PDA

View Full Version : How are you financing your new toy?

Hey folks,

Since a lot of Clie Source readers are plunking down about $800 for the NZ90, I was wondering: how are you paying for your new toy? I am particularly interested in hearing from folks who already have a perfectly useful PDA, but have given in to the temptation to "upgrade" to the NZ90 anyway.

Are you selling your existing PDA, perhaps with an online auction? Are you giving it away to a friend? Are you taking advantage of a maintenance plan / extended warranty? Or do you have enough money lying around that you are keeping the old PDA anyway? If you are using a maintenance plan, how does it work? (for example, what if your existing PDA is not damaged in any way?)

I suppose these questions would apply to upgrading to any another PDA, not just the NZ90, but the NZ90 is an interesting case because, well, it is so expensive! :) Thanks for your input!

luckilly I had a spare £1000 under my floorboards for emergencies like new toys being released. But I will sell my NR70V and my Palm 505.
How much do you guys think those are worth now?

I would check eBay for similar items and see what the average price is over the course of a week or so; you'll be able to get some sense of what people are willing to pay. And how much does the NZ cost in the UK? Hopefully not £1000...

Sold my T|T and it's SD card...added more cash and voila here it is...:)

I always line up buyers for my previous PDAs...people are always standing in line because they know I'll get the next new toy, discount the one I have 100$ over new (and they are always in new condition when I sell them)...works out well...:)

Gave my Nx to the sig. other. NZ is financed through cold hard cash. I get performance bonus every year at this time, and I usually upgrade all my toys.

I have two laptops that are about to his the market soon. Their replacments are on their way. ;)

I signed up for sonystyle's 180 days same as cash and purchased my nz90 that way. Like some of the other's, I receive a bonus every year which enables me to update my toys...

Considering that my bonus at 100% will equal approx. 45% of my annual gross after taxes, I tend to turn in 150% every day of the week.

That found money takes care of my tech fix for a good while (among other things) ;)

2 drops of water down the opening of my nx and i ran back to best buy crying. Best buy offered 10% coupon for 4 days this past weekend, which brought it down to $719.00. In addition comp usa is offering a free 128 mb memory stick with the nz. best buy also threw in the memory stick as well. it's wrong but they have millions (sony & best buy) i do miss my nx,but i will get use to this pretty brick.

Hmmm... perhaps I should have included a "sabotage" option in this poll. :) I just feel sorry for the poor NX that gave up its life to be replaced by the new guy... :( To paraphrase, Helen Lovejoy from The Simpsons, "WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CLIES!?!"

And a rhetorical question to think about: what kind of strange world do we live in where an expensive (and probably non-essential) gadget is intentionally damaged to offset the cost of a replacement high-end gadget... in just four months??? (I am assuming most folks got their NX in November)

Has anybody else taken such measures? If so, what?

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll so far (about 30 votes). In retrospect, I wanted the options to be mutually exclusive, but it is still informative. The votes are quite evenly distributed between those selling an existing PDA, "trading in" with a maintenance plan, or just plain plunking down the cash. And judging by the minimal response to the business expense option, it looks like most people can't convince their boss that a new PDA like the NZ is an essential part of doing business. :)

I guess in order to get either a NZ90 or the TG50 I will have to sell my RioVOLT SP250 MP3/CD Player, the old T415, some DVDs and video games. All I do know is I want a nice digital camera and a better PDA than the SJ30 I currently have. My SJ30 will be going to my Mom. She is the one right now with the T415.

Who voted that it was being paid for by their employer? Are you lucky, have a dumb, I mean generous, boss (not that you should complain), or are you self-employed (and you are the dumb, I mean generous, boss)?
