Hey kids,
Is there any reason why it would be bad to have my NX80 connected to my PC all day at work via the Data Import tool, and play my MP3's directly from my Clie with Windows Media Player? Could it stress the hardware in any way?
I'm pretty sure this is not the intended use of the Data Import tool, but by turning my Clie into a removable drive on my PC, it seems to work fine so far...
Thanks!!!

Why not just get a cheap cardreader? Officemax has them free after rebate for a single card reader.

Also off Ebay I picked up a 7 card reader (incl MS and MS Pro) for $16 + shipping. Works brilliantly.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. There are other solutions where I could accomplish playing my music at work. Getting a MS reader drive is certainly do'able.
My real question is whether it is bad for my 80NX if I do this... I'm pretty much on the go the whole day, and my schedule can change in a flash. If I suddenly have to leave the office, I think it would be a lot easier to grab my Clie and go, instead of dealing with the MS.
Any more thoughts on whether prolonged use of a Clie as a drive via Data Import is a bad thing? :D

I can't see why it would be a 'Bad Thing'? What are you afraid is being harmed? Since there is no moving parts inside the NX it isn't like you're wearing out it's HDD or anything..it's all solid state. Only thing I can think of off hand is keeping it charging all day long. That could possibly affect the battery..but who knows?

Nah ... only the Clie could get over-heated and explode :D ... j/k .. I dont think it would be a problem .. not to sure about battery though ( you havent mentioned if it is to be connected to the power source throught out) ... you battery could die-out sooner that normal...

the clie is functioning just as a card reader so if anyhting, turn off your LCD or close your clie and all should be well.

I think the charging all day won't be harmful. I've had my NX for almost a year now and it sits in the cradle at work all day. I just grab it up when I leave my desk. On the weekends I get pretty good battery life. Do a lot of ebook reading. I've read some conflicting stuff about the effects of charging habits on batteries though. I'm just going by experience...

Agree cliedad.
I have read alot on here about the battery thing and there seems to be two schools of thought regarding charging: some advise to completely discharge your Clie THEN put in the cradle, and the other school seems to say leave it in all the time. I am of the latter school. Although I don't leave it in there all day I do leave it charging in the cradle while I sit in front of my laptop (which usually means several hours), so it continually gets topped off. Since my NX80's charging light goes off when it's fully charged, I can only assume that it then switches to, and operates off of AC power like my laptop.
