I searched for this for a while, so don't think I'm being lazy...

Is there any way to increase the volume of movies on my clie?

I'm talking about either a clie utility (to make the volume on the clie louder for anything)

-or-

A way to make the volume go louder, via my computer, that does not require re-compressing the entire video (since I've got a slow comp, this takes a while)

It would be great if this works on .mqv files along with stuff like .avi and .mpeg

-Thanks

get virtual dub (google search)
open your video
select video and choose direct stream copy
then choose the audio stream
select full recompress
go to compression options for audio
choose microsoft ADPCM and click ok
then go to audio -> volume
raise it as high as you want it

palmer, of course you're lazy. you're NEVER not lazy. but you can increase volume using tMPGenc as well. You go settings, audio tab, use audio edit checkbox, audio edit settings button, change volume check box, enter a percent, press ok and you're good to go.
