Memory Stick problems with PEG-N760C

I have a 1-year old PEG-N760C. Just recently I cannot insert my 8-Mb Memory Stick into the card slot. The last time I had inserted a Memory Stick was about 3 days ago, when I used PG Pocket to show a bunch of photos stored on the card.

Now, when I try to insert the card, it immediately pops out and I get a error message saying "Handheld Error: The startup application for this card cannot be run."

Any suggestions? I already tried soft reset but that didn't help.
Everything else on the Clie works fine, including syncing.

To me this sounds like a hardware problem. The reaction of your Clie says to me that it knows a new stick has been inserted but as it can't access it, it can't run anything on it or scan it (for MS Autorun).

On my N770C I know it's possible to slide the stick in at a slight angle which means it doesn't line up with the connectors and seat itself nicely. Hate to ask a stupid question, but are you sliding the card in correctly? Do you feel any kind of click as the mechanism tries to hold the card in?
