Hello.
Newly registered member who is planning to buy the NZ-90 soon ... if his wife lets him:D !
I have been looking into the forums for a while and noted the threads and discussions over the CompactFlash drivers etc. However, I now note that SONY is releasing the new Memory Stick PRO which has a 1 GB capacity ... from what I ahave read so far, the NZ90 will accept these new Memory Sticks ... but the price is way high!
How much would a 1 GB compactflash card be?
... ( the list price for the 1 GB card is HK$6,800, which makes it about US$ 871 or GBP (sterling) 544).
Sort of like buying ANOTHER NX90 ... !!
In my mind the Memortystick makes the better option as it would allow me to use a wi-fi card at the same time as having huge memory available for use ... but certainly not at that price!
Anyway. I look forward to reading more from you lot ... you've already persuaded me to go for the Clie rather than a Pocket PC model ... !!
Cheers,
Nick
You won't regret owning a Clie! I wish Sony would include a multi-reader for all memory cards out there (just like the new Gateway laptop, i forgot the model which is being sold for a promotional price $999.99 after a rebate of $100.00). :D

It's hardly an arguement that memory is still expensive relative to other hardware. 128MB memory stick is selling at HK$490. So, 1GB will cost you HK$4900 or US$628. Putting speed and other memory qualities differences aside, there are rooms for price reduction in memory. For those who lives in Hong Kong, a Japanese vesion NZ90 IS selling at HK$5100 in Mongkok Computer Center. So, yes 1GB memory costs close to a NZ.

Let's face it Memory Stick (Standard, Duo, Select, Pro) is proprietary technology and that is part of the price; Sony makes them, Sony sells them, Sony sets the price.
As NR owner I will still go for the Pro if it is faster in my 717 camera; from my point of view more than 256 is not really necessary with Clié's - even up to NZ90 unless you do not tend to watch movie clips on your device. But with a 5 Megapixel camera or even a camcorder size AND speed might offer real value.
Prices should drop over time anyhow.
And a last one: just look on the memory cards for Playstation2. 8 MB for a ridiculous $30. With regards to that, all memory sticks are bargains ;-)

Actually, Sandisk makes Sony's memory sticks, and there are other company's that sell them, such as Lexar, I/O Data, and maybe some other smaller ones.

HK is still selling the 128MB MSs for $490? wow that's kinda expensive....
At one point we could grab those for $30 or so (after rebate)...
gotta wait till the 1Gig goes down in price... I don't think it will take too long... IMO, It should be in the 3-400 dollar range in a year or so...
any of you HK folks know where I can get a cheap phone in HK?
I'm be visiting next month and want to pick up a 6100 or 6610. Please email me if you have recommendations. Used or new is fine.
thanks

To ikkoku, 128MB MS is sold at only US$30 in Japan. So, it is much cheaper than the HK$490 or US$63 in HK. For 6100 or 6610, I recommend to compare price and buy the first hand from the mobile phone shop in Central or Causeway Bay where competition is really keen.

Watoke san, it was Ikkoku san suggested that MS at US$30. We in Hong Kong can only buy it at US$63.
Ikkoku san, may be you can bring twelve 128MB MS to Hong Kong and sell it here. Then, you will earn the money to buy a 6100.

Ikkoku san, I would suggest you to set the price at US$50 for 128MB MS to attract more buyers in Hong Kong. If you can lock in the purchase price and deliver the MS to Hong Kong in person, this grey market transaction is possible and profitable. My suggestion is to post a thread and get a feel on the demand at different price point. I would buy one or two at US$50, depending on my NZ usage. I am running DCS707 with 3 128MB MS.

Unfortunately, I'm traveling for business and will not have much time to coordinate.
Not sure if Amazon will ship to Asia, but Amazon is selling the 128 MB Lexar for 34.99 (after rebate) shipped.

If anyone in HK wants this deal, you can have it shipped to me. We can meet up in HK and I will give it to you. All a matter of trust of course.
