(First of all, English is my second language and I hope my writings don't look odd.)

I reside in Canada currently and I am considering to buy a TJ-35. After reading this forum for a few days, I find the backlight issue is quite serious for this model. However, I really like the form and features (although admittedly not the best out there) of this nice-looking PDA. I am wondering:

(1) Does Sony Canada (The Sony Store) sells TJ-35 units that don't need recall for the backlight issues, now? (Or at least, sell TJ-35 units that have their backlight fixed before hitting the shelf.)

(2) Does the affected units only restricted to the S/N listed in an earlier posts (i.e., 3001086-3002025, 3002756-3002760, 3003176-3003180, 3003321-3027320, 3030141-3031687)? Or other S/N are affected as well?

(3) Do you think a 2 year warranty is worth paying for? (CAD 59.99 is quite expensive for a CAD 299.99 model -- although it's still cheaper than US price indeed. Hmm...)

(4) [For those Chinese/Cantonese Big5-HKSCS users] Should I get "PenPower", or "PalmDragon" (or some other brands) for Chinese input & display on TJ-35? Good Big5-HKSCS support would be an asset.

ClieSource is a very good forum and Thanks for any inputs/suggestions. :-)

I also live in Canada and...

1) I believe that's correct.
2) Only those ones.
3) I didn't get an extended warranty but by talk on this board it might be worth looking into.

I just purchased a Tj35 from "sonystyle", as of last week that is the only place to buy a Tj35 not affected by the backlight recall.

I purchased mine in december from newegg and mine isn't one afflicted with the backlight problem. Of course newegg doesn't seem to sell them anymore...

Thanks for your replies. Now I have the peace of mind to get one myself without having to worry about initial loss-of-use time.

As for (4) for Chinese users, I guess I'll have to find a Chinese Clie forum/board for answers (if I can locate one) :p thanks guys, u'r great.

For (4):

I have had no need to input Chinese so far, but I use CJKOS for viewing, which I believe supports some kind of input -- but I'm pretty sure it does not support Cantonese pinyin because if it does I would've known about it and been using it already. :)

I got mine at Sony Store and they offered me the extended warranty for half price. $30 for two years is quite worth it IMO. So you can also see if they can cut you some deals on that.
