually are quick solid for what they are, but they do not help one organize better.
My point was merely about how we can get sidetracked by our technology and actually wind up hurting our effectiveness in the end.
Be happy to have a 7 Habits Discussion with you in Off-Topic though.
I know the feeling werul. I just swithched to an NX and am not restoring half of what I had on my 615. It is a little refreshing:)

Didn't go as far as a hard reset.
But I went through all the docs and addresses and todo's and memo's (took the better part of an evening) and if I hadn't looked at it/them/those in last 5 days I blasted it. (address I gave a month)
But I'm curious about the "dust bunnines" someone made mention of.
Is a hard reset the only way to clean those out?

Thanks, I'll go checkout "leftovers" and see if I can find it.

Cool! Thanks for the Link.
I think SysTool (http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=96846820030131075222&prodID=43684) is better than LeftOvers. I have both, but I'll use SysTool first to check the "unknown" saved preferences, then go to LeftOvers to get the confirmation. The best thing to do is to check the creator IDs for the apps that you want to delete before deleting them. Then you'll know which orphaned files are the ones from the deleted apps. If you want to spend some money, Uninstall Hack or Uninstall Manager is even better.

Uninstall Manager only works for you folks with OS5:( . The rest of us have to settle with uninstall hack, which lacks some of the features.

Ya know, when I first get a new device, there's about a 2-week period when I'm going crazy: loading apps, reading tips and cheats, and learning what the manufactorer failed to say on the outside of the box. I scour forums for hints about the device's hidden abilities and clever man traps. I read app reviews, try software, and generally immerse myself in it.
Yep. A diary of my life the last 14 days. Then I remember: I have a life! And only a small part of it has little buttons
